Very good food, fun old-school atmosphere, good music. Definitely worth a visit if you are staying nearby (minutes from AutoCamp for example). A must in Saugerties.

Thoroughly enjoyed our pit stop in Saugerties on the way home from a recent ski trip. Choose The Dutch for some late lunch and we were not disappointed. Lovely atmosphere and excellent service. The food was great. I enjoyed fantastic fish and chips with a...light, crispy batter and lovely flaky, white fish. My wife had an excellent chicken Caesar. We both washed then down with local beers from their solid drinks menu. Will definitely go again.More

Unfortunately, this review is without having tasted any of their food or beers. We tried a couple of nights to get into the restaurant.... the first night we tried as walk-in but were told that without a reservation they didn't have space for us (even...though the bar seating was nearly empty). The 2nd night we made a reservation but when got there they said that we'd have to wait for at least 10 minutes. My husband didn't like the attitude of the hostess and the way she spoke to us, so we decided to just cancel the reservation and go to another restaurant that we had gone a couple of nights before. They need to tell the hostess that they're the first impression of the restaurant.More

The Dutch Ale House is a nice restaurant in the center of the village. Both the building and the menu have had upgrades the last few years. We stopped for a mid-day lunch, and ordered the Harvest (turkey dinner) Sandwich and the House made Sausages....The food was very good and the portion sizes were good too. The wine was a little pricey, and the serving size was more of a tasting than a glass. The service was good. There is an extra fee for using credit cards, so cash may save you a couple dollars.More

I have been going to the Dutch for over 10 years. We are mug club members. Although we would love to support The New Dutch it is becoming harder and harder with all the changes. What keeps happening to the menu? Changes all the time....Once minute you can get a sandwich and the next week you have to order a meal. Not everyone wants to have a fancy NYC meal nor can they afford it. If you order a meal you can't substitute anything. Someone wanted fries instead of the sweet potatoes. They were told they needed to order fries as a side. REALLY? Back in the day you couldn't find a seat at the bar. Today there is no one there. Why do you need to change something that wasn't broken? I am not saying not to make changes but at least allow those who want a sandwich for dinner to get one. But then again how many people are going to pay $ 17.00 for a reuben when you can get one down the street for $ 12.50. We see mug club members all over Saugerties. Everyone says the same thing. They only want to cater to NYC clients so why go back. Unfortunately I am not sure I will return either. Very unfortunate since we have had some of the best times there. But when a restaurant only focuses on a small niche of customers the writing is on the wall. Maybe the locals are not the people they want as customers. I just wish they could find a happen medium so that all Dutch customers can be happy. I just wish they wouldMore

Dined at the Dutch with my family on Friday evening and will never return, it was awful! We started with a few of the appetizers which included the meat and cheese platter, what a joke — there was so little on the platter and the...presentation was plain ugly, the wings were not very good and the onion soup was also awful. The main entrees arrived and the burgers were fine but the special stuffed fish was so dry and the baked potato that was served as a side was so cold that the butter would not melt. We got our check, paid our bill and will never ever return.More

The food and prices are definitely more bistro-like than ale-house, but the food was very good. My sons enjoyed the sausage platter with 3 German and Dutch-style sausages to try. The French Onion soup was very good, and the Winter Salad was healthy and fresh....Good selection of local and craft beers to try as well.More

We went out to dinner on a very busy Friday evening to one of our favorite local hot the Dutch. We’re seated in a cozy table for two and the waiter helped me pick a fabulous porter to pair with my meal. I ordered one...of the items we came for: their famous truffle garlic & parmesan frites complete with parmesan cheese, truffle oil, roasted garlic aioli, balsamic vinegar, my date ordered his favorite sandwich and I ordered the sausage special. The beer is great, but the cook apparently forgot to salt the frites. We summon the waiter; he apologizes and takes the plate away. A few minutes later, he returns with the same plate of frites, with some salt shaken atop the pile of what is supposed to be absolutely deliciousness. Obviously, this is not what was needed; the frites are still flat and now getting cold. We are not ones to complain about our food. We personally feel embarrassed to do so and ‘pick’ at the still disappointing frites. When our meal arrives, the sandwich is burnt; the sausage is charred on the outside and lukewarm on the inside. Worst of all, the sauerkraut is uncooked and cold, complete with raw caraway seeds. The two of us struggled through half of our meal without saying anything to the waiter. At this point, the inedible meal is chalked up to a bad night in the kitchen on a super busy Friday eve. We maintain our silence – it is simply too embarrassing to send every plate back. At the end of the meal, the waiter arrives at the table; the following conversation occurs between us: W: “Can wrap up what is left?” Me: “No, thank you. It was quite disappointing actually” W: “ I’m sorry. What was wrong?” I tell him and that the entire meal was basically inedible, apologizing to him, telling him we know it is not his fault W: “What can I do you? Me: “You can take this food away and let us walk out the door.” W: “OK.“ He cleaned the table and walked away. I finished my beer; we discuss how embarrassing what had just transpired is and how horrible the meal was. We assume it’s just a bad night in the kitchen and we will be back again. I finish my beer, leave a $10 tip for the waiter; we put on her coats and walk out the door. The next thing we know, the waiter and manager are coming after us because we “skipped out on our bill”. This accusation not only completely absurd, but not true at all. Now in the street with them on the stairs of the restaurant, I try to explain what just transpired, focusing on the “OK” we received from the waiter. He did not reply that he needed to talk with his manager, he simply replied “’OK” when I stated he could take the food away and let us walk out the door. I was really trying to figure out how we misunderstood his “OK”. Immediately, the waiter raised his voice and accosted us as the manager tried to calm him down. Admittedly, the louder he got, the louder I got – especially as he continued to talk/yell over me. As he raised his voice, the manager tried to intervene; however, she apparently failed “customer 101” as she attempted to turn the entire situation – complete with us walking out on our bill because we should’ve said something if we were so unhappy. When we were unhappy with the frites for the second time, we’re simply not the type of people to complain about our meal – fault us for that if you may. We were simply embarrassed and just wanted to leave. As the conversation quickly turned into a yelling match between the waiter and myself, at one point we just walked away, shaking our heads about what just happened. We then leave this review on OpenTable: Horrible experience all-around. Burnt sandwich, unsalted fries, cold meat and a belligerent server...avoid this establishment at all costs. "Dallas" from the Dutch Ale House, responded in a private message to my friend with the following threat: Robert since you ran out on your check, even after we made every attempt to make you happy- I encourage you to take this review down. We would have comped you food, but escaping the restaurant before the manager could speak to you is not a fair response to an unpleasant dining experience. Otherwise I will respond publicly and give that information out, which will be visible any time you try to book at another restaurant. Feel free to contact me directly dallas@dutchalehouse.com.
