If you are looking for really good food and a taste of local flavor this is the place. Don't expect any kind of upscale experience or even particularly friendly service, that's not what they're about. But definitely a must try in Rochester.

You'll like the garbage plate, and Nick Tahou Hots if you understand what you're getting. As others have mentioned, it's a greasy spoon. You aren't going to get gourmet, fancy, or organic but you will get tasty food by some nice people. The garbage plate is frankly comfort food. The home fries and mac salad are a little on the... I have made trash plate for years and is a favorite of mine, so I decided to try it from the people who invented it. Wow, so bland and flavorless! 😝 The meat sauce was watery and mostly tasted like ground beef without seasoning. burger was bland and the cold noodle salad had no flavor! The red hots hot dogs... This is one of those places that locals say you gotta try, but that doesn't mean the food is delicious. I don't think they've spent a dime on this place in over a decade, although that could've be part of its charm and forgiven if the food were better. I wasn't too impressed with my burger garbage plate, which was... More

This is a staple of rochester. many places have tried to copy Nick Tahou but there is only one. When you come to Rochester you have to experience one for yourself. the atmosphere .so when you visit Rochester try the one the only original Nick Tahou's home of the garbage plate.

My son picked this place as he wanted to try a local place that had great food and lots of it. Locals told us to Nick Tahou's. We went to the place on Main Street downtown. The place is a throwback to the old diners. Prices for the their signature dish, the garbage plate, are very reasonable when you realize... More

I remember growing up in Rochester and my father taking me to Nick Tahou's. I was in town visiting and wanted to try it out again. My hubby ordered the double cheeseburger garbage plate. He ate the whole thing and enjoyed it. I order two plan hamburgers. They were well seasoned. My son enjoyed a white hot with fries. He... More

Nick Tahou’s is a legend in Rochester, not for the gourmet cuisine or the heady atmosphere. It is almost the exact opposite; you come here for the comfort food and the “jeans-and-undershirt” mood of the place. This weekend, we ate from their mobile van at the Lilac Festival, and it was as I enjoy it. Two “white hot” dogs and... More

Fantastic experience! And an experience is what going to Nick Tahou's is all about! It's not fine dining, by any means; however, it is dining that is in its own intriguing way very fine. Unless you've eaten at the downtown Rochester location at least about a half dozen times before, you must get a garbage plate. It's the signature dish... More

I have a long long association with Nick Tahous, from the time that the RIT campus was downtown on the West Main street area. When I went to RIT Nick Tahous was serving hots from a store front window with a small wooden ledge and hole cut into the window. This store front was across from our favorite bar the... More
