I enjoyed the scallops and the Italian light-oaked Chardonnay. The staff was friendly and service was prompt.

We had tickets to an RIT Men's hockey game at the Blue Cross arena and walked over here before for dinner. Our reservation was fpor 5:45 and we were seated right away. they were not too busy yet. They were filling up by the time...we left @ about 6:50pm. The main dining room is downstairs. The entrance and bar area are right off St. Paul street (Picture of front entrance and bar area are attached). It's not that inviting from the street, but inside is nice. Jessica did a great job helping us. For my wife, daughter, and I we had: - Tuna Tartare Napoleon delicious ( picture attached); - a blackened scallop special also delicious ( picture attached); Note they had three different scallop choices, but we picked the special; - a Beet Carpaccio with goat cheese that was excellent ( picture half eaten attached); - a Forrest mushroom risotto that was also very good ( picture attached, picture too dark unfortunately); - and a Vegetarian pizza that was also very good ( picture also half eaten attached). Overall a very nice dinner, wish we had more time to savor it all. Hopefully we'll be back on a future visit to Rochester.More

I don't understand all the raving reviews this place gets. I walked in at 5pm last monday. Was the only one at the bar. The bartender was friendly enough at first. I ordered a martini and asked about the mussels dish. I am very particular...on mussels, they are hard to cook in a way that keeps them plump and moist, especially when they are smaller size. I was assured that their mussels are top notch. They came out overcooked to a hard nut, so pretty much inedible. I told the bartender I was sending these back and ordering the crabcakes instead, and this is where things went downhill. I He seemed personally offended by this and said he had never had a complaint on the mussels before. Then, a party of 2 walked in that he seemed to know well and he proceeded to ignore me for the rest of the time I was there. My crabcakes came out burnt on top. At this point I was starving so I just ate them. Had to flag the bartender down just to get the bill. Overall, a really sour experience, won’t be back.More

Went for the tapas and enjoyed a variety of small plates that we shared. Great craft cocktails also. Service was very tentative and food came out quickly. Highly recommend this place.

Stopped at Tapas 177 for dinner before a show at the Abilene Lounge. We had five different small plates and a dessert, all of whichc combined for a festival of flavor. Definitely coming back.

It has been many years since we visited Tapas 177, don't know why it just fell off our radar. Last night we were celebrating a milestone birthday with a friend who is vegetarian. So after much searching of menus on line, we decided to go...back to Tapas. This was an EXCELLENT choice. We went on a Friday night and they offer valet parking for $5.00 or free parking out back. Parking problem solved. You enter through the bar, which was loud- but hey it's a bar on a Friday night. The dining room is down a flight of stairs or you can use the rear entrance off the parking lot (see website). The first thing you notice is the quiet, you can easily have a conversation with others at your table. The room is long, but narrow and on the dark side. Our server was Hannah. Pretty much the BEST waitress we have had anywhere in the world. She was attentive, knowledgeable, friendly and seemed to read our minds and was table-side when we needed anything. We chose to order off the small plate menu. We combined vegetarian and seafood options sharing 9 different dishes between 4 of us.This was plenty of food. Our favorites were the mussels which are a bit spicy but the broth is out of this world, Beet Carpaccio- full of flavor,Portobello Cream Cheese Wontons (ordered a second batch they were so good) and the guys LOVED the lamb chops (4 chops which were cooked to perfection). This restaurant has something for everyone. I recommend trying multiple small dishes to savor the amazing food. We will definitely return.More

Went with 4 others, 2 of whom are vegans. Great selection and the small plates were larger than I have had at any other restaurant. 4 of us shared 6 tapas small plates & had food left over. The vegan couple had tapas & entrees...and were well satisfied. Our server was excellent. Gracious & helpful. A lovely experience.More

My now-fiance took me here on our first date, so this place holds a special spot in our lives. We love to go at least once a year (hopefully a few times) to enjoy trying as many things on the menu as we can. The...food is always exceptional, and there are great cocktails and wines too. Do keep in mind that a lot of things are meant to share, so if that's not what you're up for then maybe choose a different spot. Highly recommend the tuna tartar - it's to die for!More

The drinks were okay the bartenders were very attentive did a great job. The dinner was mediocre. The bar and restaurant were so loud it was easier to hear your neighbors conversation then the folks you were with.

I didn't need one. Just walk on up there seemed to be plenty of seating.

We didn't need a reservation, but we were dining midweek. It could get busy at weekends; I don't know. I'd be inclined to give them a call to be on the safe side.
