What a shame for a French restaurant. The restaurant sells a regular sparking wine branded as Champagne. The server told us that if he was the owner he would not do it. The manager listened to me when I told him that he should not...sell sparkling wine as champagne, and remained silent. The fish and the creme brulee were good. The ambience is a typical French bistro.More

Superb dishes and even better service. Carefully sourced food beautifully prepared. It's been a while since I became excited during a meal in anticipation of the next course but that was my experience here. Plan on returning very soon.

My husband ordered the bisque which was very tasty and my son had the French Onion Soup which was delicious. My son and his fiancé had oysters that was delicious with a good broth. I had the scallops which I enjoyed (you get 4) and...my husband had a burger. Out meals were very good.More

We were immediately impressed with the ambiance and friendly, engaging staff. Throughout the meal the staff was attentive without being intrusive - which is becoming somewhat of a lost art. All members of our group were thrilled with their menu choices which we found creative...and delicious. Fantastic experience, well done.More

This restaurant was recommended to us by someone in the area and we were so pleased. The service and food were exceptional and the atmosphere is lovely. I would suggest strongly that anyone in the area make this a stop for dinner. If they have...the baked Camembert, definitely order it.More

Hostess was very rude and arrogant. Reminded us we had to be gone within a certain time because the table had another reservation coming in. Ok, but tell the waitress to be quicker! We had to call her over and ask her to get us...coffee. And she couldn't seem to remember who ordered what dish. Otherwise she was lovely. Food was good, and menu is imaginative, but lots of restaurants have good food these days. Also very noisy main dining room. Not located in a good part of Poughkeepsie either...Plenty of better restaurants in nicer areas of Poughkeepsie that are not as expensive!More

Wow what a find. Thanks to previous reviews I booked this for dinner. It is in “downtown” Poughkeepsie about a 7-8 minute drive from the chain hotels but worth every minute. The restaurant is charming set up just like a French brasserie. Our server, Deidre...was helpful with our selections. Two champagne flutes, two glasses of wine, a great salad and amazing octopus appetizer and two specials, the cod and monkfish and we did everything but lick our plates. This restaurant is just about destination worthy.More

What a terrific place! My wife thoroughly enjoyed the brook trout, with mashed potatoes and baby spinach. I had one of the specials for the night, pork tenderloin . Just the best! For dessert, my wife had her traditional favorite, creme brulee, and I tried...out the upside-down cake. What a delicious treat!More

Brasserie is the place to go in Poughkeepsie for a celebratory meal. We went to celebrate a graduation. Nice drinks menu and splendid and varied food menu. Mixed drinks were not quite up to stellar but everything else met and exceeded our high expectations. Our...entrees- steak au poivre, gnocchi, and brook trout -were delightful with excellent sides. Profiteroles and gelato were the perfect finish to a fine meal all around. Our server Mouro was energetic, engaging, and attentive.More

We had dinner here before going to a concert. This French style bistro is trendy & chic. We had reservations and we were seated immediately. Our server Mauro was excellent. He was attentive and gave us suggestions for drinks ( a non-alcoholic ginger elixir) that...we took him up on. Drinks were delicious and refreshing. Our entree was salmon and duck which were both cooked perfectly. It was a Friday night, even though it was a Friday night and Mauro got very busy, he never neglected our table. He was right on point with more bread, dessert etc. Can’t say enough good things about Mauro and the food at 292. Plan to return soon.More

Made a reservation, we where given a table in the middle of the dining room. I asked if we could have another table, as there where plenty others available, I was told “no” they where for people with reservations. I guess my reservation did not...count. Hostess was rude, I felt bad for the staff, as they seemed like they where being scolded in the kitchen, as you could hear the yelling from the dining room. Food was not what it’s use to be. Poughkeepsie has many wonderful restaurants, don’t waste your money here.More

We had a very nice dinner here before going to a concert at the Civic Center. I had the best duck breast I've ever had and my husband enjoyed his chicken dinner. He especially liked the pineapple upside down cake dessert. Would have been 5...stars but for the undertrained waitress who couldn't answer any of our questions about the menu items or wine list.More

As a longtime customer of chef/owner Charles Fells' Brasserie 292 and his previous restaurant The Artist's Palate, I feel it appropriate to report my latest experience at the Brasserie (and perhaps my last) on 11/9/22. . . . To thank us for our hospitality, guests...from Los Angeles (an NBC executive and his wife) wanted to take my wife and me out to dinner. Knowing them, their tastes, and sensibilities, I chose the Brasserie. Having other business in Poughkeepsie, we made an early reservation and arrived before 5:30 and were the only diners in the restaurant. We were given a table for four, which we found to be very confining. I suggested to our waitress that perhaps we would be more comfortable at the table for six, which was obviously empty. She wasn’t enthusiastic but said she would ask the manager. She returned—the manager said no. Then I suggested we could push the two, adjoining, single tables together, which appeared would afford us more room. Another trip to the manager—another no. After having drinks and ordering, our wives wanted to share a Caesar salad and asked the waitress to split it into two portions. She said no—that was not possible. . . . After dinner, paying the bill, and waiting for my friend’s wife to return from the ladies room, the waitress said we would have to leave, as there was a party of four at the bar who needed our table. In fact, there were at least 8 empty tables, as well as a banquette or two open. It was 7 PM on a nondescript Wednesday night—hardly a crush. You can imagine my embarrassment and disappointment—not only for me and our out-of-town guests, but also that I had specifically recommended the Brasserie. In all my dining experiences here and abroad, I have never been asked to leave a restaurant. I’m not sure what the Brasserie's policy is; however, I doubt that it includes asking people to leave—especially given the circumstances I described.. Still upset, a few hours later, I spoke with the manager, who I assume made the “No” decisions about the possible table changes and recounted our experience. He wasn’t very forthcoming and expressed lukewarm regret . He said he would speak to the owner Charles Fells but that never happened as I never heard back. It was only after numnerous phone calls to Mr. Fells and an email, that he finally answered my email -- two weeks after my dinner! He said he would call me back and to this day never has. Needless to say, while for the most part the food was appreciated, our Brasserie experience on that particular night left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. The disconnect between the food and the service/attitude/vibe is glaring, as also expressed in other reviews of Brasserie 292. I hope no one experiences the treatment at the Brasserie that I did and would caution future diners to consider alternative restaurants—for better food and a more courteous waitstaff and responsible ownership.More
