You see we were not able to visit. There are no vegetarian choices. It is indeed disappointing. We as a family have a variety of members who choose not eat meat or fish. There was nothing they could eat so we were forced to choose...another restaurant. Since I was choosing I was shocked when I was told it would mean members of our family could not attend the family gathering. Such a disappointment.More

I've read some of the reviews, and I don't know when these folks went, but I've gone several times and never had a bad meal or poor service. The venue is beautiful. It's quite breathtaking in the evening as the sun starts to set. The...food is delicious and served hot and with a smile. You can't please everyone, and some people will complain no matter what you do to please them. I worked in food service, and I know there will always be a handful of people who you just can't please. I'm glad I tried this restaurant. It's classy yet reasonably priced. And our bartender was so friendly and attentive. I wish I got his name. I'd request him if I ever had a wedding or shower there.More

Had the good luck to be seated outside on the water on a beautiful evening. Wait Staff was friendly and helpful. They served our large party in a timely manner. Food was decent.

I understand that it is located in a small town and the business went from a small venue to a much larger, fancier one. The setting is beautiful. Perfect when it is not freezing outside, truly pleasant, worth sitting out. Inside seating it is excellent...too. The service people are always friendly and helpful. The preparation of the food, however, is lacking. The chef is good, but whoever is in the kitchen may burn my lasagna-type of food and offer very uninteresting stewed tomatoes pretending to be soup. The experience makes me sad. We really need a good restaurant in Oswego and La Parrilla On the Water can become one with training of the kitchen personnel and attention from the chef. The bar does a good job in terms of beers--I do not drink wine or cocktails because as a rule everywhere they are ridiculously expensive. I hope for improvement.More

Great canalside location, generic feeling decor. Curious mix of food styles on the menu, American, Mexican, Italian. Food was average, service was good. Right next door to the marina we were staying at. Sign said live music three nights a week.

First, the location is lovely. The food was ok, not anything to write home about. The real issue was the attitude of the waitress and her helper. Both were rude to different members of the party. The entrees are supposed to come with either soup...or salad. When I ordered, I said "caesar salad" when asked about salad. She didn't inform us that the entrees only came with house salad, and that was not specified on the menu. So she charged extra for the salad. When I started to ask her why she didn't mention this when we ordered, she blew me off and walked away. Pretty deceptive practice in my opinion. Several other similar things happened with her. I tipped, but not nearly as much as I ordinarily would. All we wanted was a clarification, and all we got was a bad attitude.More

Being the temperatures were predicted to be lower this past Saturday, July 8, we made reservations at the La Parilla Restaurant, located just inside the Oswego Harbor, sitting nicely along the Oswego River. We requested to dine outside so we could listen to the sounds...of Johnny Luber, a local musical celebrity. Our server was friendly, helpful, cheerful, and looked as if she totally enjoyed her position. We ordered cocktails, which were served rather quickly. We wanted to share an order of Calamari, but alas, the first bad news of a rather lousy dining experience. "We're out of the Calamari". Why didn't they scratch it off the menu then? We both ordered the Creamy Tomato Basil Soup, which was delicious. Then, we placed our order. My wife ordered (I totally forget the name of the dish) Chicken thighs in sauce with couscous, and I ordered the Flat Iron Steak, medium rare. Since my first drink was served in a tall tumbler (Maker's Mark and Coke), the soda mixer totally drowned the flavor of one of my favorite Bourbons, I ordered another one, and requested it in a cocktail glass and not a tumbler. We waited......waited.....waited. Food came, yet no drinks. We asked our server if there was a problem with the bar tender. She just said he's a bit frazzled. Another 10 minutes passed and still no drinks. I personally went up to the outside bar and asked what the problem was, and all I got was a "Deer in the Headlights" kind of look. Since my wife's meal was made with "Chicken Thighs", we assumed being it is a dark meat, it would be tender and juicy. ALERT: This was made of breast meat, not a thigh at all, was dry, tough, and one part was so well done, it rivaled chicken jerky. My steak looked completely appetizing when it was served. ALERT: Outer appearances can be quite deceptive, and sadly, this was the case. The meat was cold, the plate was cold, and the steak was RAW in the middle, a far cry from Medium Rare. Since I have, in the past, dined on "Blue Steak", the rawness wouldn't have bothered me, but come on....Medium Rare is NOT RAW IN THE MIDDLE. It was full of gristle and very tough. Guess what??? AFTER we ate the less than school cafeteria grade dinners, our drinks finally arrived, served by the same clueless bartender with an apology. We didn't say a word. Slowly drank our coctails while enjoying the music and the aquatic scenery, we generously tipped our server (she had no control of the low quality meals) and left. Didn't sit at the bar for another drink, didn't order dessert, just plain left. If I were to rate the food, it would be a D- at best. The bar service, is there anything lower than an "F"? Will I be a repeat customer? That depends if there is a response for this post which will go on their Facebook Page and Trip Advisor. Until such time, and sadly again, you can't get a decent steak in Oswego (Until the Texas Roadhouse opens), We won't be returning any time soon. La Parilla, you are a shadow of what you once were at your previous location. The food quality has tanked, and I feel you weren't even slightly prepared to operate a larger facility. If you WANT a good steak in Oswego, I suggest you go to Scriba Meats, pick up a nice Porterhouse, and grill it yourself.More

Awful food. We travel a LOT and this was one of the worst. I ordered a chicken dish with rice instead of couscous, it came with a salad. My husband ordered soup and a wedge salad. Everything but the soup was drenched with a vinegary...tomato sauce. Waitress said it was chimichuree. My dinner was half eaten and no wedge salad so my husband had to ask for it! Never coming here again!!More

We went to La Parrilla for dinner with another couple last night and were very disappointed. We had reservations but definitely didn’t need them. When we arrived, the entire inside section was empty and only half of the tables outdoors were filled. We were seated...outdoors and the atmosphere was very nice. The hostess brought us all glasses of water right away and our waitress came and took our drink orders. She came back with our drinks and said that she’d take our appetizer orders, get them started, and be right back to take our meal orders. Before she left, we asked her to refill our water glasses as well. My wife ordered an iced tea and when it came out, it tasted horrible. Our appetizers came out before our waitress ever returned to take our meal orders. We got the chicharrones and latin waffle fries and both were good. When the waitress finally came back around to take our meal order, she completely forgot about refilling our waters, so we asked her again. We also told her about the iced tea tasting bad. She offered to replace it with a new one but my wife decided to just stick to the water instead. I ordered the cannelloni with the daily soup – chicken vegetable. My wife ordered the pollo asado with the side salad. She specifically asked for no onions and the waitress said that she’d request the roasted tomato pico for the pollo asado to be on the side since it had onions in it. One of our friends ordered the broccoli chicken risotto special and her husband ordered the chicken riggies with the daily soup and asked for no mushrooms. The waitress did eventually bring out a small water pitcher so that we could refill our own waters, but there was only enough water in it for one refill each. Staff brought out 3 of our meals and told our friend that his chicken riggies would just be a bit longer. My wife’s chicken was good but the couscous that it came with had onions all throughout it even though she’d requested no onions. Our friend’s risotto was very disappointing, with only 3 very small pieces of chicken and 3 small pieces of broccoli. It definitely wasn’t worth the $20 they charged for it. My cannelloni tasted good, but they were lukewarm. It was over 10 minutes after the 3 initial meals were brought out before our friend’s chicken riggies were brought out. He said that the riggies were good but the daily soup had mushrooms in it, which the waitress didn’t mention when he ordered his meal with no mushrooms. When our waitress finally came back to check on us, we told her about the onions in the couscous. She apologized and said that she’d see if she could get some without onions. She came back quite a while later and said that the couscous is premade and there’s no way to get any without onions. She said the kitchen could do some grilled zucchini as a replacement and my wife accepted. It took another 10-15 minutes for the zucchini to come out. They were very thick slabs that were barely seasoned and were tough to cut because they hadn’t been cooked long enough. At that point, we all decided that we’d had enough and just wanted to pay and leave, but our waitress was nowhere to be found again. We waited almost 10 minutes and still didn’t see her anywhere. One of us finally got up and walked into the indoor section and found her. She said that she’d be right out with our check. We waited almost another 10 minutes before she finally brought it out. To top it all off, they charged us for the iced tea even though we told her it was undrinkable. We didn’t want to wait any longer for her to fix the bill, so we just paid for it and left. Needless to say, we won’t be back.More

Third visit since La Parilla moved in to the former Alex’s On the Water location. Never disappointed. Great food, great price. Really much more affordable than Alex’s, and every bit as good. Drinks are about average, but reasonably priced. The restaurant was crowded, but service...was really good. Portions were large. Great desserts. This is going to be a really rocking place when the weather turns warm and you can sit outsideMore

Two forks and wine glass were REALLY dirty. Food was sub-par and gave three of four guests indigestion. Chicken on the bone was worse than rotisserie.. with poor seasoning, wine was warm, pasta with chicken was literally a few 1 cm chunks of chicken in...rigatoni for $22. We spent over $100 and all agreed it was not worth $20. Just sad.More

We had read great reviews of this place but it didn't quite live up to our expectations. My sense is that they are adjusting to being in a much larger location and serving more customers. The food was good but not memorable. On their website...they mention using fresh seasonal local ingredients but there wasn't any indication of that on the menu. In fact, they didn't seem very organized with menus (no cocktail menu and the server didn't really know much about the drinks they could serve). I wouldn't steer anyone away from this place. It's a fine place to get a meal. We were just expecting something more special and it felt closer to a chain restaurant with standard kinds of dinner options rather than a special dining experience.More

This restaurant is in a great location - right on the water - and beautifully decorated. Unfortunately, it's a book/cover thing. First, their drink menu was outdated and they were out of every IPA. They were out of some of their main dishes as well....We ordered the calamari and had to send it back because it had a fishy smell. The food we did keep was very average - we didn't finish it. It's really too bad because there's so much potential.More
