After reading various reviews of restaurants in Ammoudi Bay, we are apprehensive about eating there due to some people feeling overcharged. The fish is priced per kilo so just ask the waitress how big your fish will be to avoid any unpleasant surprises! We had a lovely lunch at Dimitris - 2 smaller fish dishes, fries and 500ml of house wine. It came to just under €70 which we were happy with! The location is stunning and after our strenuous walk down, the restaurant happily called us a taxi to take us home.

I visited Dmitris Taverna back in June 2021, and was initially blown away by the extensive menu and beautiful location. Our waitress (Dmitri’s wife) was really friendly and hospitable, and we had an excellent meal. The food was really delicious, and fairly reasonably priced, especially considering the quality of the food combined with the location. As a group of 3 students, we were trying to save money on a budget, and were pleasantly surprised when our lovely hosts offered us our lunch for free. This was a token of the brilliant service in general. We were thrilled to then be taken on a special boat tour all around the island of Santorini, courtesy of Dmitri’s sailing company, which I would also highly recommend to prospective customers. We had a wonderful tour guide who showed us all the key sights, and provided snorkels, beer, and chocolate!! Overall, it was an incredible day, thanks to the amazing hospitality we received. Dimitri and his wife are immensely kind and generous people, and I couldn’t praise their service more to anyone considering a visit to their beautiful taverna. 10/10! Thank you for making our visit so special ❤️

We had a couple dinner in the tavern and we were positively surprised by the experience. The food was really the best, freshly caught fish which you can choose directly in the kitchen. The tables are really a feet away from the sea and the atmosphere is incredibly magical. Not 5/5 since our table was a bit dark and when we reserved we were not told that the restaurant could be reached through a road (therefore we had to walk down nearly 250 steps, which was particularly difficult after dinner!) The tavern is slightly expensive, but definitely worth for what you get (other places in Oia are much more costly and the fish quality is worse).

I went here with my wife because it seemed to be the most quaint out of all the restaurants in Ammoudi. The views are great and we were seated right on the waterfront ( any closer and you would be in the water). Unfortunately I cannot say that the food was at the same level. The grilled octopus that we ordered was dry and overcooked. Unfortunately the mussels that we ordered were covered in an overpowering sauce that impeded you from tasting them. In general my wife and I both felt that the food was sub par compared to many other restaurants in Santorini and that the prices were to high for the quality of food that we were served.

We were warned by the owner of our accommodation that there might be no table left at Dimitrs but decided to give it a go anyway. We were very happy the did have a table for our family. We really enjoyed the beautiful sunset and our diner. We had some starters (taramosalata/tzatziki/olives) that were nice. The seabass we enjoyed as a main was really lovely. We don't recognize the comments about the waiters. They were happy to advice us which fish would suit our needs and went out of their ways to help create a meal for our picky daughter. We had a great time. Yes, it is (too) expensive, like everywhere on Santorini. But it's way better here (price/quality/crowds) than up the stairs in crazy-over-touristed Oia.

I can’t recall having a better meal. Get a reservation if you want to eat near sunset hours (view is spectacular). I highly recommend the seafood linguine and tomato fritters. A little more pricey than some places in Greece, but if you’re coming from the States you’ll feel like you got an incredible bargain for the meal, view, and experience.

I just had a swim at Amoudi and I wanted a cold beer before I order some food. I asked them if I could get a table to just sit and relax, having in mind that all tables were empty and the reservations would come later on. As a Greek I was treated in an offhand manner, the attitude of the person in charge was inhospitable to say the least. “We can not offer you a table, even at the back because we have reservations in 3 hours time”. That’s unacceptable since I was just waiting for my boyfriend and just wanted a quick beer. If they couldn’t offer me a table for later I would understand since Santorini is geared up for non Greek tourists but this was rude and unprofessional. I then sat at a tavern named Katina, which was the absolute opposite, very hospitable and gave me everything I wanted. Bare in mind they had reservations too.

Management Response: We are very sorry to hear you did not have a positive experience when you stopped by. We understand it seems unfair to block empty tables for incoming reservations, and it’s an issue we try our best to deal with diplomatically, but apparently you didn’t feel that way and for this we apologize. Nevertheless, we are happy you were able to enjoy the ambiance of Ammoudi Bay at an alternate venue.

Our hotel recommended this fish restaurant for our first night in Santorini and it was so good we went back on our last night. Its busy, however this did not compromise the quality of the food or service (one waiter was a bit grumpy upstairs but we soon talked him round!) The groupa just melts in your mouth, its cooked to perfection. Vegetarians are also catered for. Defiantly worth a visit

This was our third visit and it gets better each time. We ate on the expansion of the outdoor seating on a rocky promontory and it was a very beautiful setting, especially for the sunset. We had delicious appetizers, delicious fish and were able to linger and enjoy our wine. We never felt rushed to turn over the table and thoroughly enjoyed our entire dinner experience. The restaurant has the best location in Ammoudi and if you are staying in Oia then getting down to Ammoudi is a very nice change of scenery. The hike down from Oia is fun but wear very comfortable shoes.

Amoudi Bay takes a bit of effort, either driving down about 5 minutes from Oía or traversing what would be a challenging walk back on a walking path. Upon arrival, the little bay if beautiful… hard to beat a sunset dinner here. There are about 5 restaurants, so it takes a bit of attention to ensure you are at the right one (they all seem to have Amoudi Bay in their name)… Dimitris is at the far end, so just keep walking past the others. Seating is on the water, literally on the edge of a picture perfect clear blue sea below. There are a few tables further back if you want some protection from the wind or the water, albeit shallow, makes you nervous. The menu is exactly what you’d expect, fish and seafood. While many reviews here mention high prices, everything is clearly priced on the menu. The waiter even brought me into the kitchen area to show me all of the fish… and was extraordinarily knowledgable about the sources, fresh vs farmed, and even what was frozen due to seasonality. The wine list was expectedly strong on Santorini's wonderful white wines. Markups were a bit heavy at 3x, but we've seen worse on the island. The grilled octopus starter was good, the fried calamari starter was an example of what it should taste like, but usually doesn’t around the world. We also had some pitas with taramosalata spread, clearly made in house. Our main course was a grilled scorpion fish. It was sadly a bit overcooked, which may be due to a heavy presence of North American visitors who can be a bit queasy at the site of properly translucent fish. The accompanying rice and fried potatoes were okay, but not meant to be the star of the show. Walking back past the other restaurants, we did wonder whether there could really be much difference among them - some were a bit fancier while Dimitris quite rustic, but we suspect the food to be similar. The service was extremely friendly and helpful, love that! And the location at the end of the mini harbour means you won’t be bothered by people walking through. Even though it’s a bit of a touristy zoo down at Amoudi Bay (like the rest of the island), it’s a nice sunset meal.

There are so many restaurants in Santorini and i made a mistake choosing the restaurant where the racist Albanians work as waiters. Obviously tourists are not welcomed at this tavern but for the money we spend we can choose any other restaurant for dining. If you want to be served as you are getting the food for free, come to this restaurant.

Ammoudi bay is gorgeous and there are a few restaurants that sit on the bay including Dimitris Ammoudi. Our waitress was originally from Canada and was very knowledgeable, she took us in the back to pick out our fish. We ordered hummus and pita, fried saganaki and mussels with spicy tomato sauce without cheese for appetizers. For our main, we shared a 2.6 kilo black grouper with a side of linguini and mixed grilled vegetables. The fish was cooked nicely, but lacking in overall flavor. The prices are quite high and while the views are unbeatable, the service can be slow.

We have visited this restaurant today to have some drinks because of the location. After we let the female staff know that we only wanted drinks and they served us, they treated us like trash, making faces and being busy ignoring us while there were only approx 3 tables to deal with. After asking for the bill, they said we can’t pay by card an 8-euro amount! Suspicious right?! We said fine and put a 10 euro bill on the table, after which we had to wait for 20 mins while being completely ignored by the two nice ladies. After all, we were saved by a gentleman staff member who came over and was extremely nice to us! Otherwise we would still be sitting there. Shame on you ladies for treating us so badly! Definitely not going back. 10/1

Management Response: We are saddened to hear you feel you were mistreated. We sincerely apologize for any miscommunication or language barrier that perhaps led to this discomfort and assure you that no ill will was intentional towards you. We are also sorry if we didn’t spend enough time with you but we assumed you just wanted to relax with your drinks and didn’t realize you needed additional attention. We were always nearby but since you were only having drinks we didn’t want to hover and make you feel you couldn’t linger as long as you like, as we hate to rush anyone out. We also didn’t mean to demand cash payment, we only requested if you had cash for such a small amount it would be appreciated, of course we would’ve accepted your credit card if we were aware this was an issue for you. If you are still on the island or visiting again soon, please be our guests for a round of complimentary drinks as our way of saying we appreciate your business and we hope you will give us another try!

Recommended by 2 different hotels (!!) we went to Dimitris twice. Each time we had fresh fish and seafood and enjoyed food and wine at a perfect location. The staff is very friendly. As it is a fish and seafood restaurant the meat selection comes down to pork chops. As our daughter cannot eat fish she would have appreciated a greater variety. A little away from the sunset crowds in Oia located at Ammoudi port it is highly recommended to make and early reservation and enjoy the sunset in the restaurant and not in Oia itself.

Dimitris Ammoudis Taverna is the last restaurant on the strip right at the seafront, giving it a quieter somewhat more intimate feel compared to its next door neighbors. We thoroughly enjoyed our fresh seafood specialities and the delicious greek wine and also enjoyed the friendly service. As known for Santorini are the prices rather ambitious, but that is an island thing, not an Ammoudi Tavern exception. Definitely a desirable location for a romantic location. Come before sundown - it will be worth it!
