This is a lovely garden restaurant in Oia (so not a place to see the sunset). This is a place to go for the food and the warm, family-like service, particularly from the owner who was amazing. We asked if he would curate our meals...and he took our menus away and brought us the most wonderful fish, lamb, octopus, and other items. The wine was terrific. This was our most memorable meal in all of Greece and just a wonderful experience. I give this my highest possible rating. (Two couples, adults.)More

Great food and good wine, cosy family style dining. A warm ambiance set by candlelight and music. The service friendly, informative and attentive. The building was built in 1846 and was the first pharmacy on Santorini. We loved it and fined here twice.

The quality of the food, and the OUTSTANDING front of house service is second to none. The atmosphere in the tree lined courtyard is amazing and if you are lucky enough to be there when the folk music is being played you will not be...disappointed. The fried saganaki and mest balls are a great starter combo (we shared) 😉 and the lamb is a devine main course. 100% recommded.More

Dining at Candouni is an amazing experience. We have dined here multiple times over the years and every time going back is like going back to family. The owners truly treat you like family. The food is fantastic. The atmosphere has to be experienced. Make...sure you visit on one of the traditional music nights. Thank you so much for bringing us into your home.More

If I had to defend this restaurant, I would say that the owner is “very particular about which guests he serves.” We have been staying in Oia a few days just a couple doors down from Candouni and I had always been charmed by the...live music, so after dinner my wife and I stepped inside for a coffee and a glass of wine. We assumed that a place with the word “bar” on the sign would serve drinks. We sat down at one of the many empty tables and the owner quickly came to our table asking if we were eating food. When we said no, he rushed us out saying “it’s a restaurant and when people order drinks it gets out of hand but here’s the card if we want to come back and order food”. We left quietly but heard other guests whispering that it was strange too. I’m just disappointed in the gap between the nice experience I was expecting and the rather rude (somewhat snobby) treatment we received. Just a small thing but I suggest maybe removing the word “bar” from the sign, in the hopes that other people can avoid being as disappointed as I was.More

The food here was good and there is so much variety. What made the evening memorable was the live music and the ambiance. The restaurant is under a tree canopy with candlelight throughout the restaurant. The service was… off. After reading some of these reviews...about the chef owner, we had a similar experience. Keep your menu questions to yourself :) However we enjoyed a nice evening with good food and lovely ambiance. A reservation seems to be necessary.More

The experience is one of a kind. Highly recommend! The food is incredible that we went two nights in a row. Not only is the food amazing, the environment is like being with family. It is slower paced which we loved. Didn’t feel rushed. The...owner is your host waiter and sommelier. He was so personable. It was the best meals we had in santorini!More

Great food off the beaten path of Oia. The owner was kind, funny, and passionate about his food. Get the pickled octopus and baklava!

My husband and I were in Santorini for a few days prior to my birthday. We walked by this restaurant a couple of times and I mentioned that this restaurant is where I wanted to have my birthday dinner. There is a guitar player at...the entrance and it seemed so quaint and lovely. On my birthday, we go for dinner and from the time we sat down the host seemed to have a chip on his shoulder. After a few minutes reviewing the menu, he came back to take our order. I had questions about the menu and he was offended. He was trying to push an appetizer on us saying his family made the dish this way for generations and when I told him I didn't want that as an appetizer, he rolled his eyes and had no more investment in us as paying customers. I told him that I'll order what i want to eat and not what he wants me to eat. As for the the food, it's good, but nothing to rave about. The wine is way too expensive compared to the other restaurants on Santorini. Definitely marked up. If I would have known this would be our experience, I would have chosen a different place to have my milestone birthday. The saving grace was the live music. Shame on this host. He needs better hospitality skillsMore

It was our first night in santorini and it was amazing, we had dinner under the candle lights to some live greek music, it was super romantic. Our favorite were the shrimps, lamb chops and potato pure, just amazing! The waiters were super nice and...attentive even tho the restaurant was packed and they were just 2. We got to see the owners dog walking around and greeting everyone which was so cute. Such a great place I don’t think other places will be able to top it. If you come to santorini do yourself a favor and book a table here because they fill up very fast!More

The food was lovely, we had dips and fresh fish and lamb. We tried the pomegranate raki. The staff was friendly and recommended the drinks and food. The food tasted really nice and were told that it’s authentic Greek home cooked food. There was live music...in the restaurant and the vibe was beautiful. Would definitely recommend to visit this place.More

My husband and I just had a magical dinner at Candouni. The owner (also only waiter, Maitre d’, and sommelier) is incredibly passionate about his restaurant and food! While this may make service not flow as smoothly as you like it is so worth any...wait you experience ( which quite honestly wasn’t as long as some reviews may infer). We also had the most amazing guitarists playing live Greek music to add to the atmosphere. This is a family style restaurant and truly made us feel special! Thank you!More
