I cannot say enough great things about Sunny’s restaurant. We were treated like VIP with the chef personally checking in and chatting with us. EVERYTHING was yummy...plantains, jerk tacos, cornbread muffins. I will definitely visit again!

We were welcomed personally by Alvin and he set the tone. The food was excellent, the service wonderful and the live music topped off a perfect evening.

We have been to this restaurant a load of times. One of the things that keeps us going back is the owner, who is always visible, greeting guests, checking in, and ensuring things are on track. Another benefit is the live jazz that can be...heard on weekends at night and for Sunday brunch. And, of course, the food. Everything is prepared with appropriate amounts of flavor and cooked perfectly. We have always had a great meal and a great experience at Alvin's. In fact, whenever we have friends in town, we take them there. And don't leave without trying the rum punch!More

Wonderful food, setting, service and music. A perfect Sunday brunch on a rainy afternoon. Everything we tried was delicious - every bite was a burst of flavors. The waitstaff was professional, friendly, and seemed to love what they do. Their attention to details (like placing...your linen napkin on your lap) was a nice touch in this sophisticated setting yet it was a relaxed environment to enjoy the music. We look forward to going back to try the dinner menu.More

The doors open to a spacious bar that is separate from the dining rooms in Alvin and Friends. The owner, Alvin Clayton, is a superb host greeting familiar faces and warmly welcoming new friends. The background jazz music is just loud enough to set a...nice tone without disturbing table conversations. The young staff is trained and experienced offering a vibrant introduction to southern menu items and explaining any dishes unknown to northeastern patrons. The fried chicken is a portion that leaves enough for lunch the next day and the collard greens are cooked as if a Southern mom had directed the kitchen's chef. The seafood creole pasta has a slight, but not overpowering kick. Fresh Atlantic Salmon is broiled by cooks who know how to serve fish just right. Desserts are tempting, but remember to leave room. Parking on street or in lot across from restaurant. The staff ensures you have all you need and promptly. Enjoy for special occasions or a fun night out.More

I cannot say enough great things about Alvin and Friends - from owner Alvin Clayton's friendly presence in greeting every table, to the terrific live jazz music during Sunday brunch, to the delicious Caribbean/Southern cuisine. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our brunch, and very...much plan to visit again. This is hands down the best restaurant in New Rochelle.More

I visited this restaurant with my young son before his concert at the Library across the street. I do not live in New Rochelle so didn't know where to grab a bite and this was convenient. I agree that the staff is friendly and welcoming....However, I felt this restaurant's ambiance left something to be desired. Although I absolutely loved that local artists are featured on the walls here, the chintzy seating seemed old and dirty. The sun windows were visibly filthy and had grating over them which really removed from the aesthetics of the place. In addition, as there was no jazz band yet, the music they were playing was out of place. I can see how a live jazz band could make this restaurant better. The food was way overpriced in my opinion and the food quality was lacking. I ordered my son a personal pizza for $12; it was very small for that price as well as smelling and tasting like a frozen pizza I can buy for far less at the grocery store. I ordered an appetizer of salmon balls and they were simply not appetizing although i did like the sauce. Alvin popped by our table and he was very nice. The bottom line for me: I will not be coming back here as I think the quality and price are not in line and the decor needs an overhaul.More

This is a very sophisticated place with a lot of good things going for it. The host is gracious, the food is very good, and sometimes there is excellent live jazz in the front room. Only complaint is the cost for dinner can be a...little high. Overall it is a great experience and you feel like you are in a special place.More

Treated our son's mother-in-law to lunch as she visited from Connecticut for the day. Alvin and Friends was conveniently open before noon and we could get reservations before most the of the other restaurants on a Sunday. There is a public parking garage right next...door with no fee on Sundays and holidays. As it was wintertime, we could not tell if there would be outdoor seating but it appeared that the sidewalk was wide enough to accommodate chairs and tables--otherwise the outside view is not too scenic. However, the indoor facility was spacious with a high ceiling and decoratively simple. One is greeted by a musical ensemble seated by the large window upon entering for Sunday brunch and the bar is across from the entrance. The main dining area is broken up by ceiling-high dividers and there are works of art along the walls that emphasize the restaurant's southern roots. If you wait long enough you do in fact get to meet Alvin; he is a greeter par excellence and maintains the flow of this establishment. David was our server and took excellent care of us. He helped me choose between two brunch menu choices and I was quite satisfied with my dish--the Chef's Favorite consisting of sauteed catfish, grits, scrambled eggs and collard greens. Our table of three seemed satisfied with their plates; minor concerns were waffles that were less than warm and my catfish which had a thick layer of breading. That aside, we were glad we had the opportunity to visit Alvin and Friends at this space--we had previously dined at their other space also located in New Rochelle and this is a nice step up. We look forward to visiting again and trying some of the other appetizing dishes.More

A Jazz brunch with great southern style cuisine and service beyond your expectations. All servers and wait staff were pleasant and accommodating. I highly recommend and know we will be back..
