A bit off the beaten path but well worth the stop. We had a great lunch. I had bangers and mash and my wife had lamb stew. Very friendly waiter and well informed. The atmosphere is very charming.

Met by the owner upon our arrival. The ambience was great. Historic, warm and inviting! The food was authentic and delicious. No regrets. May go back again later this week for lunch!

We were seated right away. Sat by the warm fire. Beverages were tasty. Orders were taken and the food was served promptly. And was delicious. Only regret... no room for dessert.

From the outside in the daylight, the place didn't look like much as I walked up. Inside, it was an inviting home environment with multiple rooms for eating. The Guinness beer was a great start with the creamy leak soup. The Reuben was recommended and...didn't disappoint. The crab cake was all crab meat, no filler. We tried a house made dessert and would order again. Overall, this Irish themed restaurant was more than I expected, and the extensive menu, with items you won't find elsewhere, will draw me back.More

Intrigued by a lot of 5 star reviews about this place and after looking at the photo gallery emphasizing their well maintained and tastefully decored interior rooms with gardens accented the outdoors we decided we need to see this place. In spite of a 1...1/2hr drive up and back we sensed something special was instore for us. As you approach Huguenot in the midst of a delightful forested area our excitement started to grow. The grounds provide for beautiful backdrops to their outdoor seating, both on their patios as well as on the lawn and there is plenty of parking space, The building itsself is pleasing to the eye so we entered the main door with our expectations for that something 'special' peaking. Reservations here are a must and they were immediately seating us. They immediately took out water and wine orders and we were shortly introduced to our serve, Gerrard, Gerard was exxceptionally attentive, intelligent, and laughrf at all my jokes. What else could one ask of a server. We started with sharing the Green Curry Mussels in a creamy sauce. WOW! ABsolutely delish with a subtle kick and had plenty for two to share. I ordered the Duck Breast while my wirfe ordered the Wild Mushroom Primavera with 3 types of mushrooms. WOW (this is my 3rd Wow in this review). The mushroom dish was amazing, whoever, the duck was so fatty that I had to return th dish and opted for the Braised Beef (their signature dish). Immediately I felt desppndent and thought how unfortunate this was, possibly ruiining our wonderful eperience thus far. However, no sooner than taking a short sip of my wine, Gerard is placing my new dinner of Braised Beef onto the table! WOW (that's 4 now with the title included). There was literally 3 min's from rejecting my plate to getting a new one. Normally, a bad dish like this duck would have warranted dropping 1 star or WOW from the review, but the response was so impressive I couldn't do it. I'm sure it was a rare "oooops" and that is doesn't at all reflect on their reputation so congrats guys. You recovred admirably. During the meal we were brouight a backet of bread. Irish Soda bread sliced and slightly warm. Now usually I find Irish Soda bread tough to swallow as most places make them dry and tasteless but as soon as we bit into one, we were sold. WOW. Never had anything that good in terms of Soda bread. If I understood Gerard correctly they bake their own. So now, having reached my max of 5 WOWS I recommend to anyone in the tri-state area, come...you will be rewarded by a great menu, great service, and a soothing location.More

Beautiful old house built in 1700’s offering dining in their pub, dining room, or patio. My wife and I chose dining on the patio. Our server, Ronnell , was excellent. I usually don’t order beef when dining but after reading all of the rave reviews...of the braised ribs, I had to try it for myself. It was just what everyone raved about. My wife ordered the duck breast and said it was the best she’s ever had. We topped it all off with shared scrumptious apple pie and a cappuccino and decaf coffee. We would definitely dine here again if in the area. It’s well worth it.More

We had a dinner at Garvins thanks to a recommendation from the owner of the B&B we were staying at. Garvins is a must visit when staying in New Paltz. We ate in the Pub and thought we were actually dining in a pub in...Ireland. The owner (Garvin himself) checked in on us and was fun to chat with and very personable. I had the short ribs and they were the best I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to come to New Paltz again just to eat at Garvins!!More

We were 2 couples and all were extremely happy with our meals and the service. One had the potato and leek soup and she loved it. I had the scallops and they were out of this world along with the risotto. My husband and another...person had the braised ribs and they were delicious. The 4th person had the squash ravioli and she said she liked it better than cheese ravioli.More

We were visiting family in the Hudson Valley and we arranged to go out to dinner with my wife’s sister and husband. Looking to have both a great meal and a wonderful experience, we returned to our favorite spot in the area, Garvan’s. Upon arriving...with reservations, we were quickly seated in the dining room and pleasantly greeted by our server, McConor. We started with drinks which included pints of Guinness and an Old Fashioned. We tried the beet carpaccio, chowder and leek-potato soups to start. As usual, excellent. My wife and I selected our favorite dinner entree, the short ribs, and it became an order of four. Although there are MANY great dinners on the menu, the short ribs are extraordinary and unmatched any other place we have dined. We closed our our dinners with some deserts and cappuccinos (some took unfinished ribs for home) and sat and discussed that Garvan’s never disappoints. Having made several family trips to Ireland which involved three-week holidays visiting multiple towns and cities, I have to say Garvan’s is a exceptional touch of Ireland here in the States. Thanks again to Garvan and his crew.More

This is a spot with a decidedly Irish flavor for a rollicking good dinner. It has a substantial menu, a good bar, and genuine hospitality. Food was plentiful and tasty if not spectacular. We would go back in a heartbeat.

4.5 rounding up to 5. The food was incredible. Even my 10 year old loved the stuffed mushrooms. They were delicious. We loved the burrata salad. Don’t miss the short ribs! I subbed the Brussels for green beans. I think because we had kids, we...were seated on the third floor, which certainly didn’t have the charm of the first or patio seating. I would request a lower room table if we came back. Our server was great, but the food was slow. Our appetitizer was well completed before our food came way too long later. The desserts were stars! Crème brule and Guinness chocolate cake were sensational. The restaurant is so charming and unique. We loved the beautiful gardens. If you are in town, don’t miss it!More

By chance we visited Garvan's for dinner in both April and May. We were as pleased on both visits as we have been with each of our prior visits. I usually gravitate to the meat dishes, my partner to the fish. And I often choose...a dish with Irish roots. The service is generally excellent and with a touch of class. The pacing of dinner (timing of food delivery and dish removal) is perfect. The owner generally visits each table for a word, a nice touch. Garvan's continues to be one of our favorites.More
