We dined at Garvan’s today on a whim. We stopped in New Paltz while road tripping and looking for a nice place to stop and eat. Garvan’s was well above our expectations and they had exceptional service. The people were so welcoming, so kind, and...the food was delicious! We highly recommend to anyone driving through New Paltz! The closest I’ve felt to Ireland since traveling there!!More

For the uninitiated, the words Irish and good food may sound oxymoronic. Yet, I find that food from Ireland is not only at par with the best Europe has to offer, but also has a personality all its own producing excellent lamb and fish dishes...as well as extraordinary versions a chowders and stews. Having traveled extensively through that beautiful country, I was pleasantly surprised by Garvan's offerings. Let's start with the good; the owner is Irish and the atmosphere, with a setting in an old Mid-Hudson farm house truly makes you feel you are in the countryside across the pond. Try the clam chowder, hearty and creamy, and follow that with a Guinness infused Irish Stew....your taste buds will have a party. Finish it off with another Guinness infused dish, this time in the form of a creme brulee....simply outstanding. I strongly suggest you accompany the meal with a Guinness or two. This magnificent brew is not a beer, it's the soul of Irish culture and an important part of the Irish experience. I you like seafood, I would highly recommend the fish and chips. You get two generous pieces of wonderfully battered fish and the best fries this side of the Atlantic. I thought they were twice fried, but it turns out they are made with truffle oil and parmesan cheese.....not to be missed. Can't wait to go back to try the bangers and mash. Now for the bad....oh wait, there is no bad. Service is professional, prompt and friendly, and prices will not scare your wallet. Garvan's is definitely a keeper.More

We dined at Garvan’s last weekend and loved it. We enjoyed it so much that we returned the next night. Garvan greeted us personally and went above and beyond to make our anniversary weekend so wonderful. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was...very good. We really appreciated the personalized and extra special treatment. The restaurant is cozy and welcoming. We got to sit at a lovely table by the fireplace. Everything was exceptional. We would highly recommend Garvan’s for sure!More

From the moment we walked in we were greeted warmly and and the waitress was attentive. She was patient with our table as we were very talkative among each other and kept forgetting to decide on a food choice. Scallops and stuffed mushroom appetizers were...tasty and generous. Short rib was to die for! I highly recommend. Pricing is a bit high but would still go back.More

We came here for dinner based on other reviews and the recommendation of the owner of the bed and breakfast we stayed at and we were glad we did. Garvan greets his guests at the door and is very personable. We sat outside due to...COVID. They have done a nice job out back and have made it very pretty. There is nice live music on Saturday nights. Be advised that if you sit at the tables on the grass dress warm as there are no heaters. If you can get a table on the screened porch that is the place to eat. There are large heaters next to each table and it was quite comfortable. The menu is interesting and the food was delicious. Make sure you have the scallops over risotto either as an appetizer or main course!More

Glad we decided to try this restaurant. We had a great dinner here and friendly service. My husband raved about the braised short ribs and I had the butternut squash raviolis and shrimp and that was delicious, too. We would definitely return next time we...are in the area.More

We were traveling further west into the catskills and struck an appetite along the way. We found this place whilst driving through New Paltz and are we glad we found it. It was very Covid safe and cleanly. We felt so cozy and service was...very attentive. The menu was as if we were dining at a pub in Ireland. It’s difficult to find such wholesome european gastropubs up here so we were very impressed. We were so delighted by the menu and restaurant that we came by again the very next day!More

Yes. Children would be welcomed. I don't recall every noticing a child's menu. I have never seen children in the area near the bad, but I have seen families in the ante-rooms
