The kitchen is severely understaffed. Took 1.5 hours to get two grilled chicken sandwiches. The server refilled our sodas while we waited without being asked and that was great. The service is great and the food, once it came was very good. I would wait...until the kitchen is better staffed before going back but when it is, I will go back.More

I was fortunate enough to get two keeper Black Sea Bass on a party boat trip. I asked the crew where on Montauk one could have a catch cooked up. They suggested Star Island Grill unanimously. Boy, were they right! The chef took delivery of...my fish and asked how I might like it prepared. They offer a list of options, including Chilean Broil, Jerk, General Tso's and Francaise, among others. We chose Francaise and scheduled a reservation time for that evening. We got a few appetizers to start (baked clams and Manhattan Clam Chowder), and both were excellent. The fish was served over rice with steamed veggies and was simply outstanding. You can't go wrong with the food here! If you hook 'em, they'll cook 'em...and they'll do it really well.More

food better than expected: not cheap though. great for both lunch (more casual menu) and dinner (more sophisticated menu) at lunch: lighter fare: sandwiches, pizzas, saldas. awesome dinner menu: the kimchi lobster fried rice is TO DIE FOR (must have it!) the sea bass was...really tender and tasty. the pasta with lobster had a little spicy unexpected kick that was delicious. they have a small courtyard under the old mini lighthouse (not the real one) in front of the water that makes it very quaint and romantic. our waitress Kara was super attentive and sweet. they welcome dogs too. will go back.More

in these covid days this is a very nice place to have lunch and dinner as they have a large breezy patio. It is too bad that the food does not measure up. It was not terrible, it was just not very good. The fish...was ok, but bony. The shrimp was just not very good and tasted mealy like it had been thawed and frozen a couple of times. Not a lot open out here (at east with full menus), but won't be back this season at leastMore

Well we were already having a difficult time at best staying at the royal Atlantic , but being a typical New Yorker on vacation , we attempted to have dinner at their in house restaurant location / to our dismay it was closed !! Wait...a minute , this was 8 pm on a Monday , so we advance on our journey and drop in at Ruschmeyers / holy moly !! After reviewing the menu and trying to Rationalize a $66.00 steak and $28.00 hamburgers al la cart , we were then informed / albeit there is only one cook and dinner will be served in an hour or so ... Yikes , one cook at a high end eating establishment !! Well star island grill to the rescue , pushing 9 pm , starving the staff was Friendly , the server amazing and the $18 dollar chopped steak , the delicious $32.00 steak cooked perfect ... Kudos to the staff at star island grill , the food was priced fairly and delicious !!! I highly recommend this food establishment!!More

Went here for a Friday night dinner. Waiter could not have been less friendly and inattentive. Food was just ok. I ordered a steak tip sandwich. I had to mention to the waiter that I wanted it medium which was a bad sign. Didn’t matter—...the steak was way over cooked, beyond well done. Would not return.More

Our favorite fisherman Cujo Mike had the chef prepare Striped Bass in a variety of delicious plates. He is a master at getting the dishes out and each plate was gloriously prepared with the garnish related to each character of the culinary variation. For example...the Fish Tacos had the asian slaw ! YUM. I highly recommend the experience.More

Went here for lunch after a day of fishing, food wasnt all that spectacular. I had the seared tuna sandwich, turns out they sear it on a flat top not a grill. The service was horrible, there was not that many people that it should...ahve taken the waitress that long. Her attitude sucked, (if you don;t want to be there Kichelle then quit). Food was over priced, and they don't allow tips on the credit card.More

Charter a fishing boat ( I suggest Cujo) and bring your catch to the Star Island Grill but be very hungry. You will be fed a feast which is a taste explosion of your catch made at least 5 different ways. And the plates are...works of art! Both visually and taste wise. This is the best meal in Montauk.More

Went there with several friends for dinner at the star island marina. It used to be family owned, now it’s owned by Guernseys group of restaurants. We all ordered beer, the keg “just ran out” and bartender said we would have to wait, we did....finally...ended up ordering bottle beer at $7. Each! We ordered the day special of fish tacos, supposed to be sea bass. 25 minutes later our food arrived. Our tortilla shells were dried out, cold and hard. We had fried fish nuggets that were coated in a coconut flour batter. The taco itself was dressed with seaweed salad, grated cheese, sweet and sour dressing with chopped tomato bits and red cabbage! The fish was ok. The rest was not. 3 fish tacos for 24 dollars a plate! Will not be returning there.More

I have been going to the Star Island Grill for 20 years. I am never dissapointed. This year we did the catch and cook and was the best meal i had all week. The fish was cooked 4 ways and just perfect. Highly recommend it....The price can be beat as well for $20 per person. Need to get a Mudslide too, it is a staple.More
