Excellent meal on Saturday night. Early seating around 4pm. Short rib with mushroom risotto was fantastic. It was removed from the specials board during our meal. Very popular. Bacon wrapped shrimp, tomahawk steak, eggplant rollotini. Full bar. Shrimp cocktail and calamari appetizer. Cesar Salad. Not...our first time here. Certainly not our last.More

I've been here mainly for special events. Davenport's has a nice private room that comfortably holds about 50 or so guests, I'd say. The location is ideal. They have ample parking and if you prefer public transportation the Mineola RR station is walking distance for...this location. The venue is charming. Davenport's is a restaurant located in an historical building. The building was originally built in 1896 as the Nassau County Trust. In 1924 it became the Davenport Press and remained a printing press until 1978 when it was converted by its owners to a restaurant. The owners have kept much of the historical interior with exposed beams and bricks. The menu is varied and quite tasty, and the portions are large. I had the London Broil which was fixed just the way I like it. Prices are a bit high but for what you get it's worth it, I think.More

I have been here for several family events. I find the place consistently excellent in terms of food , service and ambiance. Although you pay a pretty substantial bill, you get a quality product.

The food here tasted like prepackaged grocery store food. I had duck with wild rice that was just like Rice a Roni. The duck was under cooked, not crispy, and pretty cold. The grilled salmon was also served cold with a tomato sauce that didn’t...belong at all. Baked clams also tasted store bought. Not sure why this restaurant has a 4.5 rating. The food was subpar.More

Went here with the family the day before Mothers Day. Heard good things from friends. We were seated in the small dinning room on the second floor. Our waiter was very good. Took our order promptly. No complaints here. Salads were fresh and tasty. French...onion soup was good. Most of us had the prix fix dinner menu items. $33 per person. Drinks were I guess average for today's restaurants. The petite sirloin was the best buy. All three were lean and cooked as requested. They came with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. I had the salmon, my son-in-law had to tilapia, also with potatoes and mixed vegetables. Just as good as the steaks. Though it was good, it was just good. Nothing really "popped". To be truthful, I have had as good in good dinners and paid less.Deserts were cheese cake, so-so, chocolate mousse, not so good, pecan pie and vanilla ice cream, standard fair. Total for six adults and three young children, one a three year old, $450, tip included. The drinks were the killer and I did not have one. Would I go there again? Sorry, no.More

On Saturday, February 23, 2019, my wife and I had dinner at the Davenport Press. It was our first time eating there. I fear it may be our last. First off, the décor was right out of the 70's, perhaps the 1870's. The giant moose...head over the fireplace was definitely a conversation piece. Can't say that I've seen anything similar in a restaurant in recent years. The lighting was poor to boot and so I was not too impressed as I sat down to order. Normally, I go to a restaurant to eat and I do not pay a great deal of mind to the ambiance of a particular place. If the food is good, then we can deal with most anything, but I was caught off guard at Davenport. Getting down to the important stuff, the food was as disappointing as the atmosphere and I cannot forgive the restaurant for that. Once we were seated, our server brought us the usual basket of bread and a plate of bruschetta. It was quite pedestrian at best. The diced hot house tomatoes that accompanied it were very poor and tasteless. Serve this dish in the summer months, when tomatoes are at their finest. Moving on, I ordered a stuffed artichoke as an appetizer. I was so looking forward to it and I was crushed as I bite into the first few leaves. It was hard and rubbery and completely under cooked. What a shame! It was such a nice size too. I still cannot believe that they could serve something like that. Finally, my entrée was a seafood stuffed filet of bronzini over a bed of broccoli rabe. Once again, I was so disappointed with the dish. The taste was quite flat and it had no zing. It could not have been properly seasoned at all. On a positive note, the rabe was actually good and there was quite a bit of it as well. I had to satisfy myself with that. On the other hand, my wife had the pistachio encrusted red snapper and she enjoyed it very much. We passed on dessert. By then, I had had enough. I believe that this restaurant has been around for a long time, at least as far as restaurants are concerned. Not sure how they have been able to do that. I know that one meal is a small sample size to judge an establishment, but I have seen, and tasted, enough. Time to move on.More

The Davenport Press is a neat place to meet friends or host a small gathering. Overall the venue is clean and orderly and the service is excellent. Waiters are more than glad to answer your questions and make sure you get what you want. The...menu is varied and prices reasonable for what you get. If you're planning a small party or get-together this is a great place to consider. It's easily accessible both by public transportation and by car.More

First, for once do not overlook the bread; consisting of their own focaccia, a basket of excellent small rolls, and a plate of bruschetta. Then the big choice. Does every one get the price fix with a good assortment for each of three courses. Generally...we do this and get an assortment of appetizers and share. As always most ordered a fish course, for me salmon, cooked the way you like it( just ask). The steak is nice for the price and some like the pastas. Once in awhile one gets a special and we share the large portions of desert... big slices of cheese cake or tiramisu, or a full tulip glass of Hagar Das ice cream are our favorites. If this doesn’t sound like a single visit, you got me. This is our go to place. Last time the price fix price was about $34 or so...one of the best bargains in New York... though I am told the Prix fix lunch menu is even a better deal for what you get. The service is always professional and when something goes wrong the management believes the customer has to be happy.More
