I cannot tell you how disappointed we were. The place had about 100 people on a single Buffett line for cold soggy French toast cold eggs and various sub par breakfast foods. Deserts were stale and pre frozen. Service was sparse, and drinks were weak.... 150.00 for two people. But for me, not even a decent cup of coffee.More

The staff is so rude. There are tons of better italian Restauraunts in the area like 25North. The food is old and stale and flavorless. Do yourself the favor and do not go here

Waiting for the rest of the party we were offered ordering something to drink. Good start. Choose a regular cocktail, not on the summer special list. No issue and very good. The pan seared red sanpper was really well cooked, served with a tasty sauce...and sides perfect. In you choose to sit outside as we did, be prepared for some mosquitos.More

Stopped here on our way to JFK after reading reviews here. The venue is beautiful, an old train station, and the atmosphere is great, very upbeat and friendly. Service is good and fast with a crew waiting to take care of you. My wife ordered...lobster ravioli and was very pleased. I ordered veal chops that were fantastic! Broccoli rabe was great, potatoes were just ok. Prices reasonableMore

We made a reservation for Christmas, traveled from SC to be with our family and at 6:42pm on Christmas Eve I get a TEXT to say they are closed! Nothing else! The manager was so rude and told me they have been closed for 34...years and doesn’t know how we were able to make a reservation. It is no where on their website that they are closed and now we are stranded. This manager should have called me and apologized BUT given me options in the area. Terrible! Just absolutely terrible.More

Quick summary: menu leans toward Italian but has variety. Friendly, professional service. Nice dining room in an old train station. Outdoor tables under the eaves shelter you from rain. Reasonable prices for the quality. I had reason to be at some family events this spring,...and we stopped at this reliable place. Menu as described above -- leans Italian with pastas and main dish preparations (e.g. various chicken preparations - marsala, parmigiana, scarpariello, etc.) There are also pizzas (mostly high $teens) and a burger, too. Most mains are in the $20's, with steaks in the $30's. Meat mains come with appropriate starch and veg. Good bread on the table. My sister and I tend to split things when portions are this large, or plan on take-home leftovers. We split the signature Rails chopped salad ($14) with a lot of delish add-ins. I had the shrimp and calamari linguine ($29), and my sister had the eggplant rollatini ($22.) All was tasty and delish, as has been the case with everything we'd ordered over the years (including the steaks.) Wines by the glass are are well-priced --$10 - $12 this trip. Full bar. Friendly, professional service. Reasonable prices for the quality. This trip, they were quite busy, but respected COVID spacing policies. Rather than wait for a table inside the handsome of train station room, we opted for a table out front under the roof overhang. This was wise as it started to rain mid-meal. However, we didn't feel a drop, and it was nice to be out in the fresh air. You might have a different experience if it is windier, but we were fine. So - again, I'd love to live closer to this place, and would be a regular. Alas, I am an out-of-town visitor who stops in with the family.More

Went for dinner there and it was a very pleasant experience. The hostess was courteous and promptly showed us to our table. The service was very good. The little things were attended to like soda refills without asking. Plates were not left on the table...too long after finishing and the check was promptly delivered when requested. My date and I ended up having the same thing. Burgers. We asked for them to be cooked to different temperatures and they were cooked correctly and tasted really good. The fries were ample and also tasty. Not oily or coated. All in all a good experience.More

Quick summary: wide menu that should please most. Reasonable prices for the quality. Friendly, professional service. Handsome room in an old train station. the menu leans Italian, but has a range of traditional American dishes. Apps mostly in the mid-teens$ (e.g. fried calamari $16; rice...balls $12; 10 wings $15.) Most main dish salads $10-14, add protein for $5 (chicken) to $15 (NY strip.) Wide range of pastas mostly low-to-mid $20's. Most mains of meats in the mid0to-high $20's; steaks more. Nicely dressed-out Rails burger served with sweet potato fries ($17.) There are also good brick oven pizzas (start at $15, add toppings for $2 each.) I was visiting family, and we tend to split things. We split the generously-sized Caesar salad ($9.) She had the eggplant Parm ($19), comes with choice of pasta, salad, or veg of the day. I had a favorite -- scallops over mushroom risotto. All was tasty and fresh-tasting. Both portions were enough to take some home (good dinner planning for the next day.) Full bar with nice wine selections by the glass (most in the $10-13 range) and cocktails ($13-14.) Friendly, professional service with goof COVID safety practices. I always like this room -- an old redone train with high ceiling, fireplace, bistro-like furnishings. this is always a stop when I am in town, and look forward to it again.More

Cancelled our dinner order that was placed at 1230pm on Valentine’s Day at 5:45pm. This order was supposed to be delivered at 6:15pm. I received a notification that they were preparing it at 5:15pm then all the sudden cancelled at 545pm. I would be more...understanding if this was cancelled earlier in the day or even delivered late! I’m now here with a very hungry family- including a 1 1/2 year old! Never will go back/ order again.More

Ate here a few years ago and not much has changed. Three of us had shrimp scampi over risotto, it was tasteless. Didn't even eat the risotto. Three had the pork cutlet special which was good. Nothing to write home about here. Had to find...the waiter to get more drinks and after the first hour we never got any more water.More

My husband and I stopped here recently for a mid-afternoon meal. He had heard great things and was looking to try it. At the end of the holiday season, the place was beautifully decorated and the atmosphere was lovely. They have a lunch special menu...each weekday until 3:30 so I opted for the Eggplant Rollatini which was truly one of the best I've had. My husband had Shrimp Fra Diavolo off the standard menu and thought it was "good, not great" though he never articulated why he characterized it that way. We were both disappointed in the zucchini stick appetizer. When you bit into a stick the zucchini slid right out and we were consistently left with the outside while the vegetable ended on our plates. Service was great, wine was good and the place was charming. I suspect we will be back!More

Quick summary: delicious food, well-priced. Emphasis on Italian and American favorites. Handsome dining room. Friendly, professional service. This is a favorite of the family when I stop in to visit. The menu is fairly wide, so there is always something that everyone wants. We generally...split one of the sizable dinner salads (chopped $12, Caesar $8, other options. An individual garden salad is $6.). Starters are also of a shareable size. Calamari $14-$16 depending on preparation, wings $13, cold antipasto for two $15, with more in the $8 - $15 range. Excellent pizzas $17+ range. For mains, pastas are in the high $-teens to low $20's. We particularly enjoy the mains of meats and seafood, which come with appropriate sides (many $19 - mid $20's, with steaks in the $30's.). We've always had excellent preparations here, fresh and tasty. (I had the filet of sole special the recent night -- $25.). I think there is a burger. You might ask for my father's favorite, not shown on the menu, but available: jumbo cocktail shrimp, at $3 each. He also is a fan of their fish dishes and steaks. Full bar, well-priced. Glasses of wine are in the $9-$10 range for a generous pour. (I forget if it was happy hour.) The dining rooms are in the handsome old train station. Tables, booths, or sit at the bar. The booths are fun, in the retro-circle style. The service is always friendly and professional, as it was again the night I visited. To sum: this is a place that I wish I lived closer to, and another good reason to visit the family.More

We ordered Modern on the Rails from Uber Eats. Our order was a Chicken Scapariello and NY Strip Steak. The chicken was tough, probably overcooked. The Steak was so full of fat and grizzle that it was not eaten. We called the restaurant and were...told that since we ordered through Uber Eats we would have to take our complaints to them. The woman on the phone said if they delivered this order themselves, they would have issued an immediate credit. This is unacceptable since the problem is the quality of the meat not the delivery. No restaurant should serve a piece of meat that is inedible.More

Had bad experiences with previous ownership so had not visited in years. Had a nice family dinner: dining hall is very attractive and modern (the original fire place was saved - nice touch), menu is essentially Italian-American with not too many frills (the black linguine...with sea food were fine), nice cocktail list. Service would gain in being more attentive. Overall, decent value for money.More
