Inzozi Nziza is an example of empowering women and how Rwandans have come together after the Genocide in 1994. Our family watched the documentary, Sweet Dreams, before we visited. It made the visit all the more meaningful. The chocolate and honey ice creams were delicious.

I visited in 2014, but this wasn't in the TA database then. I still think about the goat-milk ice cream. So delicious. While I was there, they were delivering the fresh milk for the next day's batch.

This was recommended by a friend who had lived in Butare. The ice cream is very good, although flavors are limited to whatever they have decided to make that day. The chapati with avocado and egg was my favorite, however. Huge and delicious, and all...More

Stop in and visit the ladies an Inzozi Nziza and have a soft ice - or other dessert! These ladies were featured in the New York Times - and it is a real treat to stop in, chat, and have a home-made ice cream!

Definitely a must if you are in Butare. Although they do have a food menu, I've only tried their desserts and juice. Inzozi Nziza offers two flavors of freshly made ice cream every day with great topping options. I highly recommend trying out the honey...More

We ordered and sat down, almost 30 minutes passed and we were told there was no milk for tea and if we'd like juice instead. Juice was fine with us. Another 30 minutes passed and we still had not received our juice and omelet we...More

This ice cream parlour - Rwanda's first-ever - was created through a partnership between the owners of an American ice cream business - Blue Marble Ice Cream - a group of women in Butare. While it is a for-profit enterprise, it was developed as a women's economic empowerment initiative. The ice cream is made on-site with local milk, sugar and other ingredients. And it's delicious! A must-stop visit for all visitors to Butare!
