After reviewing several menus in town I was attracted to the unique flavors and lakeside seating here. Looked like many dishes were made from local ingredients which was also a plus. We weren't sure what to expect when both tables around us had credits made for issues with their meal. Ours was good flavors but the construction of the sandwiches... More

When I saw the name, I didn't expect a fine dining experience so I was very pleased with the outcome. The place was right in the middle of town, main strip, and was located right on the lake. The setting was very quiet with smooth jazz and piano bar type music playing. White table cloths and the overall fine dining... More

We did not eat at this restaurant, but stopped in for a drink on our way to dinner and sat the bar. There was a good drinks selection - beer and wine - and a warm atmosphere. The barmaid was chipper and friendly.

Horrible horrible horrible service. Bizarre woman who worked there asked if she could sell my children? Odd.

We remember you and your family so well, you came in with your husband and two beautiful babies and sat in booth. I offered to stroll your baby through the restaurant so you could enjoy your meal, as you had one baby in your arms while rocking the other baby in the stroller. Lisa, ( accused baby seller), who you... More

I was excited about eating at this restaurant after reading the reviews. My swordfish was not "cashew crusted" with braised greens as stated. The waiter was unaware what starch was with the dish. The miso noodles were wide semolina noodles. Finally the Caesar salad was swimming in dressing. In addition, the wines on the menu were not updated to their... More

We visited The Brown Dog on a recommendation from a stranger. . . maybe not the best source of information. We arrived at 12:45 and were immediately seated with a great view of Mirror Lake. There were customers at only 3 other tables at the time. The young waitress took our order promptly and then brought us drinks. Then we... More

Thank you so much for your review. You are 100% correct and this server is no longer in our employ. Should you be in Lake Placid again, please stop by and we will do what we can to make this up to you. Warm regards, Kelly More

After 5 days of the same menu choices throughout Lake Placid and too much energy/noise, we were so happy to find the Brown Dog. The risotto was like no other, along with the scallops cooked to perfection. Gourmet in so many respects.

This place is really great! We stopped here during a rainstorm and so glad we did! The food was amazing and the service even better! We sat in the back with a beautiful lake view seat, I had the lobster ravioli who was absolutely delicious! My husband had a steak that was out of this world! Everything comes with a... More

We came in for a glass of wine and appetizers, and stayed for dinner! The knowledgeable service and quality of the food was much appreciated. We sat at a couch with a view of the lake. We liked how you could have a formal meal here, or eat informally at the bar. White linen service or casual! Take your pick.... More

Had a great meal in this restaurant and they were happy for you to share the large portions. Good wine list and friendly staff. (we loved the fact that the owner was mad about dogs) and was very surprised at customers previous comments on dogs!!
