I placed a to-go order for a Small Spanikopita (spinach/feta/phyllo dough dish) to supplement my salad when at home. It was fresh, tasty and the price was right. I'm hoping to head back to Athena Gyro for a full meal, next time I'm in the...area.More

I had the Papoutsaki - stuffed eggplant, my wife had vegetable Gemista - stuffed tomato and stuffed pepper. Both meals were very good. There greek salad and pita bread are excellent. Salad is nearly a meal in its self.

Upon arriving George greeted us with a smile and sat us. Our waitress was prompt and attentive to our needs without being disruptive in our conversation. The atmosphere was bright and the music was authentic Greek music. We ordered a small reek salad which was...plenty for two. We also ordered fried spinach with roasted garlic, which was delicious, as our main dish we ordered authentic Greek Gyros which were over stuffed with meat and fixings. The food was abundant and the service was wonderful. Perfect for lunch and dinner and children. There is also outdoor dining.More

I realize they are pursuing other business ventures but this location in LaGrange is taking a beating on the food quality. Quantity of food has also diminished.

Last night we lost power like many, decided to go to Athena, we've been there before and had take out, not many greek places around, just two of us I don't cook greek often, I was looking forward to a treat, unfortunately it was disappointing,...the moment we sat down, got there around 5, apparently shift changing, the waitress who sat us was not friendly at all, two ladies came in at the same time as we, I took one of them was greek, the owner greeted her; another waitress came in, apparently we where in her section, she took our order and the ladies, I saw her interaction with them, obviously the greek lady was well known, in any case we waited and got our lukewarm avgolemono soup, later calamari came, a sauce dish plopped on top didn't seat well, it spilled all over, ok, waited again, in the meantime the ladies were served their salads/appetizers & getting their entrees, the room was now busy, waitress never asked if we wanted another beer, didn't came around, finally got our food as the ladies were leaving, cold Lamb kebob and lukewarm gemista, both should be hot, we ask for containers to take them home, the owner came around asked how is the food? I said tasty but cold, he kept going I guess misunderstood me, customers were complaining about the ac. There is nothing worse for me than lousy service and cold food. Our family has been in the food/restaurant industry most of our lives owning/operating we may be more aware and sensitive but we understand specially now it's difficult to have dependable and qualified workers.More

Please let me preface this by saying I like to write reviews for the best of places, or seldomly when a place misses the mark. Unfortunately this was one of those poor occasions. Secondly, this was a take-out order so I will only comment on...the food, understanding and accounting for the drawbacks of take-out. Order: Two gyros, one split pea soup, and one skordalia. The gyros were both ordered with no onion (shhh) and the meat to be sliced thin and grilled slightly crispy; both gyros were onion-less, but the meat was cooked normally and very thick. The female taking the order seemed busy, but certainly agreed to the slight alterations. The split pea soup was pretty good, but a little different than we're used to. It was relatively thick, which was good, but a tad too salty. The pea flavor was evident, but there was an overwhelming taste of garlic; I love garlic, but not on this scale. Lastly, the skordalia was new to us so we had nothing to compare it to. Take-out left it cold so in hindsight, heating it up would have been a good idea. The dish was oddly a bit bitter and it did not contain the garlic that was advertised. I would skip this dish entirely. Bottom line: If an establishment cannot fulfill a simple request for a dish, they've lost my business. I do not recommend Athena Gyro and I will not be returning.More

My husband and I stopped here on our way from dropping our daughter at college. We got take out, but after we get our vaccines we will be back to eat there. The gyros were absolutely delish! So fresh! Tons of lamb and just the...right amount of sauce. My husband had the Greek fries and loved them. The place looks really nice. Enjoyed this meal and the staff was friendly too.More

My wife and I have been dining here since George opened the restaurant. We always start with an over priced bottle of Retsina Greek wins and the flaming cheese “Saganaki”. Athena serves a “selection” of Greek dishes, not a complete Greek Restaurant to be sure,...but since Greek food is limited to the area we welcome what we can get. Every meal that we have had for more than a year had been delicious and filling. We have no complaint with the food or the service. BUT, we noticed something new on the bill: An “Up Charge” for credit card use was added. I called George over to ask about the ew charges. In my opinion, credit cards are universally accepted for payment. No one carries “much” cash on them. We have been eating here for over a year and every bill exceeded 100.00 for the 2 of us. We have also brought our friends here to introduce them to Greek food & wine and George. George informed me that all bills will now include an up charge for credit cards. My response, sorry to hear that! In my opinion, credit card charges are part of the cost “overhead expense” for doing business. I DO NOT PATRONIZE BUSINESSES that charge customers for card use. Additionally, I asked if he honored our Military and Police with a discount? The Daily Planet, down the road offered a 10% discount. PC Paddok also offers a 10% discount. George responded he does not give anyone a discount, not Military, not Police, not first responders, not health care .... no one. I informed George that I will take my business elsewhere. Ps: I I get a Military discount, I don’t need the money, I apply the money saved from the discount to the waitresses tip, she probably needs it more than me. Walt Disney trained his employees to give patrons the “WOW EXPERIENCE “ they will come back. However, a negative wow experience drives them away. Good bye George.More

We ordered take out for dinner. I had the Greek salad (add gyro chicken) and hubs had the lamb plate. He loved the lamb, said it was very good. My salad was a very generous portion (the large) and it was clearly very fresh! We...ordered hummus and Tzatziki on the side. The Tzatziki was very good, the hummus was ok. It was a bit bland and runny for my liking. The pita they serve with it was excellent!! The gyro chicken on my salad was cut into tiny thin strips. They seemed a bit rubbery texture-wise. I wasn't a bit fan - that being said, the salad was still enjoyable.More

My wife and I recently have take out on our first visit. She chose the stuffed pepper which also included a stuffed tomato. I went with the stuffed eggplant plus an order of stuffed grape leaves. The main courses each included a Greek salad and...we were very surprised that the salads were so large. Needless to say after our 2 main courses of stuffed vegetables, we were stuffed; enough so that we had leftovers for the next day. Food was fresh and plentiful. We will be back.More
