Cajun / southern comfort menu in downtown section of Ithaca. Has a small bar and additional seating in bar area. Have been here several times during trips to Ithaca and will keep going back.

Went here for dinner with my husband . He ordered the gumbo for an appetizer I ordered the Bbq shrimp! Both were excellent! The gumbo was a generous portion, thick and tasty with the right amount of spice. My shrimp was tasty and also just enough. For an entree he ordered the pulled pork sandwich with the coleslaw also excellent!... More

We came in with 16 people after a family reunion at happy hour time. They were able to handle our big crew with ease. The oyster were very good and I had the mountain trout. No complaints from anyone. Jonathan our waiter was very efficient and knowledgeable. Would come back if in the area. Parking is limited so go early,... More

Being huge gumbo fans, and usually finding the best on the Gulf Shores of Alabama, we were greatly surprised to find such wonderful southern fare this far North. Maxie's food, ambience, menu and service (Rachel is Great!) are as good as you'll find anywhere here or south of the Mason, Dixon line. I wish Maxie's had been around Ithaca, when... More

I stopped here for dinner and ate in the bar area. I sat at a table but the service was so painfully slow that I moved to the bar. The crawfish Monica was fried nicely but I was expecting pan-fried, not deep fried, which would have been better. The spinach was fresh. Overall a very nice meal. I will return.

Excellent menu with specials every night. Lots of great southern style, barbeque and unique offerings. Great beer selections, fair prices and large portions.

The Damn Good Fish Fry had 4 nice chunks of fish, which were very nicely cooked. The pile of fries was huge but not nearly the same quality. Creamy cole slaw was also good. The steamed clams were very nice as well, but the peel-n-eat shrimp would have been better without the extra seasoning dump after they were played. Kinda... More

Many of our out-of-town family members insist on Maxie's as a "must" eat-out spot when they are in town for a visit. As long as we call ahead, we've never had trouble getting a seat, and everyone loves the food. The restaurant offers excellent choices for our vegans, and our big meat eaters love the BBQ ribs and jambalaya. Myself,... More
