We stopped here on way from Mexico City to Queretaro and had a wonderful breakfast here. It is very modest place but service and quality is outstanding ... and prices are very budget-oriented.

About an hour and a half outside of Mexico City on the route to Queretaro, you will pass through the little town of Palmillas. While hardly more than a tiny town with a few service stations, we noticed the high concentration of restaurants proclaiming “Barbacoa” from the billboards, which is lamb / goat slow roasted in banana leaves in an... If you are taking the road from Mexico City to Queretaro, you have to stop in Barbacoa Santiago, close to San Juan del Rio. Like they mention in the restaurant, "no tenemos sucursales", meaning this is the original and only one! I usually order a Consomé and Tacos de Masisa. They are just delicious! Just add all the sauces and... More

Great barbacoa de borrego. Consome is great as well. Service is excellent, servers are quick and polite. They only accept cash. The street is under construction and it's hard to find a spot to park.

The barbacoa de santiago its an obligated stop when heading from mexico city to queretaro. The barbacoas flavor is amazing and they also offer a variety of other dishes, although its kind of pricy for the type of restaurant. Even the impressive amount of clients, the service is fast.

Home made tortillas and live music for breakfast! I say yes. The soup was tasty and the salsa was smokey and spice. I'd come back on my next trip.

Lots of people stop here, no wonder. The barbacoa (lamb meat slowly cooked in banana leaves) is amazing. We had tacos and also the consome which is made of the juices of the cooked meat. Plus it's ideally located, 1.5 - 2 hours our of Mexico city, great for a 1st stop!

Thank Ludo-Owen
