Just returned from another wonderful stay at the Kunta Kinteh bungalows. You get a very warm welcome from all the staff and everyone says hello as they pass. Jo the reservation manager is happy to help in any way he can, with always a smile...on his face. There has been a pool and pool bar added this year which looks absolutely fabulous. It was not quite finished in time for us to use, but we have already booked for next season as we feel that the bungalows are home from home set on the really stunning Kotu beach. The restaurant has really upped its game and we didn’t have one bad meal while we were there everything was delicious. Thanks for having us Kunta Kinteh and we’ll see you next time.More

We went as a large group and waited a while to be served but it was worth waiting for. The restaurant is located on the beach with a few shops nearby and bathroom facilities. All very clean considering it’s on the beach. Staff very friendly...and accommodating. The prices are good for a beach restaurant. Depending on the size of your group the food is brought out in good time. But the bigger your group the longer you wait. We mainly came for lunch and dinner and were never disappointed on the quality or quantity of the food. All in all a good place to eat with good staff and good food.More

We went to this place yesterday (19 Feb) and ordered Chef’s special soup, chicken spring rolls, grilled butterfish and Benachin with fish (the saus on which tasted more like a neutral pasta saus than the local dish). We are always very cautious about what we...eat but the food seemed ok so we ate it - and then spent most of the night and today in the bathroom with painful cramps and a rotten substance coming out from everywhere. I will spare you the details... We are certain it was the food from this place because we skipped lunch and this was the only meal we had yesterday. Even without the food poisoning, this place was not great. The service was slow, our waiter seemed annoyed, the live music was good but way too loud (which is ok if you’re at a concert but not if you cannot hear your partner during a dinner at the beach) but it was still better than the 3 songs which were put on repeat the first hour that we were there. With the food poisoning this place earned the ‘terrible’ rating. Be warned and avoid this place. It sadly spoiled our last day in the Gambia.More

Just back from an amazing four weeks staying at the bungalows at Kunta Kinteh so we used this restaurant many times. The restaurant food was amazing, OK sometimes you may have to wait a while if the restaurant is busy, but it was lovely to...relax and admire the lovely sea view from the restaurant. To say how many full tables they are serving we thought they did really well to cope as well as they did. The ‘proper’ chips and omelettes are gorgeous and you certainly get a generous portion. The chef’s make their own coleslaw and it is beautiful. The chefs made us some lovely dishes, they even make their own bread in the kitchen some days. Our favourite dish was the chicken breast fillet in mushroom sauce and the paprika chicken with proper chips of course. We had a few burgers and they were delicious, when talking to the chef he said they make their own burgers. We had a few full English breakfasts in the restaurant and they were very reasonably priced (275D) and excellent quality. I am quite faddy with bacon and sausage but the bacon and sausage were just like from home. You only have to look at how busy the restaurant is both during the day and at night to see how popular the restaurant is. There was entertainment every night and we had some really good nights there. They have the huge advantage of having a big dance floor, unlike some of the tiny bars in the area where they have a good band but no room to dance, so there is plenty of room for people to dance at KK. They even have an Elvis tribute singer on a Monday evening. The band 5 Star are brilliant and had everyone up dancing. You can of course carry on drinking after the entertainment stops. We found the drinks in the restaurant to be very reasonably priced compared with other restaurants. We had a few Paradise cocktails, and wow they were strong and very nice indeed. We did not bother doing the BBQ as we are not keen on BBQ’d food so sadly cannot comment on that but lots of people did seem to book for it. The waiters and waitresses were all lovely and it is a lovely touch that Solomon is usually in the restaurant checking that all is ok and will wander around and ask people if everything is ok. Unlike the toilets at some other restaurants, won’t name them but some are an absolute disgrace, the toilets at KK are absolutely spotless. A cleaner sits outside the toilets and keeps going in to clean them. There are always clean towels and liquid soap. Would not hesitate at all in recommending this restaurant for breakfast, lunch or evening meal. Good portions, reasonable priced drinks and excellent service and entertainment in a setting right on the beach. They pull screens down on windy nights. Looking forward to our next visit to this lovely restaurant.More

Yes there is a limited vegetarian section, several Africa dishes are meat free, if you advance order the chefs are very accommodating. Lunch time always very busy with sun seekers off the beach, be prepared to wait.
