On Friday afternoon, I drove from Fort Lee, NJ to Mount Fuji (45 minute drive) to celebrate the reopening of indoor dining at one of my favorite places. I called the day before and spoke to the receptionist and she told me the hours for...Friday. I then called back and spoke to a gentleman and inquired about sitting at a hibachi grill table. Neither the receptionist nor the gentleman told me that reservations were needed nor asked me if I wanted to make reservations (despite me having told the receptionist that we were a party of 3, wanted indoor dining and would be arriving there on Friday right at opening at 4pm. Sure enough we arrived at 4pm and were the second group to arrive (there was a couple standing outside when we arrived). We approached the receptionist (the same person I spoke to the prior day) and I said that I had called, that we were a party of 3, and that we wanted indoor dining . She said, "Do you have reservations? I said that I had spoke to her the prior day, told her that I was coming at opening hour and at no time did she state that we needed, nor asked if we wanted to make reservations. I then said that there was no one there, that we had come a pretty long way, so could we eat indoors. She then answered," We just opened. They haven't come yet". (I am sure not many had reservations on a week day at 4pm!). She then said, "You can sit outside. But we have a different menu (which turned out not to be true!)". I sat down on a couch to gather my thoughts and decide, when she said, "You can't sit there." I really wanted to leave, but that would be almost a 2 hour drive for nothing, and my daughter was hungry. So I ignored her and we walked outside to the outdoor dining area. We had a very nice waiter whom I asked if we could order the hibachi cooked food outside and he said, "Sure"( she had said, no.) It was a bit hot (about 85 degrees) which was the reason for wanting to sit indoors. The food was good. And what about all of the people, whom the receptionist said had reservations and were on their way? Well, we ate for an hour and when we left there were only 3 other tables occupied outside beside ours (we were the first outside) and there were hardly any people dining indoor. So we could have easily been served indoors. So a bit of advice to management...this receptionist should either be trained on how to act with the public (her English is not fluent either) or she should be given a different job, and not one which is the face of the business and really the only contact point until the customers are seated at their table. In this way, Mount Fuji will not lose the reputation for quality food and professional service for which it was previously known.More

I grew up in north Jersey. As a child I was fascinated by this unique building on top of the hill that we passed on our way to my grandparents. I knew nothing about Japanese culture or architecture, so this unique structure stood out like...a palace from the cookie-cutter ranch houses of my neighborhood. Passing this place decades later I was still drawn to the location and finally visited the restaurant that had remained a mystery for so many years. Part of the Hibachi experience is the performance of the chef. There is a lot of tongue-in-cheek cheesy humor, scripted but delivered with a smile, that makes you laugh despite yourself. You share a table with others so it would be best to go with a big group. Most people order off the hibachi menu, but there is also a fairly broad sushi/sashimi menu. We had the volcano roll to start and it was the best thing we had. The dinner meal is filling and varied with soup, rice, veggies and shrimp included with whatever your main course is. We both had different types of steak (it was okay). The people were exceptionally polite. We will definitely be back for lunch to make the most of the views, which we couldn't see at night. There is also a full service bar, which you can use to take advantage of the views without eating. Note that there is only valet parking.More

Holiday brunch today was delicious and more expensive. The views and all food was good as well as organization. Calm atmosphere for holiday weekend. Table for two was cumbersome around the knees. Perhaps more breakfast items could be added. Desserts are a plus which includes...a chocolate fountain.More

There's so much more to Mt. Fuji than hibachi steak and Benihana tricks! The recently renovated lounge is super chic and offers a surprisingly high-end tasting menu that'd easily fit in in the city. Despite being picky Manhattan foodies, we were really impressed with the...food--apparently the chef is the former executive chef of the splashy, once-hyped Megu restaurant. The refined presentation, high quality ingredients, and creative flavor profiles were a pleasant surprise (definitely get that mentaiko unagi starter!). Special shoutout to the co-owner Yoshi for his sincere "omotenashi" hospitality. He went above and beyond to make our family feel at home. We were blown away by his generosity and lively energy, and we look forward to watching his and Nancy's family business continue to expand and flourish! Definitely give Mt. Fuji a chance on your next trip upstate (oh hi, Woodbury Common outlets!) or for a big event (they can accommodate massive groups). Just be sure to make a res because this place is crazy popular!More

Busy place, nice atmosphere w great views. Sunday brunch had a nice selection of food with omelet and carving station of Roast Beef/Turkey. Breakfast items (omelets, waffles) were much better than the lunch items. Quite a few servings were cold and several times dishes were...empty. Example-plenty shrimp but no cocktail sauce. 30 minutes later-plenty cocktail sauce but no shrimp. Overall grade C+ Not terrible, but barely worth the money spent.More

This is the first time I’ve been to the Mount Fuji in Hillburn, NY. I was quite offended to be told that I would be charged two dollars per person for them to serve us a birthday cake that I brought with me. Insult was...further compounded when I was told there was a five dollar per table charge for them to sing happy birthday! Really? Especially as our bill for a table of 10 was more than $350!!!!More

Went to see Killer Komedy show there in a rented hall for interactive comedy mystery show and dinner. We left after a torturous hour and a half in as they finally served us dinner after doors opened at 7.30p.m Why make customers wait an hour...and a half? Because they have bars where they sell alcohol and drinks for 10 and 12 dollars a pop. The food finally served after 9.15 p.m, even though we were starving, was a horror. Meat that was hard as rubber, and a chicken lo mein that tasted and looked like it was prepared in a blender. We were disgusted and all at are table couldn't believe the terrible quality of the food. Now for the crowd there were a few table of very drunk and loud and screaming people really making it impossible to enjoy the show when it actually was "performed" and the "Cop" which ran things brought up patron after patron of shy dinner goers where they'd exchange an unpleasant and awkward exchange that was far from humorous. There was 30 seconds more of bad acting followed by 4 dinner patrons or more called up for these horrific exchanges and then back to music and really bad food. We decided like another couple had at our table to leave, they left after twenty minutes in to call it a night and leave, we should have ran with them. This was painfully bad to watch. 140 dollars wasted. And we drove from queens to see this show and place. The one positive is the place itself is beautiful clean and nice views but that was it. Do yourself a favor and dont waste your night on this garbage food and "entertainment". We drove home with upset stomachs and had heartburn and stomach aches the rest of the night. So shocked at how bad this whole experience was as we have been to dinner theater in Lancaster at Dutch Apple Theater and Rainbows Comedy play house in Pennsylvania before and saw some average shows. This was epically horrible. Zero stars or minus 1 star rating if I could as 1 star rating is 2 stars too many. Minus rating for horrible food, show and evening. Yuck!!!!More

We went for the Sunday Brunch. Location - spectacular 5/5 Food - not really impressed, 3/5 Price - affordable, but it doesn't equate the quality of food. Food quantity is ok 3.5/5 Service - 4/5 Over-all, its not a bad Sunday morning brunch.
