I came here in early October with two friends before travelling home. The food was fantastic, flavoursome and plenty. The venue is very clean and the staff were ery polite.. Shame I live 60 miles away but I shall definitely be returning next year.
We used to frequent the Anglers Retreat as it used to be called when we lived in the area so it was exciting for us to be able to catch up with friends in an old familiar place. COVID rules were in force (no problem...with that) so I had to download the app to buy anything - three of us tried but only I succeeded with downloading so not a good start! Drinks were prompt and service from the bar was excellent. The problem came when we went to queue for the Sunday Carvery; our group of four kept social distance from others but were still together chatting when a very officious “Paolo” told us that we were too close together. When we replied we were from the same group he said if we did not split up he would make us sit down! I get the COVID rules but what annoyed me/us was the way and tone that we were spoken to and the fact that we were that close at the table anyway!
The food was good and it is a lovely pub to visit but our experience was sadly spoiled by an over-officious employee who had neither tact nor basic communication skills. There are ways to speak to people and this was not it so a good experience was sadly spoiled by one employee.More
Went out for a beer catch and a burger with an old friend.
Had a few beers and a great burger. Service was good, attentive and commutative.
Beer was good. Conversation flowed. What more could you want!
Previous visit with Wife wasnt so good, service...good but food not so but this time was good all round.More
Been in a few times since new COVID rules and procedures - Mask on, QR login at the door using NHS app. Then find a free table (one without the ‘Reserved’ signs on), and use the Breakspear app to order at the table. This visit...I get told at the free table “Don’t just sit down, check with me first!” I shake my head and suggest “a new thing, and I understand the COVID rules”. Manager thinks I’m trying to argue, I’m trying to work out what I’ve done wrong.
Order 2nd drink on the app… 10 minutes later after no drink delivered I approach the bar and query, to be told “Are you sure you’ve ordered?” Well the app confirmed the order and I got an email, so yes I’m sure. “Don’t get attitude with me!” I get told by the manager.
Definitely #firstworldproblems and, I really miss old pubs without apps, and being able to order at the bar, face to face like normal human beings.More
We came here 3 times with friends and family during August and the Eat out deal.
Precautions have undertaken to eat safely, sir at a distance and order at the bar or in advance. We had pizzas, burgers the usual fare, with side orders. Staff...are friendly and food was served with a smileMore
shared a starter for lunch, pulled pork nachos. Really deilcious puffed 'chips' not the standard tacos, the pork was lovely and mixture was incredibly tasty. Very generous, probably too much for a starter if you were having a main course too, perfect for lunch. Good...pint of beer and very good Chardonnay, hand sanitizers around and friendly staffMore
Stayed outside with a reduced bar menu of pizza/burgers. I’ve been shielding so I wasn’t ready for an ‘inside the pub’ experience but we hadn’t appreciated there would be a different menu. We wiped down the table removing chewing gum and cigarette butts. Not the...most auspicious start 🤦🏻♀️
The app worked for some of the order but not all and so despite both of us having downloaded the app, we still needed to place some of our order at the bar.
Food and drinks were good and the toilets were clean. But, for me personally, because staff don’t wear masks or visors and they lean over to set things down, I didn’t feel comfortable. There’s no track and trace if dining outside (though we both went inside to order and use the loo meaning we moved freely through the pub). I’d want to see more table cleaning, a working app, and extra Covid precautions to return.More
Went for a family meal. The decor is lovely and really enjoyed the music playing. Our waitress Vanessa was brilliant. She was friendly and happy. She was knowledgeable about the menu and able to answer all our questions. Especially on the the gins the pub...offer. My latte came with a bird in the froth. Highly recommended.More
We visited the pub during the government scheme, while the pub was packed everyone fealty with this as smoothly as possible. Our waitress Chloe was amazing and dealt with our needs efficiently despite having a full restaurant to take care of as well. We will...be back.More
