We stayed in downtown Flushing to be near LGA. It was a nice walk to Mapu BBQ for lunch. The food was outstanding and plentiful. We really enjoyed the squid on rice and the short ribs as lunch specials. The Bon Chon or side dishes were great, especially the scallion pancakes and Kimchi.

I went twice in the past week, first with two of my closest friends, and then again with my 11 year old daughter and her friend. On both occasions the staff were so friendly, and welcoming. This is a great place to go if you want good Korean bbq. It’s not fancy, but it’s clean, and the staff is so nice

This corner restaurant in the Murray Hill neighborhood of Flushing has in-table BBQ pits, where the wait staff will cook your food for you. The meats are really good, and so are the dumpling soups. Plus, they bring out a bunch of small cold dishes for you to eat as well, at no extra charge. Really great service with friendly people here.

WARNING TO CUSTOMERS WHO ARE NOT KOREAN! This place is extremely RACIST. I came here with my mother and sister, we are from Hispanic descent. We were dressed very well, even carrying our designer bags. Although that shouldn’t matter. They did not speak English at all and it was very hard to communicate with them, not even trying. We had to ask another patron for help with the menu. Food- Was mediocre at best. Location- if you are a women, please be careful traveling to this area. Across the street from the restaurant, there were about 40 homeless people cat calling all women. It’s disgusting. Please save your money and time. Do not come here.

Fantastic Korean BBQ - every little plate was delicious and the main BBQ - shrimp and short ribs were outstanding- even with all our allergy issues, we managed to feed everyone well - the stay was terrific

There are a lot of options in Flushing for Korean BBQ and it's not easy to decide which to go to. But after eating here I can say I will definitely come back next time I visit Flushing. The food was top quality, albeit a bit pricey but definitely worth it. The service was great and friendly, checking on me regularly to make sure everything was good.

We're an Italian family from Queens and decided to try this top-rated restaurant in our area according to Trip Advisor. It was not possible for us to find parking and after 4 passes of the place, circling the neighborhood for 20 min we noticed a tiny sign in front for valet parking. That was very convenient. Then we waited 15 min for seating. Expect to feel like a sardine because there is absolutely no room to move standing inside. Thankfully the seating for the 5 of us was comfortable. The barley tea was very nice. This is my 5th time eating Korean out but I have never had this particular style of BBQ. This meat is chunky and cooked on a grate with fire coals which are brought to your table and assembled in front of you. I asked for bulgogi but they didn't have it so I guess it's because that is cooked on solid surface. We got 4 beef dishes, 2 marinated and 2 unmarinated - both were good quality, marbled meat, tender and tasty. We had the cold noodle soup which had a strange smell and taste so we left it. The small dishes of condiments were fresh and of a variety of flavors. I liked the pickled radish, egg salad, broccoli, cream corn. We were still hungry so we ordered a shrimp BBQ which were not as good as the beef dish. I think it took us too long to eat - they asked us to leave because of the waiting customers. We didn't mind as they treated us very nicely, making sure we ate the meat as soon as it was ready. I would go again but the cost was just too high for us - for 6 main dishes and 20% tip, came to $240 so we'll try Korean again somewhere else.

Came to this resto based on a suggestion from a Korean food. There's definitely a reason why this little gen is highly rated. We entered on a Saturday around lunchtime. Fortunately, we were seated immediately. The servers are warm and friendly - imagine a Korean mom doting on you. As other readers have pointed out, the resto uses charcoal instead of gas to cook the meat. This little detail adds to the flavor of the meats such as galbi and bugolgi. The servers come by to cook the meat for you - so if you're used to cooking yr own food, let the experienced staff handle. Another highlight is the banchan (or side dishes). There is a whole spread including the usual suspects such as kimchi, tofu and radish. Don't be afraid to ask for addtl sides. The menu is a bit pricey but you definitely get what you pay for. The meat dishes start at $28+ but can easily feed a party of four. There were six of us and we ordered 3 types of meats. In addition, the resto is located in Flushing and it's not the most convenient place to get to, esp if you're visiting NYC. But, as a local, it's definitely worth a detour.

There was an article in the NYTimes recommending various Korean restaurants in this area, and Mapo BBQ rated very highly for Kalbi. We ordered two servings of their specialty, plus one dish of cold noodles. The quality of the beef was high and the service pleasant. I did think that the side dishes were mediocre, especially given the price point. Others have said that it is expensive. It was about 40 dollars per person for one serving of beef, before tax and tip. So while the BBQ was good I'm not sure it was worth it.

Five of us were at the restaurant for lunch on Tuesday. It was quite packed. The food was at a good price. Beef Soup (소고기국밥) and Yukgyejang were excellent. One of us had a lunch special - Croaker (조기구이 백반).

Husband and I went for Korean barbeque on a Friday night in August. They have valet parking out front, which was very convenient. The place was packed, we had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. Waitresses were very friendly. They have charcoal cooktops, which are great, and give the meat a good flavor. We had beef ribs and pork. Banchan was plentiful, loved the kimchi, fried anchovies with peanuts, and the baked corn. The broth was also delicious and unexpected. They have sake and soju, both good accompaniments for Korean. It was a bit expensive, but worth it for a treat. Would definitely return.

Read a good review in NYT and tried it with friends. While food was good (or fair at least), the prices are out of line with similar establishment in the predominantly Korean neighborhood. If you don't mind paying more than the competition, go there. If you want to eat similar food at less cost go to the competition in the very same area. Will not go again.

Next to their Bbq joint is a smaller, bright restaurant. The staff was amazingly accomodating, and the place was spotless. Don't expect BBq, this part of Mapo has more traditional hot pots and other items. This was exactly what I wanted - I was heading out of NY to CT and I didn't have the time to spend at BBQ. I landed there late for lunch - around 2pm, and despite the staff getting ready to feed themselves they were attentive, friendly and warm. I love korean food...and they served some kimchee that I had never tasted before. I had octopus bimbimbap. It was good. They would have scored higher if I had never been to hahm ji bach. Still, if you are looking for good, Korean food in a clean restaurant with friendly staff that speaks English, this place is for you. Parking can be an issue as it is for many of the Korean Restaurants in Queens.

A good Korean BBQ is a thing of beauty—and this most definitely was a work of art. Four of us ordered BBQ. The meat was beautifully marbled, tender and flavorful—and cooked at our table by an attentive, efficient, and very pleasant waitress. Side dishes were varied and included some excellent kimchi, an outstanding Korean custard, and a warm and comforting corn pudding. Rice was perfectly cooked. Our stomachs were fully distended when the owner brought a Korean pancake (she referred to it as a Korean pizza), crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside, "on the house." We washed it all down with barley tea and a good quality Shoju. Eat your heart out, Kim Jong-Un! The place is small and not easy to find. Best to take a Korean taxi—the driver will know the way. And don't be discouraged if there is a wait. It's well worth the time!

We made a special trip to Mapo based on the recent NYT article naming it one of the best Korean BBQ places in Flushing, Queens. We made the trek on the #7 train to get out to Flushing and then another mile or so hike to the restaurant itself. First of all, the food is very good and the BBQ beef is excellent. But the restaurant is very small, so expect to wait for a table on the weekends and the price for the BBQ beef is very high ($38 for each order when we visited) and not really worth the cost. That said the bachan dishes served prior to the main course were excellent and were equal to what we had eaten in other Korean places in Ft. Lee, San Francisco and Seoul.
