We’ve been going to Gaby’s since it opened years ago and the quality of some items has declined. The shrimp burrito in particular used to be full of big juicy shrimp in every bite and was very tasty. Over the years the amount of shrimp...has noticeably declined and the other night, it was like finding a needle in a haystack. There was maybe one puny little shrimp in the entire burrito and it was somewhat bland tasting. What a ripoff for something that cost $19. The guacamole was pretty tasteless too. Other items like the portobello quesadilla and veggie burrito were tasty, but we don’t understand why the restaurant still refuses to offer vegetarian rice that is not made with chicken stock. The staff and ambience are otherwise very pleasant. Just very disappointed in the overall decline in food quality .More

I hate to leave bad reviews but I live locally and the food here is extremely inconsistent and overpriced. Their food lacks flavor and quality. It is definitely not authentic Mexican. The hostess is rude. The chips are stale. The menu description of the entree...does not even match what you are served. They must just substitute ingredients? I wouldn’t complain if the prices were fair but when you pay $33 for an entree you kind of expect it to be somewhat enjoyable. Save your money and time. Sorry for the honest reviewMore

Based on selection of restaurants from prior reviews and they did not disappoint! Shrimp burrito was the best I ever had and service was awesome. If they had a higher rating they would get it!

We like Gaby's very much but the owner cares nothing for its vegetarian and vegan customers, and does not bother disclosing in the menu that the vegetable dishes contain chicken stock. All the rice is made with chicken stock, as is even the light tomato...sauce that they put on the vegetable burrito. If the owner is reading this, please respect our dietary restrictions- this is a simple fix that we have suggested to the wait staff for years, but never changes.More

Right next door to Shadowland Stages, Gaby’s is a great place for a pre-show meal. It is charmingly decorated and has a very impressive bar occupying much of one long wall. We arrived at 6 and the tables quickly began to fill. This is clearly...a popular place! Service is very friendly and attentive, and a nice gentleman who I assume is the owner kept a close eye to ensure that everything was running smoothly, checking in with each table and pitching in as needed. A basket of warm tortilla chips served with homemade salsa was placed on the table as soon as we were seated. The salsa was excellent, mild with pronounced notes of garlic and fresh cilantro. There were 6 of us this evening and we ordered a variety of items from the menu. For an appetizer we had guacamole, which was slightly chunky and clearly was freshly made. Chopped fresh (not canned) jalapeños were served on the side, since some of us wanted mild and some like spicy. Mussels were also ordered and my friend enjoyed them. I ordered a special, Black Sea bass. It was a decent-sized fillet, grilled and topped with a lemon/white wine sauce. It was a light, fresh and delicious entree. Two in our party ordered enchiladas with green sauce. The sauce was bright and tart and not at all spicy, and so delicious, my friend wished they had added a bit more on the dish. Others ordered a huge burrito, San Jose chicken, and a very large quesadilla. It appears that Ellenville is gradually gentrifying, with a few interesting shops nearby. There are several very nice restaurants on this block but we chose Gaby’s for its large menu with a wide range of dishes, from tapas to salads, traditional Mexican favorites and lighter options (often hard to come by in Mexican restaurants) such as the Black Sea bass and the San Jose chicken. We saw impressive looking desserts going by but we were too full to indulge this visit.More

We just moved to Ellenville and made Gaby's Cafe our first dinner spot. It was a perfect experience. The wait staff is friendly and hard working, the margaritas are delicious, and the food came out promptly and was so fresh! The house made Guacamole was...rich and so, so fresh, the complimentary salsa that came with the chips had just the perfect amount of cilantro. We had mussels, calamari and chilis rellenos and everything was so light, perfectly seasoned and fresh. I can't repeat enough the word fresh. The mussels were sweet, the calamari soooo tender, and we could only have a taste each of the Chilis because we were sated but not stuffed. We will be eating our leftovers for breakfast! The decor is colorful and tasteful, and surprisingly quiet for a full dining room with brick walls. The room was busy for a Monday night, and it's no wonder! Gaby's is wonderful! Eat there!More

I stopped here for lunch over Labor Day weekend while in the area with my sister, my 26 year old niece and 23 year old nephew. A fun, delightful atmosphere, good food and good drinks and pleasant service. My only complaint is that a 20%...tip was added onto the bill with no mention made. My niece, without my knowledge, took the check to pay the bill as a show of appreciation to me. Luckily her mom - my sister - noticed the tip was already included. Not realizing that, my niece was adding in yet another 20%!! The bill before tip was $225, it was $270 after the $45 tip. My niece would have included another $54 had it not been noticed. I looked but saw no mention of an automatic addition of tip anywhere. I'm sure it was an oversight not to say anything but it left a bad taste in our mouth, no pun intended. It was a good lesson for my niece but she works very hard to make what money she has and that would just not have been right had she ended up paying a $99 tip.More

We sat outside for lunch and watched the world go by! Excellent tortilla chips and a huge serving of well made guac (worth the extra $$). The chorizo was delicious and the mole was well seasoned and worth writing home about!
