This was a really sweet find in Cortland, NY! Food was delicious, service was great, and the portions are generous. Very good quality food, prices were reasonable. We travel a lot for work, eat at a lot of different places. Rarely do I leave a...review unless I am blown away, this place was really a diamond!More

I belong to a group of enthusiasts who collect bellybutton fluff and we are obsessed with anything hairy. Herry poosey,a member from my club, telephoned me and was very excited because he had found a restaurant called “hairy Tony’s”. I had to sit down for a...few minutes to calm myself down but then I began to dance with the upmost intensity and joy. I booked a plane ride to NEW YORK and within one week,I was in the city, roaming the streets as I forgot the address! After 7 months of searching,I found it !!!!! I was greeted with a huge smile from a woman with a red beard,it was magnificent! I ordered a “steak “ as I was in the USA. It was difficult for me to eat it because I am a vegetarian but I needed to because I wanted to tell hairy tony that he is a very good chef. I asked to see hairy Tony and I was escorted to the kitchen. “HAIRY TONY, WHERE ARE YOU, I NEED TO SEE YOU, I HAVE BROUGHT MY COLLECTION OF BELLY BUTTON FLUFF TO SHOW YOU!!!!” I shouted as loud as I could. After a minute or two,a head appeared from behind a fridge…. It was Tony! Tony wasn’t what I expected……. He wasn’t hairy (not even under his chef whites), he was only 4 foot 3 and he had a tattoo??? He was very professional and he led me around his kitchen and then shook my hands and let me wash all the pans. I left feeling a little undercooked but I think I will get over it. My followers back home were so jealous that I had met hairy Tony and been to USA. I’m now the president of the club and get to wear the golden wig. Happy days!!More

It has a nice atmosphere and is fairly roomy inside. I had the baseball steak after seeing such a cut featured on a cooking show. I was looking forward to trying it. I ordered it medium rare and it came out with a nice pink...color. I was surprised at how tough, stringy and chewy the steak was. They even had sliced it for presentation but it was still a bit tough to cut. My wife ordered the chicken philly but got the steak Philly. She didn’t mind and just kept quiet. Overall she said her food was good. The fried pickles were excellent and came out super hot temp wise. I would get those again without any hesitation. My son got a large Cobb salad and it was gigantic! He enjoyed it very much. I wouldn’t cast this place aside, I would go back again and just try something different. You really feel bad for all the restaurants and shops along that street because the City is having work done on the roads and utilities. It is ridiculously rough and parking is very hit and miss. Again this is not any fault of the restaurant and it might even warrant giving them some grace during the construction. I can only imagine that crowd expectations are way off and ordering supplies must be a nightmare. Just one person’s opinion, so give them a try for yourself!More

To start they advertise the best steaks in town. They only have sorloin steak and it was $33 . The French onion soup was sour and tasted like it was made with vinegar. The beef stroganoff also tasted like it was made with vinegar. Usually it...is in a light cream sauce, this was in a heavy very dark sauce.More

It was a nice place, but the atmosphere was too casual to suit me. On the other hand, this is Cortland, and the entire city is rather casual. It is a college town in a rural part of Central New York, but the college students...were off on a break. It was a matter of luck that I found a convenient parking space on the street. The crosswalk was timed for 30 seconds. I had been driving all day, so was ready for a decent meal, and I got one. I was happy to be seated in the front, next to the plate glass window, so it was not too noisy. I do not remember whether they had music. I prefer quiet restaurants without music. The service was good, and so was my single mixed drink. The food was good, too. However, my tab, including the tip, was over $65.More

This place deservedly is rated top notch. We arrived late on a holiday evening and were seated for a fantastic meal and excellent choices of beverages. Large assortment of draft beer. My creamy New Orleans Pasta dish was huge and delicious, full of spicy chicken,...shrimp and sausage. The other dish was a generously filled trio of haddock tacos. Prices excellent. Heidi, our server was outstanding, friendly and helpful. Cortland will now be our to go place when on the road to Canada from Long Island thanks to easy highway access to the Holiday Inn Express and to Hairy Tony’s! Next time I will buy one of their cool T- shirts.More

I am from NYC and I stumbled upon this place taking my daughter for a SUNY college tour last year. The moment I sat down after my long drive and had a Cobb salad and I was highly impressed. Not only is the establishment so...relaxing and clean, the food was outrageous. I've never tasted such fresh ingredients in such a small town before. The service I had was impeccable. My daughter chose to go to the school and we came back the following year after moving her in. The place was absolutely packed. The manager could not have been nicer and sat us promptly after telling us the wait was about 15 minutes. They were short staffed that day and they never missed a beat. The burgers were cooked perfectly and the service was attentive and friendly. We went back a month later for a quick visit with my daughter and we had the best short rib udon that I have ever tasted in my life. The meat was tender and perfect and the peanut sauce was not overwhelming. They do modifications on their menu as well and have a great vegan selection. Our server, Trista, was wonderful and we could not be happier with this place. I wish I had photos of the food, but it was so delicious it did not last long. Aside from seeing my daughter, after a 3 hour drive. this place is the highlight of my visit.More

Instead of leaving negative review I'd like to leave what this place needs to do! This place COULD be awesome but isn't. First impression upon entering was WOW, super cool spot. It s nice pub for sure however... the menu needs changing big time and...the service...just not good. Shepherds pie was ordered...this is NOT shepherds pie, its a french onion mystery soup? with garlic knots? wrong combo..steak was highest price on menu and it wasn't good. Alcohol not ordered no comment. You must get a professional in to help you with the menu/service and you WILL have a goldmine. Your patrons sitting outside the front door smoking is not acceptable. Non smokers cannot sit outside and eat or enter/exit without walking into smoke? You need a designated area far away from the front door. They don't do that here on LI ..ever! Kinda shocking to me. So # 1 get a pro in to consult on menu change/upgrade/train servers correctly and smokers should never be smoking outside the front door and specially in the eating area. Good Luck, I believe you have an opportunity to really be the best hotspot around.More

First meal there was great……Second meal sucked! #1, French Onion Soup, warm to taste and asked for it to be reheated. I thought I tasted basil in the soup, too much , # 2, Skirt steak sandwich ($18.50) , asked for it to be meduim,...came more on the rare side. the hoagie bun was cold as if was just taken out of the cooler….how about heating the bun too. Onion rings…..really 6, it’s a staple item. Kicker of the whole thing on our first experience, the owner and I had a conversation regarding these issues and I appreciated the good hot meal. Maybe the cooks were hung over from Friday night, P.S. don’t be the first customers for an early lunch.More
