We Love Dougs

We eat at Doug’s Fish Fry multiple times when we are visiting family in Syracuse. Doug’s has the BEST fish sandwich and the service can’t be beat. Their location near Skaneateles lakes is ideal too!

Another meal before a play

Once again EXCELLENT. Large portions, reasonable prices, friendly staff on visit, oil changed daily and like others LOVE DOUG'S. It has the best fish and again the service is excellent. Due to covid have not dined there and now frequently with picnic tables outside to dine on nice days. Only wish they have others but love the Cortland Doug's. Someday we will try the traveling Doug's. The Skaneateles one does not have meals but that would be our only complaint. We will dine there quite often now since covid. % stars!

A rare restaurant experience: all food freshly made on premises!

We've been increasingly disappointed when eating out at how many restaurant meals rely upon food provided by a service like Sysco instead of prepared in-house. Fish fry restaurants are an upstate NY "thing", so on this visit back to my husband's old stomping grounds, we were delighted to find out about Doug's. We ordered from a touch screen menu and waited about 15 min. for our meal. The piece of fish was enormous served with a large order of hot French fries and a 8 oz. sized cup of coleslaw. I was pleasantly surprised after my first bites of slaw to realize that it was freshly made. I was even more pleasantly surprised that the tartar sauce was, too! My husband and I agreed that we'd hit the jackpot on this one!

First time back in a while.

I was a long time customer but because of COVID I have not been in a while. I will not be back again in a while. We tried to call ahead and they didn’t answer. When we got there for a pre-lunch time order they were slow, not organized. While there, 30 minutes waiting to order and waiting for my order, they didn’t answer the phone, it was ringing continuously. The cook was not checking food temperatures, place fries on plates and then wait to put fish on and send them to be wrapped. Also saw plates with fish that sat to a while waiting for fries (unorganized) . Drove home 5 minutes away and food was cold.

First Visit In A While

Haven’t been to Doug’s in a while and was disappointed. Ordered fish sandwich and fish dinner with onion rings. Took a very long time. Went up to counter and they had given our onion rings to someone else by mistake: so our fish was sitting there getting cold. Thought I was eating a batter sandwich; the fish was so thin and batter was very thick. Not at all like it used to be. Staff was disorganized, calling people’s names and then not having the food ready. Fish sitting and getting cold waiting on fries or rings. Bill was $36. Will not be back

O.K. Food & Very Casual

We’re in Cortland twice each month. Once in a while we “treat” ourselves to fried food and Doug’s is nothing but. Fried fish, fried chips, fried onion-rings, fried chicken, and, if you’re lucky, the best dish they make, fried oysters. It’s not a restaurant (no table service) but it’s eatable. The cole-slaw’s not bad at all.

We recently visited Doug’s Fish Fry in Cortland NY and it was as good as always. I personally had the scallops lunch plate. It was a nice portion of fried scallops and two sides. I chose cabbage salad and onion rings. It was delicious. Take out only is available at this time because of The Covid19 virus. We will return!

Best Fish Fry Anywhere

Family operated restaurants that serve outstanding haddock fish fry’s. Most restaurants portion sizes have been going down the last few years but not Doug’s. Each meal is cooked fresh. The haddock always cooked perfect and flaky with light battering. Oversized portion of hand cut fries and Doug’s actually provides a very large portion of homemade cole slaw unlike so many restaurants that give you a tiny tiny portion of slaw. We go to Doug’s in Cortland often and always have a fantastic meal served by friendly people in a casual clean atmosphere.

Tuesdays!

I drive down from Onondaga County only on Tuesdays for clam strips. I have learned to get just the portion instead of the dinner with fries (too many) or onion rings (too many), since that way you get a big plate full of yumminess. I always have to get cole slaw to go for my neighbor.

Another visit and excellent as usual! Plenty of paved parking, easy access, very clean (even restroom) very personnel young staff, several inside seating with outdoor seating with nice weather. Large portions, reasonable prices, etc. and as usual a GREAT lunch for fish food. As usual, WILL RETURN another day!

Once again extremely pleased. Plenty of paved parking, ample inside and outside seating, reasonable prices, young staff but efficient, generous portions and onion rings to die for. We always dine there before going to plays at Little York and ALWAYS PLEASED. Never disappointed with meal or service. As always we will dine there again.

Grilled Shrimp Sandwich

I'm a returning customer but had the grilled shrimp sandwich for the first time. What a great sandwich! My trouble was keeping all the shrimp in the roll. I also had the onion rings and that was a huge helping! A very happy customer!!

Large servings!!!

Great fish and large servings. Not much else to say other than you’ll be sorry if you don’t try it out.I had the onion rings, which are fresh made and cole slaw. My wife had the fish and Mac & cheese and said her food was also good. They seemed to be super busy but fast! Will definitely go back next time in Cortland, NY
