Great view, but meal was just OK

The place is big and got a very nice view. The waitress was very attentive, friendly and quick. Meal was OK. For the price they charge, I didn't think it was anything special.

About five years ago, the Anthenaeum Hotel had a spotty culinary record but about three years ago, they hired a marvelous chef who is creative and innovative. This has resulted in wonderful dishes. There is also a fairly new after theater menu that includes sliders, ceviche and other tapas like dishes, all excellent. The ambience of the Athenaeum cannot be... More

It has a dress code, basically business casual, no shorts or jeans. Well they didn't enforce it. It is loud and cafeteria ambiance, so I don't know why they have a dress code. The buffets are average, nothing really impressive. The menu was also just average. The service was lacking, our 2nd night waiter didn't seem to know what he... More

Gracious outdoor seating on a lovely verandah with a view of the lake. Choices appropriate for the season and tasty. Service a little slow, but this is a resort hotel. Very enjoyable setting

The service was slow, & after our food came, the waiter never checked in with us again. The food was o.k., but certainly not worth the price.

Almost family style seating for the breakfast buffet. Nice buffet including an omelette station. Everything else was in a chafing dish. Great service for beverages. The kitchen carried soy milk

My husband had a long-bone pork chop with apple sauce and roasted cauliflower & asparagus medley with caesar salad and stuffed mushrooms to start. I had shrimp cocktail, veal schnitzel with mushroom gravy, creme fraiche mashed potatoes and corn pudding. Both dinners were supurb, and I was ready to cry that there was no way to save the leftover schnitzel,... More

This is a lovely venue, overlooking Lake Chautauqua (of course). We came in late, when they should have been closing. There is usually a pop show on Friday nights in season and that night it went way over. The staff was extremely gracious -- there were a few other guests -- and seated us at a great table on the... We almost didn't eat here because it is a bit pricey but are very glad we did. We ate on the patio with a great view of the lake. I had a special - the macaroni and cheese with lobster and bacon ($27). It was really excellent. For sides I had herb-roasted mushrooms and French fries. The fries were nothing... More

The food is only so-so but the ambiance is fantastic. Dining overlooking the lake, on their great big Victorian porch, is a real treat.
