This restaurant is in Athenaeum Hotel which Chautauqua Institute owns. I are with Road Scholar folks but of course individuals are there too. Decor is average but they do have a "community table" for guests who have nobody to eat meals with. There is also outdoor eating. The breakfast buffet was my favorite meal because you could order an omelet... More

Travis hit his stride this year with a selection of delicacies delivered in an historic location overlooking the beautiful lake. What a breakthrough! His lobster bisque may be the best I've ever tasted. The tapas are terrific and the full dinners nearly magnificent. We may indulge a third time this summer, not typical for us, but the food and company... More

Sadly, beyond the unexplainable and inexcusable poor, really poor service, the food is cafeteria quality at best. The view is lovely, but does not make up for the over priced, frustrating experience. Save your money and walk the grounds to Bestor plaza for food.

There were 8 of us who visited Chautauqua Institute for the day and evening. We made advance reservations and were seated in at a table on the patio with a splendid view of the Lake and grounds. Service was okay, one of our party repeatedly had to ask for their beverage to be served, the rest of us were served,... More

Ate here several times while staying at the hotel for a few days. The view is the best part about the restaurant, especially if you can eat on the terrace. Food was generally good, but service overall was terrible. They should basically stick to buffet or hire wait staff that has some idea of how to serve. We noticed that... More

If you are staying on grounds at Chautauqua, make sure to stop in for a meal. If you want to eat on the porch where you will have an amazing view of the lake, arrive early or late. It's very hard to get a table on the porch and they do not take reservations for the porch. My favorite things... More

About five years ago, the Anthenaeum Hotel had a spotty culinary record but about three years ago, they hired a marvelous chef who is creative and innovative. This has resulted in wonderful dishes. There is also a fairly new after theater menu that includes sliders, ceviche and other tapas like dishes, all excellent. The ambience of the Athenaeum cannot be... More

The place is big and got a very nice view. The waitress was very attentive, friendly and quick. Meal was OK. For the price they charge, I didn't think it was anything special.

It has a dress code, basically business casual, no shorts or jeans. Well they didn't enforce it. It is loud and cafeteria ambiance, so I don't know why they have a dress code. The buffets are average, nothing really impressive. The menu was also just average. The service was lacking, our 2nd night waiter didn't seem to know what he... More

Gracious outdoor seating on a lovely verandah with a view of the lake. Choices appropriate for the season and tasty. Service a little slow, but this is a resort hotel. Very enjoyable setting
