T was in 1966 that the Sammys's Fishbox story began; From our very humbe beginnings in 1966 we have grown from a 26 seat snack bar to a 500 seats, full service restaurant; preparing upwards of 1 million meals annually. Our phenomenal growth has been most gratifying to us. Since the beginning we believe some things are as true today as they were years ago; quality attracts customers, value earns respectand compromise in either is inappropriate. Our formula is very simple; we serve the best quality food prepared fresh daily in a uncompromising manner and served in generous portions at affordable prices. Portion sizes are outrageous— our family actually found it to be wasteful and a real turnoff. Everything is over the top. Menu is huge and overwhelming. Prices are crazy ($30 for fish and chips?!) Complimentary bread/veggie platter was enough to be a meal in itself. I actually had to laugh watching the servers run around with huge bread platters on each arm with steak knives skewered into the loaves of bread with hunks of yellow cheese attached. Looked like something you’d expect to see at one of those medieval times restaurants. The food served to our family of three could have fed a family of six easily. I might not have minded if the food was spectacular—but it was just okay. I much prefer restaurants that have smaller menus and smaller portion sizes, but focus on quality. Won’t be back.

The people were very nice and helpful thruout. We had two different style lobsters
a steamed and a baked stuffed which were both excellent (and we've visited Maine often). Everything they brought out with the meal (corn bread, Italian loaf, salad, corn, fries) were exceptionally tasty.
It wasn''t cheap but it was an excellent value - and desserts each were enough for
two.

OMG... the food is crazy good! If you are a seafood lover then Sammys restaurant is the place to visit. It is the place for a seafood lover surrounded by a lake. There is Sammys fishbox, Sammys shrimpbox and Sammys seashore restaurant. Before I food arrived we were served with two types of bread, butter, cheese, ice relish tray with olives. Yum! And thank you to our waiter Jimmy.

We decided to order today because they were accepting online orders and thought it’s a great way to support the business and community. That was the worst idea.
We ordered @1:30 pm today it is now 5:25 and I am told they can’t give me any information on my order status.
I asked to cancel the order, I was then told they can’t do that either. I asked to speak with a manager, they worker had the worst attitude and said they are very busy and have no time. Plane me on hold and never came back .
I told her I understand i understood this is not normal circumstances. So if they can give me a pick up time then just cancel my order because I live 1 hour away, that didn’t matter to her. She said I can’t help you.
Really. Is this how they treat customers..
don’t order from these people. The service is horrible extremely terrible.

On any other occasion I had with Sammy’s I have always loved it. During the Pandemic I ordered via the App and traveled from NJ to the Bronx to pick up the food. When I arrived there was a small line that wasn’t moving and after standing there for a while asked if I should be standing there if I placed my order online. I was told no however go to the window behind me and ask if my order was ready. I was met by a Chinese male with a nasty attitude. He asked if I received a phone call and I said no. He said wait for the call. Before I could answer he closed the window. I tapped and he took his time to come back. My question was, can you check because I did get a call from an unknown number. Turns out the order was there. There was never no instructions given on where to pick up the order and the upon looking inside the bag my two dishes were on top of one another with no covers just paper. In this Pandemic they are not safely packing the food and two orders of the same shrimp dish one came with a pickle and the other without. I’m done with this place

The worst experience so far. I’ve been here before but never had I experienced bad customer service as such. When we arrived we were seated and although it was heater in the tented area it was freezing cold. There was only two heaters and not to mention the wait for the food was half hour. After receiving our food mines was cold we told the waiter and he replied we have to walk with the food from a block always😠. I was floored I couldn’t even eat it just with the whole experience I was ready to go. We packed the food and we asked for the check. Only to find out they only accept chip cards. My husband had to walk outside around the corner to ATM. Never will I go here again. $120 was a waste I want my money back....

I'm not one to write bad reviews but when a hostess gets disrespectful, it just ruins the whole experience. I understand we were a goup of 12 and it isn't allow to sit that many people together but we were willing to compromise if we sat near each other. The hostess said it'll take 1:30 hours for us to get tables near each other, ok no problem other resturants had very long lines too. So she keeps coming out and takes everyone around us including a group of 12 people? We decided to compromise and we split groups. Then, she tells us only 6 people can sit together? At that point, it was coming off as if she was doing this on purpose. Then she said, no tables near each other. My group sits down far across from the other group, I mean complete opposite corners. Guess what, we look around multiple empty tables but she said she can't change us at that point because they are reserved for other people? No reservation required if anyone wants to know, pass 4PM. The waiter was good, food amazing but hostess from hell. FYI, her name is Maria.

I probably had one of my worse meals at Sammy’s. My wife & I ordered baked clams & calamari for appetizer. Calamari was soft & chewy. Then we ordered Stuffed Shrimp with crab Meat. The shrimp and crab meat very rubbery. It must have been frozen, before cooked. Even corn on the Cobb was soft, must have been sitting for a long time, before being served.

We had never been to City Island so decided to go and we found Sammy's. We fell in love with it as soon as we walked in. The salad was fresh, the complimentary bread was good and the staff very friendly. The main courses were delicious and we had enough to eat and to bring home. Waiting time for food was okay. They also have valet parking nearby and a nice view of the Long Island sound is a short walk away.

nitemare getting to city island between the traffic and crazy drivers.
Seriously the food isnt great and is seriously over priced, the small portions. staff unimpressive. they should get a new chef
not worth the time or effort to commute not to mention a waste of money, place should have shut down years ago

We were looking for a seafood restaurant over the weekend and were exploring City Island and stopped in here. All the employees were so nice and service was quick and friendly. You get served a lot of food, portions and very large. The meal starts with a platter of vegetables and two types of bread and some cheese. The bread was very good. The meals we had were delicious and we had lots of leftovers. Great beach atmosphere!

I love Sammy’s. You will get top quality seafood. The king crab legs and fried shrimp is amazing. Service is always great. Just plan to spend $$$ if you want to indulge. The takeout is great also. They have an app now. The best time to go is Mon-Thurs. it’s packed on weekends and in the summer...if you can even get on City Island with the traffic (in the summer.)

Had the pleasure of dining here the other night. Could not have had a better experience for my 1st time eating out during the pandemic. All servers were fantastic! Our waitress, Janice was great! The food was plenty and wonderful! Sammy's outdoor setup is beyond what I imagined. Sorry to see some of the negative reviews. We were a small party, we were seated right away & the service was excellent. With the pandemic, there are so many rules set in place for dining. Our experience was a very positive one. SAMMYS ROCKS!

Worth a trip down from Costa Rica. Fresh quality, courteous staff.
Food quality really outstanding. Size serving is impressive, no other way to describe it.
Environment around the restaurant was very friendly and cheerful.
Spacious parking in front of the restaurant.
Nothing but compliments to this concept.
