We recently moved to Putnam County and wondered whether we could find good Indian food. A local suggested Jaipore in Brewster (take-out only right now). We ordered several items. We worried because it was a lot farther from our home than expected. From the time...we ordered until we sat down to eat (we were told it would take 45 minutes), at least 90 minutes had passed. Despite that, it was some of the best Indian food we have had in a very long time. We ordered Mulligatawny Soup, Chana Saag, Baigan Barta, Shrimp Biryani, plus mango chutney, extra pappadum, and pickle. Portions were more than generous. The spices were complex and delicious. I haven’t had pickle that good since I was last in Bangalore. Even the pappadum seemed to be freshly made. We’ll be back!More

My wife and I love coming here. We are very happy we don't have to travel far to have good Indian food as a "treat". The food is great as well as the service. I love the location, an old boarding house I believe.

Went there with British friends who came from a town known for large Indian population and associated eateries. Their comment was that it was some of the best Indian cuisine they have had since coming over from the UK. They also said that previously the...food was not as good as this time, so I can only assume that a previous reviewer pretty much was spot on with the comment it depended on who the owner or chef was at any given time. The location is easy enough to get to, with ample parking. The address says Rte 22, but the building is on a road called King Lane, which in little more than a private access road that serves only the restaurant. My suggestion would be to use the southern most entry, as it is a "friendlier" entry point to the parking area. We ordered 2 chicken dishes, dahl, and an okra dish, all of which were very well prepared and tasty, with a slightly different flavor profile than I am used to for these dishes. One of the imported Indian beers was not available, sometimes that happens, but several of our choices for entrees were also not available, which gave me the impression that the menu is a catch-all, and if the chef of the day is not learned in that preparation, the offering is just "not available tonight". All in all, it was a good evening and if you are up for an interesting drive along what was once a country road, its worth the trip.More

We absolutely love this Indian restaurant, it's as authentic as being in India and the staff along with the owners are such kind people. No wonder the NYT rated it a top Indian restaurant to visit outside of the city. The food is delicious! We...are regulars...More

We have been here a couple of times. The staff is always friendly and the food is delicious. The place itself doesn’t feel as clean as you may want but I definitely would not call it dirty. Definitely recommend.

Serves mediocre Indian food...look around and see how many Indians show up to realize that the quality, taste and authenticity of food isn’t there for this place to be popular among the Indian people. Not worth the price to go and eat mediocre Indian food....So many better options to try out for the same price range. Save yourself the hassle and expense & spend money elsewhere.More

We went for a family get-together on a Sunday. Sunday lunch buffet was what I was advised was the best time to go. There was a sign on the front door that warned people to be careful of ice on the property. This I found...to be kind of strange, as the restaurant is responsible and should take care to put proper amounts of salt around so nobody falls. The owners need to be reminded that if someone falls, it's not the customer's fault, it's the owner's liability. The interior of the restaurant is lovely. It's painted in some wonderful, bright colors and the house itself is a Victorian mansion, so it's kind of like you're eating in someone's house, which is charming. Food was wonderful. Varieties were plentiful and everything was hot. There were a group of us and our main complaint was that the rice pudding ran out 25 minutes before brunch ended. I asked if they could make some more and the staff said no. They said they had none and wouldn't be able to have any available until dinnertime. Really? Rice pudding is something cheap and easy enough to make that they should have a quantity on hand for busy times. People in our party who wanted dessert were disappointed, and as paying customers, they shouldn't leave a restaurant with that feeling. I would go again. I recommend the Sunday brunch.More

My family group has been meeting at Jaipore several times a year for over 10 years. I really feel that the quality of the food has gone downhill. I used to order a shrimp dish and it was always served with jumbo shrimp. On a...recent visit I had to search through the Shrimp Jalfrezi to find the shrimp. The onion naan was very greasy and didn’t have enough onions. Our group used to rave about the food. Now we talk, but not about the food.More

The buffet always has a wide selection of tasty vegetable and meat dishes. Seasoning is perfect - not too hot but distinctive. The cauliflower dish is my favorite. Large old house with dining nooks for privacy. A favorite for gathering with friends.
