We did not dine in, but ordered take out pizza, Which was ready when promised and delicious! We would not hesitate to patronize Cate's again - in side or take out!

We were exploring the area & decided to try Cate’s. It seemed like this was the main street in town. There were other restaurants, stores, ice cream & access to the park. We had the”local favorite “ lasagna & the chicken parmigiana . Both meals...were fine. What got me was that a salad wasn’t included with the meal. I know it’s a tourist area but a small salad included with an Italian dish would have been nice. We did sit outside on the patio which was very nice because we could hear music playing from across the street.More
We are locals and on occasion venture out into the tourist areas. I have to say that we have been disappointed all summer long with overpriced mediocre food. So, Cate’s has been a longtime restaurant in Bolton so we decided to go with something that...has withstood the rest of time. It’s a Monday so there was a quieter atmosphere which we chose on purpose rather than a weekend evening. There were 2 hostesses who were both very pleasant. There didn’t seem to be need a need for 2 hostesses as the restaurant both inside and outside was very quiet and many unoccupied tables. We both ordered a Chianti from the “wine by the glass”menu and it was disappointing. Definitely not a wine I would order again. Our waiter was engaging and pleasant, however the hostess and cook called him “Nick” and he kept introducing himself as “Nicola”. Definitely was trying too hard to pull off some kind of “Italian heritage Shtick” when he was pleasant enough without trying to be “faux Italian”. But what really matters to us the quality of the food. My boyfriend ordered the chicken parmigiana. I knew from the moment it arrived that it was going to be terrible. The chicken looked like the US food truck delivered frozen cutlets from the warehouse and it was thrown on top of a dry bed of pasta that was in need of much more sauce. The chicken was also cut much too thick. It tasted as disappointing as it looked. I had the lasagna which I enjoyed. It’s presented on the the menu as “Buddy’s secret recipe” and a local favorite. It definitely has a unique flavor that we tried to decipher as we ate. It’s either in the sausage (maybe fennel), or some nutmeg in the sauce. I was satisfied with the lasagna and it was good. The bread was basic, but it was a nice addition to our entrees. The days of a house salad being included in an Italian meal are long gone, so we can’t speak to that as we didn’t order anything else. Overall, the fact that Cate’s presents as an “Italian specialty “ restaurant, it was even more disappointing that they can’t put out better Italian food. The prices however seemed very reasonable which made the disappointing food a little more bearable.. This was another disappointment in our quest to find a decent meal with a reasonable price during the tourist season in hometown area.More
This was our second time visiting Cate’s. Loved it the first time and came back with family. Did not disappoint. Great service, big portions and delicious meals. Definitely a great choice. Highly recommend.
Read other reviews and anticipated a good Italian meal, instead we got pretend Italian food. We received only 2 of the 4 appetizers we ordered, the soups never were served. The gnocchi were overcooked and quite mushy. The kids ravioli consisted of 3 ravioli at...a cost of $12, certainly not going to fill a hungry child. The chicken parm had no flavor n actually tasted as if it had been frozen n then cooked. I was totally disappointed and for the price would not recommend this dining establishment.More
Good service. Good food. We ordered the meatballs, ricotta and garlic bread for a starter. The large meatballs were a bit spicy but very tasty combo of meat with chunky tomato sauce. Cates pizzas are also delish. We ordered a white pizza with broccoli and...sausage.More
The atmosphere is very nice, the staff is very friendly and the food is very good BUT - we ordered the calamari app and the sauce that came on the side was cold. The bread brought to the table was stale. Everything else was very...good but those two things were so disappointing - if Cate's pays better attention to smaller things, they'll be 5 star.More
We arrived in Bolton Landing, NY a little later than expected but found Cate's open and accommodating to our group of nearly 20 diners (we did give them an hour's notice before we arrived). Even though it was close to closing time they welcomed us...warmly, were patient with our late arrival, and served wonderful food. \ The lasagna was the best I have ever eaten at a restaurant and the serving was more than adequate (I couldn't finish the whole thing). Others in our group had ossobuco and salmon. Everyone was pleased with their meal and the service. We will return to Cate's when we go to Bolton Landing next year.More
Been going there for years when in town. Never cared much for the attitude, this time though, telephone rudeness was over the top. Totally felt disrespected. The lady who took the reservation over the phone should not be tending to a business phone. That's the...first encounter with the establishment, should be welcoming and show thankfulness for having chosen that place of business to patronize. Will have to think really hard about going back.More
Cannot go wrong with food and staff. Must try the pizza. Have been going here for decades and always have fresh and delicious food.
My husband had the Osso Buco and loved it. Kids had penne a la vodka with shrimp and the gnocchi with pesto. I had the Harvest Salad with salmon. The salmon was dry but tasty. While the salad tasted good it was overly sweet for...me because of the cranberries, candied pecans and maple walnut dressing. We did enjoy it and we would return.More
We were a walk in on a Sunday night and immediately seated. We started with the meatball appetizer, which was fantastic. The three large meatballs were the perfect consistency and super tasty. We shared the salmon, which was cooked perfectly. The sauce was just right...and did not overpower the salmon. Our waitress was very attentive as well. I highly recommend Cate’s. Bring a big appetite.More
Stopped at Cate’s for an early dinner on Saturday. Everyone was very friendly and we were seated at a nice table outside. My husband and I had already looked at the menu ahead of time, but after hearing the specials, we both decided on one...of those. We started with the antipasto, which was probably the best we have ever had. I had the monk fish with mushroom risotto and my husband had the scallop scampi with polenta. Both were delicious, and the chef even stopped by our table to see how we were enjoying our meals. The only downside is that we live 3 hours away and can’t make this our new favorite place. Will definitely be back whenever we are in the area.More
The staff was awesome and the food was superb. Great atmosphere, warm and friendly hostess and great menu. We ate here three times during a five day trip!
Went with friends who were visiting and was told a 45minute wait(rain)We asked hostess if they had a bar and she said yes. Its empty then owner came over to her and whispered "tell them there's no room" and waved us off with her hand....She seemed embarrassed. I walked into bar and there was 1 old blonde hair drunk man sitting there who I believe was also a owner. It seemed they didn't like the way we looked. Only 2 waitresses who were overworked. We needed to eat so we did.2 pizzas 2 pitchers of beer 2 glass wine $250 with tip. Pizza is good for upstate pizza.never make it in the city.More
In response to your multiple complaints, as I feel THIS review certainly deserves my reply. I am, Cate, the owner of Cates. I spoke to my staff about what you claim as such a negative experience at the restaurant. Of course, I had to ask...More
