This place is the true definition of soul food. The pork chops were fried to perfection. The corn bread and sweet potato pie were excellent. My grandson had his favorite...French fries and Mac n cheese. He said it was delicious. Visit this establishment. You won't...be disappointed. Hats off to the owners.More

Counter Needs to Brush Up On Customer Service Hopefully the owner will read this and take notice. Ms. Barbara is sweet as pie, literally. But speaking from one Black Woman to another, not all Black women hired as help (whether family or not) and working...the counters offer friendly service (possibly the reason why the restaurant was totally empty when I walked in at 4 PM on a fine Saturday afternoon.) With 3-4 slices of French Vanilla cake (which is delicious BTW) remaining in the glass case I asked the West Indian woman working the counter if the owner planned to put out an additional, and possibly different flavor, she replied ‘I never know when the cakes are being put out….it’s a random thing’. I said ‘Oh ok because when I’ve come in the past and the owner has seen the cakes low I’ve seen her put out a whole new cake’ The woman quipped ‘Well not if she’s doing deviled eggs, she doesn’t’’. Who says that? I was through at that point and said nothing else to this woman. She was rude and sarcastic and her attitude was certainly not reflective of the service that my family and I have encountered whenever we visit this long-standing establishment in Beacon. I will always be back, hopefully this woman has the day off when I return. SmhMore

Went to BJs for breakfast and loved it. I had scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon, home fries, and toast. The food was great and served like we were family. In particular, the home fries are really good…buttery and seasoned just right. Leave your diet at...the door. This breakfast was worth it!More

We liked the casual atmosphere and the simple, home-made dishes at BJ's Restaurant. The staff were super friendly, and even though there was only one server on the floor and several tables were already taken, we were served relatively quickly. We tried the split pea...soup and the short ribs were delicious and cooked perfectly! We left feeling satisfied and happy, and that's how you want your customers to leave. We will be back!More

It's a family friendly establishment with the good old comfort feel. I had been planning a visit and went last Sunday. I ordered pancakes with 2 eggs (scrambled) and crisp bacon. We served ourselves at the counter for coffee. My companion had the salmon cakes,...grits, scrambled eggs and toast. Once our orders were prepared, the owner brought it out. They were very friendly and it felt like we were regulars. The place is clean, well maintained and the other patrons were regulars. It just is a great environment with great food and better people, we loved it.More

My husband and I were passing through after a stressful business meeting. He pulled over when he saw a sign for Fish & Chips. We walked in and were treated like new friends. The food is down home comfort food and is just great. Everything...is homemade on site and it tastes the way I wanted mom to cook (but never did).More

We had a great comfort food meal at BJs, and were warmly greeted when we entered the restaurant. While there we noticed that most of the customers who came in were greeted by name and they all seemed to know each other. If you want...to eat with the locals, this is the place. There are also soul food items on the menu.More

This was our first taste of 'soul food', and we LOVED it!. The home cooked meal and warm welcome we received was such a humbling experience...it truly did hit our "soul". We really enjoyed the food, service, and atmosphere here. We felt a very welcome,...relaxed, and chill vibe. I have never had collard greens before and I was given a small plate to try (delicious!). The corn bread came out first while our food was being prepared (oxtail and pig feet) as everything is cooked to order. I wish we had discovered this place earlier in our stay as I would have wanted to return!More

We have walk by the place a few times and I always wanted to stop and try it. I am so sorry that I didn't try it sooner. The Restraunt is very plane and nothing stands out from outside nor the inside, these places tend...to have the best food. It wasn't crowd but that had few people in the restaurant took about 10 minutes to get menus but not a big deal. We just missed the breakfast but the lunch menu was very nice. I have fried shrimp and French fries,my daughter had waffles and chicken they and it came with two legs and a breast, my wife had the fried chicken dinner came with 4 pieces and two sides. The Marconi salad was pure southern heaven with tuna fish in it and fresh as could be. The chicken was freshly fried and crispy. The chicken was as good as N.C or better. The owner came over to the table after waiting about 25 minutes to ask us if it was are first time at the restaurant, to which we said yes she then apologized for the wait. She informed us they don't cook the food and then let it sit but cook only to order and she was sorry about the wait. I have to say after having the food it was worth the wait !!! The slice of cake the gave me for desert was large !! Can't wait to go back thank you for a fantastic lunch.More

I am white and have a friend who is black. She got me hooked on what she calls soul food. I LOVE it. Fried chicken, fried fish, sweet potoatos like I've never eaten before, collard greens, macaroni and cheese - the list just goes on....I stick with the same items because I know what I like. A little apprehensive to try something out of my comfort zone, but it's all fresh made and delicious.More
