We were staying in Hartwell House for 3 days and ate in the restaurant on both nights. On each occasion the food was of a very high quality with the lovely touches one expects from a high quality dining experience. The choice was pretty varied with a good range of options for all tastes and the wine list was extensive;... More

Had not been for a few years and wanted to try again. The House is impressive and the grounds look to be too. The hotel had passed on the message in advance regarding dietary restrictions so wait staff were aware. Service was excellent throughout - being pleasant and attentive After the amuse bouche we started with the excellent crab dish... More

We had dinner and breakfast as paying hotel guests. We enjoyed both and found staff polite and attentive on both occasions. Food was very good and we never felt rushed.

Beautiful estate but the rooms are extremely old fashioned and not very fresh-looking. I'm sure it was all luxurious in the 80s but now it just needs a complete refurbishment. Dinner was the biggest disappointment with high ambitions but in the end just an example of English boring food that tries to be something else

Merlin Waterson, architectural historian and author on heritage subjects recently wrote, “Hartwell is very different from most fashionable, luxury hotels. As a guest, it feels as though one is visiting a beautifully maintained private house which reveals its history in scores of subtle ways, through the architecture of different periods, the decoration and the pictures, many of which are relevant... My wife and I went to lunch there today 07/02 absolutely wonderful lunch definitely upmarket but worth every penny. This is the third time we have visited for lunch and twice for afternoon tea, not the sort of place you would visit every week but worth waiting for the right occasions.

My husband and I were given lunch at Hartwell House as a present, and we didn't know what to expect. The food was well crafted, the menu thoughtfully put together with either a choice of courses, or a set menu. It was beautifully presented, totally delicious, and something a bit special. The service was excellent from the staff - very... More

We were a party of four friends meeting for a Lunch at Hartwell House this week. We were wanting to choose a main course from the slightly more expensive Chefs menu on the right hand side of the folder we were offered. The waiter did not think this was possible but said he would ask. An under manager arrived and... More

The car park was quite full when we arrived. I was pleased to see the hill down to the hotel had been gritted. You can drop people off at the door. Upon arrival we were ushered through the Great Hall into a lovely lounge overlooking the gardens. We were immediately offered drinks which arrived promptly with nibbles and olives, shortly... More
