I have just paid £50 for two appetisers. It was meant to be two mains but the portion size was so small we have now ordered a Chinese to fill in the gaps. Don't get me wrong, what we had was lovely but £25 for a small burger size steak three asparagus spears and a dollop of mash seems excessive... More

WE recently moved into the area, and this is a place that is within stumbling distance of home! Dritan, the Owner, is a Croat who was raised in Italy. I have eaten in some great restaurants around the world, including those owned by celebrity chefs, but the Chequers is a real find. Whilst the restaurant doesn't boast major awards (other... More

we came across this place by chance - having been let down by another restaurant who had a gas leak! It was Motogp weekend and my boyfriend''s birthday. We randomly chose this place and I am so glad for the gas leak. From the outset the service and friendliness was exceptional - even when we arrived much earlier than anticipated... More

We had Sunday lunch here, five adults and two children under one year old. There is a notice on the door to say they don't like buggies, wheels etc in the restaurant and we thought we would have a problem with the babies. However the staff could not have been friendlier and our babies were very well behaved. The food... More

Four of us had Sunday lunch here, choosing from the a la carte menu. Everyone was delighted with all three chosen courses. In particular, the lamb duo was exceptional. Not cheap, but the quality of the food is very good, and the dishes nicely presented. It's always nice for cheese lovers to be able to choose which cheeses go on... More

Superb birthday meal here with the family. Yes portions are not enormous and we would have liked to see home made bread served before the meal but the amuse bouche was a very nice touch and helps to set this place apart. It'd definitely not really a pub any more - it's a refined and stylish restaurant which is definitely... More

Enjoyed lunch from the a la carte. We had some tasty dishes and they were presented beautifully, with really attentive service (although not busy at the time so probably not a fair assessment). I think probably on the slightly pricey side for what you get but it is billed as 'fine dining'. We'll be going to try a Sunday lunch... More

My fiancé and I dined here for lunch yesterday for my birthday. He had steak and I had the fish pie. I had a slight concern about the prawns in my pie (they looked undercooked although didn't taste it). The chef kindly came to speak to me and explained the reason they looked grey was because of the squid ink... More

Great food, more expensive than your typical pub but wonderful for an occasion or special event. Course are smaller but pack with flavour
