Always go where the locals go and recommend. This restaurant is a gem, the service is wonderful and friendly staff all around. I went at lunch and it was very busy, not a problem for this group. My food came out quicker than I expected, and was it delicious. Ordered a quesadilla, said it came with chips and salsa (homemade) but also had rice and beans. The beast quesadilla I have ever eaten, made with two cheeses, green peppers, and fresh avocado. Forgot to mention, it even came with a sopapilla and honey butter. It also has a full bakery. Too full to try it but the pastries looked good.

Hi Ralph, Thank you so much for your fantastic review! We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed your lunch with us and that our team provided friendly and efficient service, even during a busy time. It’s great to know our quesadilla hit the mark for you—two cheeses, fresh ingredients, and that sopapilla make for a winning combination! We appreciate your kind words about our bakery as well; we’d love for you to come back and try those pastries next time. Thanks for recommending us, and we can’t wait to see you again soon!

Michael’s Kitchen was voted best for breakfast in Taos and this place fully deserves this recognition. There was a line when we stopped there on a Saturday morning but it moved fast. It has a large menu. My husband selected the pancakes with strawberries and sour cream and I had a bacon, tomato sandwich with added avocado. Both items were delicious and the busgirl was quick to refill our water glasses and coffee mugs. A great spot!

I grew up eating at Michael’s Kitchen and when I moved out of state- this place is what I crave when I come home. Best red chili hands down (aside from my own) hard working employees who are friendly and know what they are doing…. and, a staple in Taos. If there’s a line outside the door anywhere, especially here, that’s a sign that they got the good stuff! I’ll wait as long as I have to :). Maybe franchise to LA?

I'm beyond upset with the owner. We took a local 5th grade class and special education class there on a field trip and they made us feel so unwelcome and made comments about why do we keep going there. And saying rude remarks about students paying for their meals separately. They refused to seat us all together and then insisted that each individual table of kids have a chaperone with them. The owner was so rude that every single adult that was involved, is not only locals but also refuses to eat there ever again. This is a perfect example of why locals refuse to eat there anymore. RUDE RUDE RUDE This was supposed to be an educational experience for the children and we ended up regretting choosing to eat there. Any other food establishment would have treated us with respect as paying customers.

Walked in to buy a quart of their Green Chile with Tortillas to go… as we’ve been there several times on our trips to Taos and really liked their comfort food. Nothing wrong with the taste. It still tastes good. But from the moment I walked in, I felt the cold shoulder. And to add insult to injury, when I requested some accompanying tortillas, they said, “ we don’t give out tortillas” and when I then asked and insisted politely, reiterating that I’d be happy to pay for it… they reluctantly agreed and then ended up charging me EVEN MORE for some plain tortillas than the barely 32 ounces of the Chile. They could really use a trip to the charm school and some much needed training in hospitality and customer service. Needless to say, that’s the last time we’ll be going or recommending. SAD!!!

We have been going to and enjoying Michael's Kitchen for several years. After our first choice for a late breakfast/brunch had a 40 minute wait, we went into Taos and decided to check on an old favorite, Michael's. We found a space in the front at about 1:40 and when I saw a line I left my spouse in the car and went in to ask if we could still eat, knowing that they stopped serving at 2:00. I asked the employee (manager?) standing near the outside if we could still eat there, and he said that we would be the last ones. I told him that my wife was just outside in the car, and he said to hurry. She came in after I gestured to her, and we got in line. While in line, a woman employee came by and said to us that no more customers were allowed, and I said (and the people in front agreed) that we had just been told that we were the last ones allowed. She seemed upset, and left. After the people in front of us in the line were seated, the first employee came by and asked us we would sit at the counter, as they were about to stop serving. I had already seen several couples leave and that there were tables open, but we said yes. After a few minutes, he came by and said that he would take the order, and repeated that they closed at 2:00, and I reminded him that he had told us we would be the last ones in. He then took our order, and when the food arrived, we quickly ate it and were finished at shortly after two. While eating, we ignored the other customers still eating and the staff wiping down the tables and the one counter we were sitting at, but it was hard to ignore the glares we were getting from the staff, including those cooking the meals. Probably because we ate fast, when we left there were probably four or five tables still eating, and I have no idea whether the staff were rude to them as well. The food was fine, as we expected. Because my spouse grew up inTaos and we've been to Michael's numerous times over the last 25 years, we were not expecting the rude behavior from the staff. As we left, we noticed a nice little restaurant just up the street, looked at the interesting menu and the fact that it didn't close until 3:00, and decided we would try it next time instead of Michael's. After that rude behavior, we may decide to never use that gift certificate a relative had given us a few years ago.

We had a great brunch at Michaels. We were a little concerned about the wait but the line moved quickly. The food was fresh and delicious and the service was great even though they were crowded. The sopapillas were yummy and enchiladas were fresh and not greasy. Will definitely go back.

When we saw the long line for breakfast, I really didn’t want to wait. But the line moved pretty fast. We shared the poor man’s eggs Benedict—two eggs on an English muffin with ham, cheese and covered in red or green chile. I think the English muffin was toasted in a panini maker because it was flat and difficult to cut, even with a knife. Our poached eggs were cooked a little too long, but anything smothered in green chile gets five stars in my book. What was exceptional at Michael’s was the service. Since the pandemic, restaurants have been using Covid as an excuse for poor service. Not so with Michael’s. The hostess was constantly attentive and seated patrons as soon as tables were vacated. The bus person came by at least five times to refill water and coffee. The server came by promptly and took our order and actually checked back to see how things were. The service gets ten stars from me and that ain’t nothing nowadays. Although we didn’t try the bakery items, they looked very good.

Had a great breakfast at Michael’s, which seems to be a favorite with locals as well. The veggie omelette was large and stuffed with fresh vegetables and topped with a fresh avocado. Home fries were good as well as the coffee, which was extremely good. Michael’s has an outstanding bakery as well, and I highly recommend the bear claw, which is stuffed very full with almond paste. Friendly and efficient service. Plan to arrive early at the opening at 7am to be seated right away!

My son recommended this place to my wife and I for breakfast and we were not disappointed. When I walked in the door and saw the pastries, I knew this was the place I wanted to be. The waitress was very friendly and kept our beverages filled and of course you want to save room for a pastry, they are delicious !

Quickly seated. Professional and timely service. My French toast were excellent with whipped cream and strawberries. Just like mom used to make. Wife’s pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon were plentiful and deemed very good. Our friend’s breakfast meals were also deemed very good. Added bonus bakery offers tasty pastries.

We went for breakfast at lunch time. My wife has pancakes with bananas and strawberries and pecans and loved it I had a breakfast burrito. It was good. When they say smothered in red chilli they mean it. There was sooooo much sauce!! Only complaint is how long it took to get seated. I guess 11:30 is a really busy time.

Stopped in for breakfast with co-workers who went there for breakfast about every day we were in town for work. Had to wait in line to get in but it didn't take more than 10 minutes. Wait staff seats you at any open table no matter how many are in your party which seemed odd looking at 2 people seated at a table for 6 but it doesn't seem to matter. Food comes out quick and service is spot on with drink refills. I had the eggs Benedict and it was good. Different take but good. Did not try any bakery items but donuts and breads looked fresh. Definitely a one meal kind of day if you eat breakfast here.

I had eggs, hash browns, green chile (very tasty), toast and bacon. Very good. Wife ordered Frech Toast which again was excellent but consisted of 4 slices of toast, so way too much for her. The service was beyond approach. My coffee cup never went dry. WOW you need to see their bakery items to believe it.

Ate breakfast here a week ago. Seated quickly & service was fantastic. I wasn't sure how things would go because just about anywhere you have dinner in Taos, you'll wait & many times wonder if you'll be waited on or get your food or drink anytime soon. Not really the ppl's fault who are working, it's that many spots are short staffed. Not the case here. Food was great & staff fell over themselves taking care of you. A must hit.
