Tucked away a block west of the plaza, this vegetarian Israeli / Middle Eastern restaurant has the best falafel sandwich I've ever had. I'm usually not too keen on vegetarian food, but their big, spicy falafel sandwich blew me away! Closed early (around 5 pm) Monday to Thursday.

We were hot, tired and very hungry and El Gamal made us feel 100% better. This vegetarian restaurant offered a delicious lunch with something for everyone. Homemade pita bread was to die for. Our server was extremely helpful, quick and attentive in response to our " quick feed us" demands. The atmosphere leaves something to be desired it was nice... More

Not sure what plates I've had, but tried a few and they're all good! Just off the Plaza. Central location with really flavorful lunch entrees!

My husband and I had a lovely lunch here this past weekend. I had a beet salad with fresh greens and he had gazpacho which was flavorful. He also had a bagel which could be boring but was the best bagel we have eaten anywhere. We came back another night for desert with friends. I had cardamon cheese cake with... More

Some hits, a few misses but overall a good place to eat vegetarian in Taos. I enjoyed my dinner but not sure my companions did. Service was friendly. I would definitely go again.

The cuisine is Middle Eastern and Mediterranean based with some unique touches. Everything appeared fresh and was quite tasty. I had the sampler plus dessert so I had the opportunity to eat 4 dishes, and all were very good although slightly different from what I am accustomed to.

Stopped in for lunch with my husband and mother-in-law. We all got the sampler plate with a little different options on each. It was all VERY good! We bought a Challah to take home for Shabbat dinner that night and also enjoyed it very much!

Our server was very enthusiastic about this place, and that told me a lot. She carefully explained unfamiliar food items (like labane, a kefir-cheese spread) that were offered along with standards like dolmas, babaganoush, and hummus. I ordered the sample plate with five choices, and asked her to choose for me, which she was happy to do. Although it didn't... More

So I decided to take a side street in Taos, get off the well worn touristy paths. Glad I did. I ran into this gem of a place. Though I am not a vegan or vegetarian, I am a foodie; therefore I love good food, with or without meat. This place is just fantastic. I had a soup of turnip,... More

El Gamal has a large variety of options, all vegetarian. The spicy falafel sandwich I ordered was very tasty, and filling. Satisfying.
