Great Mediterranean/Middle-Eastern inspired dishes. Everything on the menu is vegetarian--we didn't even realize at first, because everything looked and sounded so good. We enjoyed all of the dishes that we tried!

creative, tasty, fresh - the perfect meal in the middle of lots of delicious but quite heavy New Mexican cuisine. We loved the soup of the day (tomato with mozzarella), the goat cheese falafel in pita, and the shakshuka. We came back again the next morning for breakfast and can vouch for a delicious cappuccino! Lovely atmosphere and very pleasant... More

Hidden west of the plaza, we never knew about this restaurant despite traveling through or staying in Taos many times. When you enter, you enter a time warp and it is 1970 again. A vegetarian middle eastern restaurant, the menu has falafels, many hummus dishes, very good bagels and other Israeli and Arab dishes. We had very good bagels—claimed to... More

I eat breakfast at El Gamal at least once a week. They serve great Middle Eastern food with several organic options. I am a vegetarian and so is their menu. But don't let that put you off. The fare here is heaty and delicious. Turkish and American coffee are available as well as chai and an assortment of cold drinks.... More

My husband and I love eating at El Gamal when we're out doing errands. It's a funky little oasis that is close to parking, and when you step inside you enter an oasis of great vegetarian food at reasonable prices. The turkish coffee is an excellent way to start or finish any meal. My favorite is the falafel sandwich with... More

We were in town for a couple of days and were fortunate enough to discover this gem of a restaurant in the heart of the city. As we arrived it was a quiet restaurant, but it quickly began to fill with locals and tourists. The menu is authentic cuisine with a wide variety of vegetables dishes. Their salads were large... So many times when going to a regular restaurant, you have to find the meatless option. This is a relaxed place in Taos that is just the ticket! Soup was great and hummus sandwich hit the spot!

Who would expect to find a great Middle Eastern restaurant in the middle of Taos? Yet that's what El Gamal is. This is not just your run of the mill hummus and falafel joint. The food is fresh and delicious, and the recipes are creative. On this visit, we had a special goat cheese falafel--a pita overstuffed with six tender... More

Yes, it's an "interesting" decor, but the food and service are excellent. If you've had enough New Mexican food this is a great place for felafel and other vegetarian delights. Portions are decent and the prices are right.
