The staff was super nice and accommodating. We were a party of 6 with a child. They accommodated a special request of a shrimp enchilada without blinking. Every meal includes a huge sopapilla w/honey for dessert. YUMMY! We visit Taos every year and this was our visit and it we will be back!

As hard as I try, I always order the same thing. The chicharron burrito is hands down, best I’ve ever eaten. This is a place we’ve eaten for years. The little chunks of crispy pork in the burrito is amazing! Then, when you think you couldn’t possibly eat one more bite, here come the sopapillas! The size of a plate, so save room. Hats off Ranchos de Plaza Grill, job well done!

When I'm out of the country and feeling homesick, this is the place I think about. Over and over. Of course when I return I make a dash for Ranchos. Now that the restaurant is not serving dinner (for lack of help) I've discovered their breakfasts, which are as New Mexican as their regular menu. My biggest addiction is the plate of blue corn enchiladas with cheese and red chile but someone at the next table has convinced me to order tamales next time. She said the masa was the best part of the tamales, which is a sign of excellence. The smoothness of the red chile suggests that it is made the old way, directly from red chile pods, rather than from ground red chile. We've become acquainted with Lester, one of the waiters who brings the menus, drinks, and chips. By the way, chips are optional and must be ordered - they don't automatically come with the meal. On the other hand, sopapillas always come.

Having read other reviews, I wonder if my husband and I happened on a bad night. The food was okay New Mexican. We both had chile rellenos. The red and green sauce was under-spiced, and the rellenos were overstuffed with cheese. The batter, however, was crisp and not soggy. The beans and rice sides were no better or worse than umpteen New Mexican places. The food was not overpriced, but I would disagree with reviewers who suppose it was a particular value. Perhaps the okay food would not have been as much a problem had we had felt welcome. We did not. Our server, apparently the or an owner, conveyed the attitude that were imposing on his time. I saw him convey a like attitude to some other tables, but not all. I wondered if the problem had to do with outsiders vs. locals. Regardless, I would not return.

We’re sorry if you had a bad experience with our server - just so you know he is not the owner but an employee. Out chef is the owner. As we know that we are not able to please everyone 100% - we are extremely proud of our product and menu. Also we do not discriminate against anyone and welcome everyone who enters our restaurant . Thank you for giving us a try. May you have a beautiful and blessed day!

We went to Ranchos Plaza Grill for a late (2 pm) lunch. We ordered two combination plates — one with two items, a cheese enchilada and a relleno; and one with three items, a cheese enchilada, a pork tamale, and a relleno. Both plates came out, but neither of us could find anything resembling a cheese enchilada. Instead, each plate had a huge pile of melted cheese that basically covered our beans. Neither of us could find anything that even resembled a tortilla that the cheese should have been in. We mentioned it to our waitress, who took our plates back to the kitchen. When she returned, she said the people in the kitchen said there was a tortilla that the cheese had been in, but she brought us a corn tortilla to go with the cheese. Needless to say, neither of us really accepted that as a cheese enchilada! It was a huge pile of melted cheese with a not-so-warm corn tortilla laying on top of it all. And neither of us ate the cheese. We ate the tortilla by itself. I personally felt like they should have just charged us for a one item plate and a two item plate since it was quite clear there was no cheese enchilada on either plate. We will probably not return to the restaurant next time we are in the Taos area. The one nice surprise was that they bring complimentary fried flour tortillas and honey to the table so that you can make your own sopapillas if you like, or you can just eat the fried flour tortillas as a bread.

Not the New Mexican flavor I hoped for. Food was average. Green chili sauce had little flavor and no heat. Service was average. Charge nearly $7.00 for chips and salsa

We've eaten in a lot of new mexican restaurants. The food we had last week at this restaurant was absolutely delicious. My husband and son thought the carne adovada was the best they've ever had. My daughter and I loved the stacked blue corn enchiladas. And my other daughter, who wasn't very excited about eating NM food, absolutely loved the stuffed sopapilla. The sopapillas with honey at the end of the meal were also especially good. We enjoyed eating on the patio out front.

This place has been around for a long time for good reason. We had been many years ago on a family ski trip, This time it was just my husband and I and we were both very pleased. The building is historic with lovely murals inside; we ate outside this time. There was a short wait which is always a good sign. That gave us the chance to admire and photograph the lovely San Francisco de Asis church which is next to it. Check it out too! We both ordered variations of blue corn enchiladas and liked them a lot. But the fun thing is the huge sopapilla that comes with each meal. You can eat it like bread as a side or do as we did and wait for the honey to arrive and enjoy it for dessert! Be aware, they do close early!

Excellent food! We thoroughly enjoyed every bite, the chips with guacamole and salsa was a delicious starter to the fajitas, enchiladas, tamales and chili relleno. Very good service, friendly staff and great decor. Will make it a point to eat here again if we get back to the area.

Stopped in for lunch after seeing St Francis Asís Church. Best traditional food we’ve eaten and we are very picky. The tortillas used for tacos were perfect (light, crunchy corn), the seasoning on everything — tacos, enchiladas, chille relleno, and tómales—were wonderful. They even provide the perfect finish with DELICIOUS sopapillas! The services was also outstanding. This could be my new Taos home.

The food was excellent. We ordered chips, guacamole and salsa to start. We had mix of blue and white corn chips. I always enjoy the blue corn chips as they are not that common. My wife ordered the stuffed soapilla plate and she loved it. I ordered the blue corn enchilada plate and it was delicious. The surprise was when they brought us two large delicious soapilla. We ate a little, and got a bag to take them to go. They filled us up. Traditional Mexican food at its finest. Lots of traditional Pueblos in the area.

My wife might be called a Taoseno local and I've been coming with her to Taos for almost thirty years. if you were to put aside the fact that she and I actually have our principal residence in another state and that we stay here in Taos only about 30-45 days a year, the fact is that between the two of us, we know Taos. We've tried numerous Taos restaurants, and Rancho Plaza Grill is a keeper. Situated in what was once a private home on the plaza that ends in an historic church, and now only open for breakfast and lunch, the Ranchos Plaza Grill knows how to make delicious northern Ner Mexico dishes. The chile is to die for, and the next time we come here we'll pick up some of the chile powder they sell. We had two different Plaza specials and they were each delicious. The food and the staff put Michael's Kitchen to shame, and the interior of the restaurant is wonderful. I actually hesitated to write this review for fear that it might lead more out of state tourists to visit, but decided to take the risk, knowing that it has at least three large rooms and lots of outdoor seating, and the locals will keep it busy during off peak days. And did I mention the friendly staff, who appear to know many people who come in? (One of them goes to Taos High, and we discussed how the Taos Tigers are doing -- he knows, since he plays both defense and offense.)

Went to Ranchos Plaza Grill for early lunch. Sat outside in a nice patio. We both had 2 different entrees and they were both excellent. The green chili had great flavor. The service was very good the waiter was very attentive and personable. We will definitely return when we travel to Taos.

We have been to Taos numerous times. However some of our old favorites aren't here anymore. So we searched a number of ways. One was to see where diners drive ins and dives have been. This is one that Guy went to. Yes there is Mexican food everywhere in Taos. Something struck us to try this one. We were absolutely thrilled. I tried the stuffed sopaipilla with chicken and green chilli. My wife tried the blue corn enchiladas with beef and red. Both came with rice. And to top it off a Sopaipilla for a desert. Food was outstanding. Service was good, and the atmosphere of an old home next to a church was great. Dont miss this gem.

Wow! The food comes out looking just like the pictures and is amazing. Tried red and green sauce, but the red sauce was my favorite. The only thing that could make it better would be a marg or beer. While we were waiting for our table, we did chug a beer in the parking lot purchased at the nearby gas station. Lol
