On my way from Wienna to Budapest got hungry, "googled it", left the highway, I thought "I am lost", but found it,.., for a quick lunch, not more, than excited about the culinary gems of Budapest waiting for me , impatient planned to rush,.. Got...the lunch,.... my jaw dropped. Stayed for dinner, got a couple of glasses of Wine (Grapes grown, harvested, processed by the Owner itself). jaw dropped again, took time to find it,.. Stayed overnight (obviously) got one of the best breakfasts of my life,.., got confused "Do I really want to leave, go to Budapest", not sure about that, at all,.., but a plan is a plan. So I have left. But I will be back, I have no doubts about that, ...TOMORROW! Consider, please, I am from the industry, extremely critical and picky. used to good food of the Austrian Heurigers, great l seafood places of Chioggia/Veneto, high -end restaurants of Modena/Emilia Romagna (Italy's food pantry ), including Osteria Francescana. If you rent a car in Hungary, it's just a bit more than an hour and half from Budapest. Don't miss itMore

Located off the beaten track this restaurant boasts a beautiful (though narrow) drive up between archaic wine cellars. Friendly, helpful staff and fantastic food.

Szel Fiai is not exactly on the main street...you have to drive (not a lot) around Nyul and you get in a strange, nice, place. The restaurant, and the hotel, are in a big structure (currently under restoring...and it needs it) that made the stay...little bit more uncomfortable it should have been, but nothing dramatic. We had a very nice dinner, with nice wine, and a visit of the cellar where we were the only not-Hungarian...as result the owner (Tibor) had to translate for us, but in a "condensed" way...it was fun and entertaining. Wine was good, atmosphere was great, overall experience outstanding.More

We went there with family after visiting nearby monastery followed TripAdvisor review. Never had better food. Very good house wine, delicious garlic and mushrooms soup and finally paprikasz (traditional Hungarian dish). All served in elegant way with nice service. They have fantastic elderflower lemonade -...must try! 5 stars do everything!!!More

It’s not easy to find the place if you don’t use navigation but the feelings you had it will disappear when you try the kitchen creations. Service is brilliant also the food, sometimes I had a feeling it tastes better than a Michelin star restaurant,...especially the steaks. The rooms are okay, for couple of nights. Overall I loved to be there.More

We have showed up with no previous booking, and luckily they had a free table. Would recommend booking, as the place is busy, which we thought was a good sign. We were right, the service, food, wine, even non-alcoholic drinks were excellent. Really enjoyed lunch,...just as the welcome drink (palinka). The owner was sitting at the next table, and was checking if customers were happy, or if they could do anything to improve. So should you have any ideas - do not hesitate to tell. So even the approach was good. Would return any time.More

For very long time I wanted to visit this place as it is known as a good restaurant in the countryside in Hungary. Finally I manage to have a lunch here. I had an excellent Túrós csusza ( Cottage cheese pasta). There are many meat...dishes on the menu and I'm sure all very nice. I highly recommend this restaurant.More

After visiting the Abbey of Pannonhalma we looking for a nice restaurant with good food and wine. Some locals recommended the Szei Fiai Fogado. It is located a little outside of the small village Nyul at an old wine cellar alley. The welcome was warm...and the owner informed us about the restaurant and his specialities. He also is a wine maker with an own traditional wine cellar near the restaurant. The food was local on a high level. We have had some goose liver as starter, steaks from water buffalo, some dishes from the famous mangolica pork as well as some fresh water fish. All dishes tasted very good and the owner as well as the waiter worked hard to make us happy. In between the appetizer and the main course we have had the chance to visit the wine cellar and taste some local wines. I personally recommend his Zweigelt - a red wine. Value for money is great and I will come back and stay directly at Szwi Fiai Fogado.More
