Sugar Nymph Bistro is my favorite Covid 19 refuge. The large, shady garden is perfect for meeting friends in these troubled times. The green chili cheese Berger is justly popular as is the spectacular carrot cake. I love the home made soups and crisp salads....The special lemonades are refreshing in hot weather and when chilly, the coffee is hot and strong. From Santa Fe, The Sugar Nymph is delightful way to spend an afternoon in the country. Allow about four hoursMore

Sugar Nymphs is not easy to find. It is in Peñasco, NM, about a thirty minute drive from Taos along the High Road. All of their food is locally sourced. The eggs are from the chickens roaming around outside. Local green chili spices up many...of the dishes. The coffee is excellent. They make their own bread. Before brunch is served they bring out a basket of scones to rival any British bakery. Unfortunately, they don't have any extras to sell. If you're still hungry, the desserts are incredible. Our favorite is the carrot cake. We usually buy a piece to take home.More

Yes, it's that good! We both had green chile cheeseburgers and carrot cake! Everything is HOMEMADE, fresh and yummy. We sat outside for patio/dine-in service. Our terrific server was a very pleasant young man. It was so much fun to take this short road trip...to Penasco via the High Road, and be waited on at a restaurant. We went on to Taos to walk around and visit the few shops that were open. Such a nice get-away from Santa Fe. I feel so happy and normal today after being a recluse for sooo many weeks.More

During this crazy Corona virus shut down we needed a day away from it all and headed into the Cibola National Forest. At lunch we stopped at Sugar Nymphs in Penasco. Of course it was carry out only and the placed had lots of customers...waiting outside to place and then get orders. This is not fast food. It's totally home made and well worth waiting for. We have never had better hamburgers on home made buns with made-in-house catsup, homemade scones, and incredible jam for the scones. The food was so good we would almost make the 100 or so mile trip from home just to eat there!!!More

Every item on the menu is unique and inviting. Few menus have I ever seen that made me want to try everything. This place is on another level than most restaurants. Call ahead during Winter months.

We were out for a drive to see the country and wanted something to eat and after all, Sugar Nymph is rated #1 of 2 in Penasco but if it were anywhere else it would be rated#1 of an infinite number of places. Perfect waffles...(if the iron is working, get them) and real maple syrup, with scones and home made berry jam, biscuits, scramble eggs soft like they should be, potatoes that have that fine crunchy texture and if the spirit moves you, dessert for later. Really my idea of a perfect place - like friends who invite you to their house and cook up a storm. Great staff, lots of chatter and laughter, and a stove to keep you toasty. A lovely, amazing meal that we will go back for with family and friends. I am sure lunches and dinners are equally terrific.More

We stopped at this lovely place during our drive from Santa Fe to Taos. The place was small, cosy and had very friendly staff. We tried their burgers & soups and it was one of the best we have had. The portion was very generous....Be prepared to wait for the food as they are only done when orders are placed; but the wait is certainly worth it!More

Not the most efficient wait staff, but they were very friendly. Had a grilled cheese sandwich that was awesome. Was really busy and we waited at least 30 minutes, but the food was great. Place is small and there were several tables for 4 that...only had 2 people. Could have asked people if they minded sharing a table, we would have for sure and they could have filled the place more efficiently.More
