Ignore the unimpressive building as you will be glad you did. The counter clerk was friendly and polite but the star is the truly delicious food. I had the huevos rancheros with green sauce and it was cooked perfectly. The sauce is spicy which I...love but keep the heat in mind if you don't.More

This was the only restaurant I ate at during a whole week in Cruces. It was fabulous. The red chile pork burrito was to die for, and so were the chiles rellenos, made to order. So fresh, and the owners are so nice and serious...about their food. If you're in Cruces, you HAVE to eat at this little restaurant. It look a little sketchy, as it's in a converted fast food place, but have no fear! This could be the best NewMex cuisine you've ever eaten!More

Hidden gem! Don’t drive by and dismiss this place by the exterior! We shared a fajita plate. He served it to us already split on to 2 plates without us asking. I think we almost got 2 full meals for the price of one! $14...for ckn fajitas and an iced tea. Now my husband wants to come back and try the giant burgers! Thanks for a great last meal on our vacation to LC!More

We live to eat local restaurants when we travel but it’s rare that we will go to the same one twice. This one qualified though! Dinner twice on our recent trip to Las Cruces and both times were delicious.

This is a true local Mexican food joint. They repurposed a fast food building years ago. But don't let the loss fool you. Their food is excellent! You wouldn't want the look of the place to put you off. Inside Juan greeted us (manager/owner?) and...waited on us too. I had the enchilada combo plate which had a surprise side dish of red pork and potatoes... kind of like a stew (when was the last time you had anything with potatoes at a Mexican restaurant? ). Barbara had a huge ground beef burrito. The seasonings and flavors were awesome. I tried both the red and green Chile salsa. Red was my favorite but the green was tasty too. I'm glad I took my lansoprazole 🙂 It definitely brought the heat, but was different than any other salsa I've had (in a good way) and covered the enchiladas and i think was part of that great red pork and potatoes. We had a nice chat with Juan about how they were able to survive the pandemic with help from the locals. Bottom line, awesome food, local ambience and great prices... definitely do not skip this! 🙂More

Don't let the approach to this humble, repurposed fast food place scare you off. What awaits inside is legit. The tacos are excellent, the combo plate joyous, and everything very well priced for what you get. This is an easy and most worthwhile stop when...passing through Las Cruces.More

I was looking for a Chile Cheeseburger and ended up on the website for El Jacalito. Called in my order for a Green Chile Cheeseburger with fries and a side of Green Chile Pork. Picking up my order was as simple as using any drive-thru...speaker and window. The burger was juicy, well seasoned, and I'm guessing close to a 1/2 lb patty. The green chile made its presence known but not at all overpowering, instead dancing nicely with the griddled beef. The bun was lightly grilled and sturdy enough to not fall apart under the weight of the patty, chile, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickle. Fries were perfectly salty and appeared to be fresh cut, some with bits of peel. I would have preferred them to be a bit more crispy but that's not a complaint as I finished each and every one. The side of Green Chile Pork is a pretty good sized portion and, along with a small salad that I made, was enough for a late dinner. The pork was plentiful and tender, creating a velvety union with the green chile, that packed a nice punch of heat!More

Great tasting burgers - with lots of avocado! It’s an authentic looking building with a tiny unisex restroom in the back of the building. Great customer service. Reasonable prices. Thank you!

I went in on Saturday afternoon. I had one of their green chile burgers for lunch. Added bacon and cheese. It was a really great burger. I took an order of enchiladas home for dinner. They were okay. I'm not used to the rolled enchiladas...idea and the meat was different then what I'm used to. Won't get that again, but I'll try something different next time.More

Ordered a burrito though Lodel. Excellent burrito, Al Pastor. I've had their burgers before, really great. I keep meaning to try other menu items, but the burgers are so good.

We went to get Tex-Mex, but were persuaded by the reviews to get their burgers and their homemade fries. I had the Swiss/mushroom/avocado burger and it was wonderful. Husband had the bacon burger and loved it. Table service was fast; server was great. The comp...chips and salsa were very tasty *WARNING* - the red salsa is very hot.A bit off the beaten path on Missouri, but very close to where we live. We WILL go back!More
