This is a little way from the main Duong Dong road but that means no noise. We ate here three times in five days and found it very genuine, good prices and good food. We loved the squid with garlic and onions (not a heavy...garlic taste), the coconut curry and coconut crab and prawns with lemongrass and chilli. A nice meal with a couple of beers each would be around £15. Highly recommended.More

The food at Hieu’s tasted like.. nothing. Phô soup was just two prawns from yesterday, or the day before that, water, noodels and a few cut up springonions. No spices, flavours of any kind were present. Just boiled water. Curry... don’t even try it. Tasted...again like nothing, but made you sick in the stomach later 🤢 A huge disappointment.More

Absolutely brilliant little restaurant. Hidden away of the main strip offering a relaxing environment. The food is brilliant with all the charm of home cooking. We will be back before we go home!

Small family run restaurant with the best authentic food we've had so far on the island. Every dish was full of flavour and prices were very low. Definitely worth a visit. We will be back!!!!!

We ate here literally every meal for 3 days! - beautiful, simple and light vegetarian food - wonderful coffee served in the traditional way - relaxing garden away from the main street - clean clean clean - super nice family

Thank you for the very nice review, Serena. So many of the people dining at Hieu's are repeat customers. Some have been coming every year since the restaurant opened over 24 years ago. We are happy to add you to that list of "old friends".

It is baffling that this place ranked #1 in phu quoc. The pho was a bowl of water and some noodles. No flavour, no aroma, fatty tendons for meat. The fried noodles were cheap ramen noodles with out of date tofu. The spring rolls whilst...tasty were drenched in oil - may as well drink a bottle of oil with the meal. Fish with lemon grass and chilli was the only edible thing here. Number 1? Wow, if this is the best restaurant here, I dread to think what the others are like.More

Visited here yesterday based on trip Advisor recommendations After 4 days in Pho Quoc this restaurant really does not offer anything different apart from the lack of drinks it offers, basically wine and beer alcohol wise and fruit juices etc. Service was disjointed with food...not coming together and rice last which was not great when you want that to go with the rest of food.Food was nice but nothing that would make us take the walk along a very dark alley and this is really quite hard to find too.More

Don't be put off by the alleyway, the garden setting of the restaurant itself is really nice. A family run place with a great welcome, smiling and helpful service. Mr Hieu is a dignified gentleman who have excellent recommendations. We had 3 dishes (crab, squid,...pork, with chips) which were all excellent, 4 beers and a bottle of Dalat: total 510,000. Great to see some of our food being cooked on the simple wood-fired grill. English is limited (but we are in Vietnam after all!). Some of the menu translations are not perfect: maybe the filled squid should be grilled? The French is possibly more accurate in some cases (e.g. beignets de crabe). No complaints, all part of the fun, in our view. Recommended and would return.More

Not knowing where to have dinner so I browse through tripadvisor for some idea. Chance upon Hieu, decide to try it out. Went there after our day out at Safari since the shuttle bus has a drop off station at the area. Using google map...to find the direction, wasnt that hard to find juz need to walk thru a quiet n dark alley away from main road. The food is good, price reasonable. The man who serve us is very nice, hand me an insect repellant as I was scratchin myself from those mozzie bites. Food there is definitely worth the visit! Will be going again for my meal tonight :)More

My wife and I went there last night, having read reviews, and the fact our hotel was next door. The welcome was friendly, and the food we had was incredible. We had crab in coconut cream, King Prawns in chilli and lemongrass and grilled red...snapper. Every morsel was mouthwatering, and washed down with a bottle of local wine (not good by western standards, but drinkable and cheap), our bill including the wine and two beers came to around £19 Sterling. The road/path leading to it can be a pain in the neck, but well worth it, highly recommended, and we will hopefully make a return visit.More

We did our research on TripAdvisor before visiting Phu Quoc, and based on great reviews, Hieu's Family Restaurant was our first-night destination. As suggested, we arrived before the rush, and both dinner and the service was excellent! And, the value was great! After five days...in Saigon, we had become a bit bored with the same flavors, but Hieu's gave us the variety we had been missing--at very reasonable prices. We also made it a point to revisit on our last night, to try different dishes from their vast menu. It was again, outstanding! Hieu's Family Restaurant is a little hard to find, but it is up a tiny alley off the street (use Google Maps), and almost next door to Azura Resort, where we stayed. And an interesting tidbit: Hieu's is said to be the first restaurant in Phu Quoc. Enjoy!More
