Vergelegen is well known as a beautiful estate to visit and Camphors is the fantastic icing on the historic cake. Inventive food with wonderful flavours combine to paint pictures on the plate Unusual layout to the menu is carefully explained by the professional friendly staff. If there is only one restaurant you have time to visit in the Winelands make... More

I like a busy restaurant, and this was one of those. We still got good prompt service in comfortable modern surroundings. The food was good and so was the wine. Recommended!

Returned to Camphors for the first time in 4 years. The place remains utterly enchanting. The staff are all attentive and well-informed. The tasting menu with combined wines is excellent - leave yourself 4 hours for the whole experience. Only slight gripe is that I left an e-mail message and three telephone messages over the previous two weeks from the... More

Excellent food and perfect surroundings, certainly the best estate we visited for surroundings, no long distance views, just beautifully kept grounds, food very good indeed, service not the best but who cares when in such a setting

Worst experience of my life. We arrived on our anniversary with our two kids. Waiter sat us down and was very professional. I had the misfortune of overhearing the manager say to the waiter of how we ruined the experience for the other guests because we have kids with us. They were well behaved and did not "ruin" the experience... More

We had Sunday Lunch at Camphors. It was a bit windy but it was nice to be able to sit outside (I wasn't to impressed with how inside looked). We choses a 3 course meal which was very nice but not the same standard as Waterkloof. Service was a bit slow and the pause between courses sometimes too long. The... More

Absolute amazing experience at one of the countries most iconic wine farms. 4 amazing courses paired with the best wine in the country, literally the most amazing wine I've had. The chef creates a menu based around the farm and it's wines. Every dish has some sort of wine flavor or wine infusion in it, which makes this menu stand... More

The restaurant itself is beautifully located on the vergelegen estate. Booking in advance is advised as they are not open a lot throughout the week and do not have many tables. We chose to have the 4 course menu, which in itself was stunning. The dishes were decorated amazingly and dish for dish were unique combining flavours. The sommelier was... More

The Camphors at Vergelegen signature restaurant takes its name from the ancient giant camphor trees, planted in 1700, situated in front of the historic Homestead. The restaurant overlooks expansive lawns and beautiful trees complementing the overall dining experience and creating an ambiance never to be forgotten.

After only a year of operation, Camphors was awarded eighth place in the Top Ten restaurants in South Africa, in The Eat Out DStv Food Network Restaurant Awards 2014, as well as being the Regional Winner - Wine Tourism Restaurant - in the 2014 Best of Wine Tourism Awards, Great Wine Capitals.

Vergelegen produces classical wine varietals and the ever changing menu reflects a modern take on classical international and local food dishes, specifically designed to complement Vergelegen's award-winning wines. The Sommelier and his restaurant team guide diners through the menu and recommended wine selections to ensure a relaxed and memorable food and wine experience. This experience is tailored for both wine and food connoisseurs and everyday visitors alike who want to enjoy an unpressured dining experience. Regrettably, Camphors is not child-friendly.
