It just seems meant to be that the location of Roca on Dieu Donne is actually translated as Rock on God Given land. This becomes apparent on first observing the iconic views of the Franschoek Valley from the upper deck of the double volume Roca Restaurant. The visionary behind the Dieu Donne wine estate, Robert Maingard, has no doubt inculcated the dynamic restaurant proprietor, Craig Sherrell, to use the space in which the energy of sacred geometry has been introduced. A visit here can be lengthy as the beauty; the food, the wine and the service have an amazing effect. The upper indoor space, seating 120 covers has its special aura, complimented by the Seed and Flower of Life and the Cross

We loved the exceptional views and service offered by this stunning restaurant. Arrive before sunset to sip a cocktail on the awn outside and enjoy the timeless views of the valley and surrounding mountains. (do take mozzie spray though!) The meal was delicious and the...relaxed, luxurious ambiance of the restaurant upstairs made our evening very special.More

Being in the second stage of Covid, our expectations were not high. We were advised to arrive around 6pm to catch the Sunset. Good advice, my wife's 73rd and the table we had and shared with 3 other friends was certainly the best in the...house. The menu was limited , as we expected. But what was available was tops. Service, so attentive, wonderful choice of wine. Still must rate as one of the best restaurants in Franchhoek. Thank you guys, we all really enjoyed ourselves.More

Our second visit to this impressive restaurant with views across Franschoek. We arrived before sunset and although we weren’t able to sit outside we able to see the it settle across the mountains. The food was good but not outstanding as it had been on...our earlier visit. My wife had ostrich and I had a rib eye steak. We shared a dessert but it was very ordinary. The service was okay but not to highest standard. I think we were unlucky as some of these reviews are glowing and I will defiantly try it once more on our next visit to this beautiful country in the hope that we get a better overall experience.More

Two years ago i booked in to go to this top restaurant. Unfortunately i became ill, prior to the visit. I definitely lost out. Our table this time was booked for 7pm. A perfect vista. The sun was dropping behind the mountains. The sky was...red. Then we watched the little town below light up. As for the food and service. These matched the view. Excellent value, excellent service and an excellent night. My partner said that the curry was the best ever. My dad said the chicken just melted in his mouth. My steak was perfect!More

We had a lovely dinner at this restaurant with the sun setting behind the vineyard and mountains. The Caprese salad was just good. However, the Mozambique chicken was deliciously spiced and perfectly prepared. Would recommend that reservations be made for at least 30 minutes before...sunset.More

Over the years we have visited Roca many times and the issue they always have is that regardless of the time people book their meal, they turn up in time for sunset and of course the waiters have no idea in which order to serve...the tables. We booked for 7pm, arrived just before and sat at the table provided.Although we had booked months earlier for frontline we were at the back of the restaurant due to the early arrivals squatting at our table. We waited some 20 minutes without any service so decided to call it a day and leave. On passing the Maitre’d at the top of the stairs he expressed his concern and asked us to return with the promise that he would ensure that we would be looked after. We were shown to a much better table and he personally served us for the entire evening, which proved to be very enjoyable, and we cannot thank him enough. The message to management must be that he who books first gets frontline and that tables are served in order of their booking slot. If this is made clear to diners on arrival, customers will understand if they have to wait because they arrived early for the sunset.More

Very nice location with wonderful view. Food: starter main course and desert tasted ok, nothing special. We expected much more. Service below standard: Waiters give not a really motivated impression. asked twice for ice, never arrived.

A restaurant with a fabulous view over the valley. Great place to see the sun go down over the mountains. Very good food and wine but we found the service not as attentive as it could have been. Would still return though as we did...enjoy the food very muchMore
