We had lunch at Babel yesterday and it was perfect. The setting is gorgeous. The restaurant is in a farm barn, in two sections with external seating. We had tried to book but were told they were full, but were accepting some walk ins. We arrived and the restaurant manager was annoyed at having been told this as he said... More

Babel was such a wonderful experience. The hostess was super attentive and the fresh food was superb. I have never had a supper like that and it was magnificent. I loved how beautifully the staff spoke Afrikaans!

Set in the magnificent vineyards of Babylonstoren wine farm, Babel restaurant is a fine dining experience. A true farm to fork establishment complete with great wines to accompany the meal. Booking is a must and the wait for a table could be weeks or months! Don't just show up on the day you want to, you will most likely be... More

Many (most?) of the ingredients from Babel come from the local gardens. You can stroll about before dinner to see the food you're about to eat. It's hard to describe the effect of the freshness--in brief, everything tastes more like itself...and a little bit better. The dishes are inventive and yummy: surprising combinations that pay off each time. The service... More

Everything Babel offers is of the highest quality and farm-fresh. Their bread is homemade, butter is from the farm, salads are home-grown and come colour coded as green, yellow or red. so the ingredients used on the plate are that colour and it is difficult to decide what to choose - it all sounds so good. The main courses are... More

Lunch was the centerpiece of our day in the Winelands, and at Babel it is quite a meal in all ways. 'Beautiful to look at and delicious to eat. It's really worth the mission trying to get into Babel. Their bizarre booking policy means that you need to be pretty studious in order to get a reservation. Do they know that even top restaurants now use online booking platforms? The entire restaurant screams "fresh"! From the minimalist steel and concrete farm chic decor to the beautiful platings of the... More

Description
Housed in an old cow shed, Babel is a wonderful mix of Cape Dutch architecture with contemporary glass walls that makes for a simple yet edgy environment in which to try our tasty yet often unconventional combinations. We have a farm-to-fork philosophy, which means we like to serve food that is seasonal and that reflects our "pick, clean and serve" approach. Because our menu is guided by what is available in the garden, our food always reflects the season, and so in summer we may serve you a yellow salad of pineapple, gooseberries, granadillas, yellow tomatoes and apricots while in winter a slow-cooked leg of lamb in red wine is more likely. Dessert subscribes to four flavours, namely salty, bitter, sweet and sour. And while our meals are creative, we don't like to tamper unduly with our food. Our meals are always clear in structure, so that fruit and vegetables gathered daily from the garden is often served with its skin on. Helpings are generous and depending on the weather you can take your meal in the glass-enclosed restaurant or under the plane trees in the courtyard.
