Everything Babel offers is of the highest quality and farm-fresh. Their bread is homemade, butter is from the farm, salads are home-grown and come colour coded as green, yellow or red. so the ingredients used on the plate are that colour and it is difficult to decide what to choose - it all sounds so good. The main courses are... More

Lunch was the centerpiece of our day in the Winelands, and at Babel it is quite a meal in all ways. 'Beautiful to look at and delicious to eat. We shared a pumpkin fritter for a starter that had all sorts of other vegetables with it, and then for a main dish, I had an amazing mushroom risotto and my... More

It's really worth the mission trying to get into Babel. Their bizarre booking policy means that you need to be pretty studious in order to get a reservation. Do they know that even top restaurants now use online booking platforms? The entire restaurant screams "fresh"! From the minimalist steel and concrete farm chic decor to the beautiful platings of the... More

Tip: if you booking at this restaurant also book for the garden tour. It starts at 10am, is about an hour long, very informative and there is no charge. The restaurant is modern, framed with big windows giving a lightness to the place. The breakfast is a set menu- cold buffet and a warm dish. The buffet is limited compared... More

The setting and service at this restaurant are really great. It is also great that most of the food comes from the farm and its gardens. But the food provided by this expensive restaurant is really not value for money. It also took at least an hour to arrive after we ordered even though the restaurant was half full at... More

If you are visiting the Western Cape please make a reservation for this wonderful restaurant well in advance. You will be blown away by the colours, tastes and diversity of dishes. Our waiter Jonathan was extremely entertaining and could answer all our questions, he showed us whole samples of the unusual vegetables and fruits on our plates. We ordered the... More

Beautifully themed menu with vibrant fresh food. Warm friendly service teamed with a clean resultant layout made for a relaxing lunch. Food was fabulous. Our only mistake was not sharing the starter to leave room for pudding. My only gripe is the extremely noisy extractor fan which was a bit of an irritant.

Beautiful grounds of winery/B&B lead to an amazing restaurant housed in a (very refined) converted cowshed. The menu features the freshest vegetables and meats interestingly prepared and artfully presented.

Babel is a unique restaurant situated on a gorgeous working farm and vineyard. The decor is modern and beautiful, and the food is delicious and creative. All of the menu offerings are from the property, and the menu changes with the seasons. Everything we sampled was delicious and beautifully presented. The service was impeccable, and we were treated royally especially... More

Professional service from the moment you enter the estate. Our waiter, Jonathan , was friendly and very knowledgeable about the food and which wine to pair it with. Although the menu is limited (only 3 or 4 options per course) , the options are diverse in flavour and thus offers something for everyone (we highly recommend the beef fillet on... More

Description
Housed in an old cow shed, Babel is a wonderful mix of Cape Dutch architecture with contemporary glass walls that makes for a simple yet edgy environment in which to try our tasty yet often unconventional combinations. We have a farm-to-fork philosophy, which means we like to serve food that is seasonal and that reflects our "pick, clean and serve" approach. Because our menu is guided by what is available in the garden, our food always reflects the season, and so in summer we may serve you a yellow salad of pineapple, gooseberries, granadillas, yellow tomatoes and apricots while in winter a slow-cooked leg of lamb in red wine is more likely. Dessert subscribes to four flavours, namely salty, bitter, sweet and sour. And while our meals are creative, we don't like to tamper unduly with our food. Our meals are always clear in structure, so that fruit and vegetables gathered daily from the garden is often served with its skin on. Helpings are generous and depending on the weather you can take your meal in the glass-enclosed restaurant or under the plane trees in the courtyard.
