I went to Sweet Waters as a spur of the moment treat for myself and family this past Saturday, and definitely enjoyed myself. After a minor hiccup with our reservation, which was totally my fault, the staff found room for us and had us seated...within 10 minutes.
We were starved but it was already late, so we skipped appetizers and went straight to the "meat" of the email, pun intended. We did eat some bread, though, and the olive tapenade was excellent! When my mother expressed how much she liked it, our server brought out an extra bowl!
We also had some cocktails. I ordered an old fashioned that was described just as I prefer mine: with an expressed orange peel and no mention of muddled bar fruit. As you can imagine, I was disappointed to receive a bright pink glass of bourbon and muddled maraschino cherries. I didn't complain and they didn't comment on my unfinished drink. Moving on...
For our meals, we ordered the filet mignon, rack of lamb and cowboy steak for myself. We also shared an order of truffle fries. All of our meals were excellent, I thought. The risotto that came with the lamb was really good, none of us could stop eating the truffle fries, and my steak didn't stand a chance! It was tender and cooked just right.
I also enjoyed glass of the Daniel Cohn "Bellacosa" Cabernet Sauvignon, which was outstanding, if perhaps a little pricey.
I remember when Sweet Waters first opened, and, in fact, lived right around the corner when it did. This was my first visit since then and I am happy to see them thriving. This is a nice, authentic NYC-style steak house that is worth a visit. Get a steak or the lamb, get some sides, definitely get some wine... just skip the old fashioned.More
