We love ordering from here! SS only does take-out now, no more dine-in. If you call ahead, your order is ready within 10-20 minutes. They are fast and efficient and friendly. They also have a bunch of affordable lunch special options. Parking is available right in front.

What an awesome find! We were fans of Sono iin Millburn where we ate for 10+ years but when Sono closed we had to find a new sushi restaurant. 5 years later we finally succeeded in Sakae Sushi, but not before trying all the Maplewood, Millburn and South orange Japanese restaurants. Sakae Sushi is located on busy Morris Ave in Union NJ near Vauxhall Road. It's inside a small plaza of stores so plenty of parking. It's BYOB and doesn't have a fancy atmosphere, but who cares, the fish is so fresh and amazing! Great prices too! And customer service rocks! Will definitely return and we're so thrilled to have found an amazing place to have sushi!

Looking for a new sushi experience, found Sakae in Union. As seems common in the area, the restaurant resides behind an un-assuming storefront in a small stripmall so be alert as you approach, especially if coming from the opposite direction. Behind the facade, the dining area is of moderate size, with a small sushi bar, somewhat austere with simple tables and chairs but absolutely spotless. The menu is extensive including some Chinese items - check the excellent website - and you can order ahead, order for take-out or apparently even get delivery although not sure of the service area. Service was courteous and efficient however it's important to note that it was early for a weekday lunch so there were only about 6 other diners. Ordered Miso Soup, Seafood Gyoza, Maguro Sashimi, a Shrimp Tempura Roll, and an Autumn Roll ( Spicy tuna, topped with fresh mango, salmon and "chef's special sauce" ). The soup was flavorful with seaweed and diced tofu, the gyoza was tender, perfectly cooked with a good amount of filling, the maguro melted in your mouth, and the rolls were well prepared with just the right amount of rice. I make this last point because the portions were generous for the price which sometimes results in more rice than other ingredients to create the illusion of good value. Most of the hand rolls are under $5, while most of the special rolls are under $12. Lunch for two with tax came to about $32. Definitely will return for a consistency check and to sample more of the menu. In the meantime, recommend a visit by any other sushi foodies.

The rolls we had were quite flavorful and interesting. Tempura was too greasy. Atmosphere was sterile.

Having recently moved to the area, my wife and I didn't know what to expect from the place. It's a small little joint on Morris Ave with a tiny parking lot. We've tried a lot of Japanese places from cheap local joints to Nobu in Tribeca. I can tell you that this is the best sushi I've had in a long time (might even be the best I've had in Jersey). It's an absolute gem. Everything tasted fresh and the more popular rolls you see at every sushi place is above and beyond at this one.
