Only been here once, but it's quite an institution here in Newark. The kind of place people frequent for their whole life. I had a nice time there.

Classic Irish pub, great social atmosphere, with the usual selection of refreshments on hand. Great selection of beer and cider on draft. Extensive menu really a cut above typical pub fare.

I can't say enough good things about this place. It's a gem tucked away in an unassuming building, offering service that can't be beat. Mo is an awesome bartender and the owner, Sean, couldn't have been more hospitable. We had a great time and can't wait to visit again.

My first visit was in the 50's when my father took me on Saint Patrick's Day. Sean, is a great supporter of all things Irish. Like Newark itself, McGovern's has had ups and downs since then, but I'm happy to say it's on a roll these days.

Usually, the odds are against you in the food service business to last longer than 3 years. Well here is a bar and restaurant that has lasted 80 years, and deserves to have its legacy perpetuated as a Landmark. This Tavern is delightful, it has so much heritage that I could still smell the beer of yesteryear. The bar scene... More

Great bar with quality food. Has a dinning section behind the bar if you don't care to sit at the bar. I highly recommend the burgers.

Great place for people watching - a truly mixed crowd. And fun too - the bartenders are friendly, the service is fast, and the burgers are the best. A bar you can love.

I have not been there since 1981 but I feel the need to praise the place. From others reviews it has not changed. The bar tenders always make you feel like a regular, the kitchen on the side offers good honest food, nothing fancy but great tasting. The bar is capable of serving any kind of drink you want except... More

I was in Newark to see the Mike Tyson one man show, I arrived hours early to beat traffic and needed a place to hang out for a few hours. Most of downtown Newark seemed shady but then I found this diamond in the rough. Although the outside seemed dark and dreary the inside of the bar was incredible. Bright,... More
