Every time I'm in Newark I can't leave without a stop at Krug's. The bar is lively and always packed. The music is always great this time out I got to hear some classic Humble Pie. But let's not kid ourselves the reason for coming...is the burgers. Arguably the best in the world.More

After having worked in Newark since 1989, I finally made it to Krug's for what proved to be the best burger I have ever had, juicy, tender and too big for me to eat in one setting. And the pickles! Reminded me of the way...pickles used to taste on burgers in my youth.More

Most delicious cheeseburgers and their pickles ROCK! First time in far too many years that the burger was as big as the bun or bigger - absolutely delicious!!! We have had Krugs burgers at least 8-10 times already and only this week did we even...remember to take a menu back with us!More

Arrogant of me to say that, huh? So, it's true, I haven't tried EVERY cheeseburger in the world, but now that Poag Mahone's in Chicago seems to have closed, I don't have to think twice about where to find the best one in the country....I don't care for high end steakhouse burgers, they tend to be too lean, but I've tried zillions of pubs/bars/diners/counters, and the cheeseburgers Krug's turns out on that tiny surface are some kind of perfection ( I think they can only manage to make 4 or 6 at a time!) They're enormous (12 oz, I think,) they never get the degree of "doneness" wrong, ask for grilled onions. I'm not a pickle fan but the Kosher giants they bring to the table are a hit with other people I've been with. Looks like a dive from outside, but park in the back, use the back door for the dining room. Very clean, service is fast, (unless there are more that 6 burgers on order LOL.) And the all-important question for a NY area bar, Yankees or Mets? It's a Yankee bar :o) Onion rings are quite good, and if you have a six year old with you who eats nothing but grilled cheese sandwiches, they'll take care of him, too.More

We've stopped at Krug's Tavern, located in the '..Ironbound..' section of Newark) several times over the years. Krug's is a local neighborhood tavern...and makes absolutely no pretense at being anything else, providing good, basic '..bar food..' to it's customer's at modest / moderate prices. Their...claim-to-fame though are their burgers--thick, juicy, DELICIOUS !! and about the same size and weight as your average city manhole cover (an exaggeration...but not by much). The clientele here is a mix of neighborhood '..regulars..', local business people for lunch and visitors like ourselves...just come for what is quite likely the BEST BURGER east of the Mississippi (and probably beyond). There's nuthin' at all fancy, 'gourmet' of 'new age' about it. A Krug-burger is just no-frills GREAT !! Everything that a good burger should be....and more. If Jack's '..fee, fie, fo, fum..' giant ever had a taste for a really good burger; he'd simply climb down the beanstalk and head to Krugs's...and only one Krug-burger would be more than enough to satisfy even a giant's appetite.More

my wife and myself, my 19 yr old and his girl had a nice day at liberty park, Ellis Island , and statue of liberty tour. heard about krugs and decided to eat there after our long day. got there about 4 pm. this place...is definitely old school.and man this place is worth the stop. best burger. best wings, bread was very good. soup is on the money.pickels and hot peps were very good, pickles are pre sliced, but look whole at first. fresh and great tasting. I had 2 ice cold stella drafts. we had drive back to south jersey or I would have had a few more.you don't see little old school time capsules like this anymore. definitely try this placeMore

Krug's has the best cheeseburger in the state, probably the country. They also have amazing onion rings and steak fries.

It’s the best burger in NJ. No exaggeration. Not known for ambiance but the burger is delicious. Simple menu shrimp marinara great as well but people come from far way for a Krugs burger.

You can’t see through the heavily tinted windows, but its quite clean and friendly inside. They were doing good trade for a lazy Sunday afternoon, and quite a bit of it was for their “famous” burgers, which looked good, and weighed in at 12oz of...meat each — this is not a place for vegetarians to get a good meal, I’m afraid. But I was their to sample other food. The jalapeño poppers were my favorite kind — cheddar, and served hot. The house salad was uninspired, being just lettuce, tomato, and onion only, but there was a good amount of it, and it was crispy and fresh. A side of pickles was really nice too — crunchy dill pickle, and spicy pickled pepper. I wend for the pastrami on rye for my main, which was nice meat, but without any Russian dressing, the whole sandwich seemed rather dry, but the meat was good and tasty, and plenty of it.More
