I've never gone to the restaurant but have order for delivery about 10xs. We usually order for 3 to 4 people. The food has always arrived hot, fresh and delicious.

We came here on a Saturday night and it was packed. We started with the arancini. They were delicious. As entrees both the veal saltimbocca and franchese were excellent. The chicken savoya was ok but could’ve been better. The veal topped with vodka sauce was...also excellent.More

Went to Luigi's for the first time yesterday. It is a quaint, old time Italian restaurant. Had a salad which was good. The Fried Calamari were excellent. Light coating and cooked perfectly. My friend had spaghetti with olive oil and garlic. He was it was...very good. I had the Gnocchi alla Luigi. The taste was very good. Plenty of Prosciutto but there was WAY too much of the pink sauce. The gnocchi were completely swimming in the sauce. Some of the gnocchi were a bit on the mushy side. Finished with a double espresso and cannoli which were very good. I would go back but would try a different dish..More

This is a great small family Italian restaurant that takes reservations. We are always looking for the non-conventional and off the grid restaurants that tells a story. This one does it. You can tell by some of the photographs that this was just one of...those places. They have a secure parking lot across the street- press the button and they let you in; also there are lots of places on the street. Luigi’s is located right on the boarder of Newark on Bloomfield Ave. It is a place where you would expect the Sopranos to walk in. Every dish is nicely prepared in the typical Italian flare. Last night on the specials was a huge double cut veal chop over broccoli rabe- Looking around at every item proved that they variety was good and the servings and presentation plentiful. Be sure to have the Clams Casino, stuffed artichoke and split a Caesar salad. One of the best I have had. Prices are medium to high and well deserved for the quality and size of the entrée. This restaurant is a BYOB, and this makes it a high four stars for me in my book. I will return.More

Taking our son to the Newark Airport and had some time to kill. We were in that time between Lunch and Dinner, 3 to 4 pm and some in our small group were thinking dinner, some lunch. The nice people at Luigi's said no problem....We were given both lunch and dinner menus and everyone ordered. All dishes were great, some how we all had chicken breast with different sauce, each one fresh, bright and very good. My chicken parm was one of the best I've ever had, we shared an antipasto salad and an artichoke, both very good. Last we shared two desserts a Tiramisu and chocolate mousse very large servings more than enough for four. The only negative was Luigi's is BYOB and we would have liked a glass of red, but we'll know better next time.More

First of all, because this means alot to people- the staff here is great and very attentive!!! The food is absolutely wonderful and honestly-I have been to many, many restaurants and this IS authentic Italian food!! And so is the ambiance and atmosphere!!! When I...was here for my birthday dinner(my first time here)- we walked in and my inner feelings were like a mafia movie about food only..lol. That's what the atmosphere was like and the aroma of the food is non assaulting to the senses unless its a crime to love the smell of real real real Italian food. My brother and my sister in law walked in, and we inhaled the aroma of bread and garlic, good oil and various Italian flavors and scents. A Wonderful Feeling!!! We had reservations(I suggest getting reservations)and we were a little early and the girl seated us after just a few minutes. We got a table in the corner under nice grape vines and a pseudo trellis and it felt great to be at this table!! We could see everything and enjoy our b.y.o.b while we checked out the menu. My brothers girlfriend and I got stuffed artichoke as an appetizer-it was so tasty!!! Plenty for both of us. We liked it alot! My brother got fried calamari and that was done perfectly as well...not like chewing rubber bands, like other places I've ordered this appetizer at. The dipping sauces were excellent also. Now the dinner....Outstanding!! I had flounder franchese which you can get with pasta or salad, I chose salad and the salad was amazing for a side salad with dinner! The dressing which was their "house dressing" was delicious! And the flounder was done perfectly and tasted so good and it was a very large portion. It was not drowning in franchese sauce, they give just the right amount. We all enjoyed our dinners! Bottom line is Luigi's is top of the line!! I loved this place and I am picky!! This is a go to restaurant for real deal Italian food! Enjoy...just don't forget to make reservations first. I highly advise this!More

This little mom-and-pop operation just blew away some of the more upscale Italian places I've been to in the New York City area. I was greeted by a rather bubbly redheaded waitress whose Name Escapes me but she really made my dining experience much more...jovial. They brought me some oven toasted bread. I don't know whether it was house-made or not, and it certainly wasn't a rustic Italian but, it was welcome to a hungry table and certainly tasty. I ordered the clams wishing was the first time in my experience that I didn't receive them burnt. They came with a light tomatoey paprika like broth it added just the right amount of salt for a seafood item. The fettuccine alfredo was made from dried pasta which was okay because it was rather good. The only issue I had was that the cook had not fully Incorporated the sauce with the pasta leaving some strands improperly coded in a bit lumpy on the cheese. Still, like I said very tasty. The real shining Beacon was the chicken parmigiana. Quite possibly one of the best I've ever had. Very simple pounded chicken cutlets, dredged and breadcrumbs and fried up. Not overly spiced, not overly salted, just right. This was slathered in a most wonderful marinara again, well-balanced and it's seasoning. Just the right amount, not too much, not too little combination of mozzarella and parmesan cheese with melted lovingly across the top. I didn't want to stop eating but knew I had to. The wonderful young waitress wrapped off all my leftovers for me and cheerfully kept me company while I waited for my Uber driver. Without A Doubt, one of the better Italian experiences I've had in the greater New York area. Albeit, yes, in NewarkMore

We were there mid-afternoon. Only two other people in the restaurant and three servers. We were seated immediately and given menus but were never told about the specials. The waitress took our orders and then all three waitresses spent their time talking to each other...and ignored us. The food was excellent - real home-style Italian. But the service, with 3 waitresses in an empty restaurant, was non-existent.More

Took my family 10 of us - to this small restaurant. It was like eating at home only the best food you could imagine. The staff treated us like royalty. I could not have asked for a better place to have family reunion. Top notch.

50+ years ago I lived in Newark near this restaurant. This was my first trip back to the area and it was worth it. I had flounder franchise which melted in my mouth. Hubby had veal franchise which was so tender he didn’t need a...knife. Another had tripe, an Italian dish that our parents made. He loved it. Lovely Christmas decorations. A bit pricey.More

Our family went here for dinner, and found the atmosphere very good, but the food was not above average. The tomato sauce on my spaghetti could have been out of a jar. For 4 people, our bill was $200.00.

Our party of five discovered Luigi’s by chance and found this traditional Italian restaurant a pleasant surprise. It is in the Forest Hill section of Newark and long a mainstay in the neighborhood. We were the first to arrive for lunch in the small storefront...restaurant of a dozen tables. When we left, every table was full. It has a full traditional menu which we started with stuffed mushrooms and antipasto. The mortadella and salami were nicely garnished with olives, cheese and tomatoes. The bread was fresh and warm. Our entrees consisted of large portions. The Veal Luigi, Chicken Napolitano, Chicken Sorrentino and Arugula Salad were served with an abundance of side salads and pasta. The cuisine was a nice oasis in the urban landscape. Nevertheless, from a constructive culinary critique, the kitchen can always improve. Some dishes had large portions of hot peppers and tomatoes, but adding some cooked mushrooms and onions would have added more color and texture to the entrees. The Chicken Napolitano could have had a seared glaze of panko instead of sprinkled bread crumbs that lacked consistency. The black olives in the antipasto could have more ripe texture instead of looking like shriveled prunes. It is BYOB, but we ordered soft drinks, ice tea and hot tea. We found that the milk served with the tea could have been cooler than room temperature and wish that the refills would have been complimentary instead of charged for each serving. Service was attentive and friendly but uneven on certain orders. Despite these minor items, we found Luigi’s to offer great value and would return to try other menu items.More

Nice spot on the border of Bloomfield and Newark. There are a good choice of appetizers. The fried calamari and stuffed artichokes were delicious. My husband's entree of veal saltimbocca was tender and flavorful. I had the cavatelli with broccoli and chicken. The taste was...pleasing but the chicken was hard and overcooked. This is a BYOB restaurant.More
