Had lunch here today, and I was not disappointed! Immediately greeted by waitstaff and the owner, and promptly seated. Had their BLT on a roll, which was stuffed with lots of bacon, and evenly layered with tomato and lettuce. Due to its size, it was a bit messy, but who's complaining when you have a huge, delicious sandwich in front... More

I was sitting next to an older Jewish gentleman with a twinkle in his eye. I heard him say "I created the entire universe in 7 days but still can't make anything this good!" I agree. Hobby's makes the best deli sandwiches you can put in your face. I ordered the corned beef and pastrami on rye (number 5). Of... More

Hobbys Pastrami sandwiches are the best! You get a lot of meat for your money and the staff is always pleasant. Next time you have a taste for a good Pastrami/Corned Beef sandwich stop by Hobbys.

The food was great but I also really liked the way the staff was happy to have you there. There's a seating area in the back-- definitely no frills, just seats and tables, almost like a cafeteria. They aren't kidding when they say 'overstuffed sandwiches'. I could have probably made 4 sandwiches out it (but it was too delicious to... More

Some coworkers, giving me a tour of the Newark food scene, took me to Hobby's. They were going on and on about the Pastrami, the corned beef, etc.. Neither are my thing, so I went on another recommendation and got their Mac and Cheese w/ a side salad. It was outrageously good! During our lunch, I couldn't help but notice... More

Hobby's has been there forever. The sandwich is good just. too extremely expensive for a sandwich. The establishment was nice & clean. Just too expensive for downtown Newark. Like $10 for a pastrami sandwich.

Hobbys is everything that you want a kosher style deli to be- from the pickles to the family who owns it. Suspend a few things that you would expect in a fancy restaurant and just enjoy the ride. I can't say that my burger has ever been cooked the way that I ordered it- somehow that never bothered me. But... More

Their sandwiches are delicious. I love corned beef and pastrami, but not everyone prepares them correctly, Hobby's does! I also really enjoy their homemade onion rings and they have the most delicious garlic and herb blessed pasta salad--it looks plain, but it tastes out of this world! Check them out and support local deli's...its not that many good ones left... More

We got there early for lunch and went back about 50 years as we walked in - the place is amazingly unchanged by the times. Incredible sandwiches and house-made pickles that are even more incredible. It's a sad thing for us that there's nothing like it anywhere near where we live...

don't over-order, and prepare to take the leftovers. this is an old-style deli with all the deliciousness you imagine.
