A step back in time

At one time in the not too distant past the Jewish community were the merchants of Newark. Hobby retains a hold on restaurant nostalgia. If you want a really good, really large sandwich head to Hobbys. Remember this is a kosher place so don't plan on pork. Hobbys also does a great job with party... read more

Ate here with friends after hearing about Hobby's for years. I saw them in the Deli Documentary recently and went for lunch. Classic Deli food and good sized sandwiches. All three of us were happy with our meals but excited. Good times and should be experienced at least once

I am born and raised in newark, and this is my first time ever eating there. I always eat at Bragmans on Hawthorne Ave., but baby!!! never again!! I am addicted and will always eat at Hobbies. I have my mom and my daughter addicted as well. The meat just melted in my mouth, and was very tender. I didnt... More

This place is amazing! Came in from Baltimore with my boyfriend for UFC Fights and saw a billboard for this place and wanted to try it! From the start it was great! I had the corned beef on rye and it was AMAZING- Jewish style and it melts in your mouth! I also had the Matzoh ball soup which was... More

This is not a cheap lunch by no means. However the sandwiches are fantastic. Go with the Corned Beef, Brisket or Tounge. Old School taste.

Stopped in here for a to go lunch. The food albeit a little pricey, was some of the best corned beef and pastrami I have had. The bread was very fresh. I also ordered mushroom barley soup which was quite flavorful and hearty. I would definitely come back again and try some other items on the menu. Parking can be... More

We were headed to another popular restaurant in Newark for a brunch-time meal on a Saturday. Long wait, so we left and looked for a place nearby. Really glad to have stumbled on Hobby's. It's a very authentic reminder of the best Kosher-style delis of my youth. Food was very good. Management, staff all wonderful folks. Will return. Especially good... More

If Aliens come to earth in a 100 years and they go to Hobby's we will be safe and they will be satisfied. Oy, is this good stuff. The full Jewish deli experience includes great food (corned beef and pastrami is to die for), portions that are always just a bit larger than they should be, but not outrageous. No... More

Hobby’s is a Newark, NJ deli that has served the city since 1962. It offers old world delicatessen specialties such as thickly sliced pastrami, salami and corned beef sandwiches. Pickles grace each table. Breakfast is served at any time. For local character, there is much to savor at Hobby’s.

Excellent meal for a moderate price. Superb brisket. And try the Reuben Pierogies. Might sound odd but they're delicious.
