Great food and wine. Francis and Mark have been doing it for 30 years and it shows ever time we go there. You don’t find this kind of dedication and experience often.

The steak was mediocre, but priced as if not. But do New Brunswick a favor and go somewhere else (like Clydz!). The thing is, they add 3% to every bill that is paid by card. Which, at these prices, is everyone. So it's basically a...sneaky way for the owner to raise prices by 3% but not let it be noticed on the menu unless you're a fine-print person. It's like those resort fees that scummy hotels use to upcharge: It's not the price you see when you buy it, but it's mandatory. When I questioned it, the manager claimed that they needed to do this, and that many restaurants in New Brunswick do. Well, no: at least none that I went to did, and I went to several nice ones. So, do New Brunswick - and the world - a favor and give this place a miss. it's not worth the price in any case, but the whole aftermarket-upcharge thing needs to be discouraged.More

I went to SLS several years ago, and was so impressed. But it seems to have gone downhill like it was its job. The steak was tepid ... I'm guessing either the server forgot to pick it up, or else she was pushing something that...some other customer didn't want from earlier. Unfriendly staff, too. And expensive. By which I mean that they charge like good steakhouses, which this is not. Wow, even the bread costs. I guess the pour from the bar was pretty good, I'll give that. Go to Clydz instead. Don't go here.More

Went here for dinner with a friend. We wanted to treat ourselves to a nice dinner. I tried the wagyu beef on the salt brick and it was so tender and delicious with the garlic butter. The charred asparagus was tender crisp and perfect. The...whipped potatoes were like air, so creamy. The marscapone cheesecake was so rich and delicious. Do not miss this restaurant! The staff was friendly and fabulous! And they validate your parking if you park in the Morris street garage! Can’t wait to go back to try their filet mignon!More

Went to the Paul Hobbs wine event last night 1/25/2022 and just have to rave about how fabulous it was. The 5 course tasting menu was not only delicious but perfectly paired to the amazing, and wide ranging selection of Paul Hobbs wines. The Wagu...Steak on the salt block was the star of the lineup! Although the Blondie with butternut squash ice cream (yes!) was probably my favorite! It was a very interactive and lively time thanks to the warm hosts and Paul Hobbs himself. It was his 30th year wooing us with his wines. Cheers to many many more!More

The most flavorable chicken sandwich I’ve ever had. Seriously, this restaurant is incredible. Great service, wonderful food, huge wine list. Owners on site. If you’re in central New Jersey , this is a must visit.

I took my bf here for is birthday as we are both huge steak fans. We decided to skip the apps since we got the biggest steak on the menu, the dry aged tomahawk. The only disagreement my bf and I have is he likes...a rare steak and I’m more of a medium rare girl. So here they have Himalayan salt block that they bring to the table super hot so we got the steak rare which was cool red and I was able to heat it up to the temp I like and it made it super delicious and salty. We got fois gras butter and truffle fries, all delicious! We got a few specialty cocktails, all of which were good, but I did feel the service from the bar was a bit slow. All the other service at the table was lovely, both owners came over to talk to us and were mingling with all the tables in the dining room and it was obvious there were many regulars. The steak it’s self was different from what I am used to but not in a bad way. It was light and flavorful and I could eat a lot of it with out it feeling very heavy in my stomach. I don’t know if it beats Peter lugers for my favorite but I think they are both good in their own way. Oh - and definitely get the garlic bread, that was super amazing!More

Went to resteraunt as a couples double date for my boyfriends birthday. When we first got there things seemed fine and the ambiance was nice. The table enjoyed beverages. My boyfriend and I ordered a steak to share. When the steak came out, it came...out a little too quickly. We had ordered a rare steak but when cutting into the steak it was raw and super cold as if they took out of the fridge and placed in the oven for only a few minutes. When mentioning the steak, they seemed annoyed but sent back to get us a hot one. What I am surprised about is they never gave us a new steak, they made us weight 30 minutes for the same steak just heated up in the oven some more. That steak was cut up and everything and freezing and they just threw it back in the oven and reserved. Also, when asking about the steak and when it would be ready after waiting some time, they got nasty. No one had approached our table to notify us what was happening or let us know it was being worked on after the situation. No apology either until the very end. I did not like how they handled things and will be expressing my opinion to any of my family and friends. I go to resteraunts and have rare steak often when going to steak places. Never once did I have a rare steak come out super cold. Don't recommend.More

My dining experience was absolutely perfect! I loved the cozy ambiance, attentive staff and creative menu offerings. We started with some top notch cocktails and house made burrata cheese, then enjoyed a pear gorgonzola salad with garlic bread. Our perfectly cooked lamb chop and filet...mignon paired well with a bottle of pinot noir. Everything was nicely presented, cooked to perfection and well paced. The meal concluded with a hazelnut bread pudding, candy cane gelato and cappuccinos. I couldn't have asked for a better dining experience! Thank you for a wonderful Valentine's dinner. We will certainly be back!More

Last night I had one of the best meals of my life from Stage Left/Catherine Lombardis and then I repeated the experience tonight. Having eaten in some of the world's finest restaurants from NYC to Milan and Florence and Tokyo, I am stunned at the...quality provided as takeout here in New Brunswick. The wild boar bolognese with tagliatelle, I have enjoyed previously but this time it was extraordinary. And I will add that my wife found the lamb osso bucco delicious, as well. Some people remark about the prices, but considering the superb quality and that one "serving" provided a substantial dinner for two nights (my wife actually had enough left for lunch after two dinners) their food is remarkably well priced.More

Can't talk about prices because I was at a dinner party and not responsible for payment. The hors de ouevres that were passed were delicious. The filet mignon was excellent--i don't know what it was charred with but the crust was fabulous, as was the...spicy sauce it was served with. It was cooked a bit over the ordered medium, but still very good. The sides served family style were overcooked. Dessert was also fabulous.More

We enjoyed good food at hefty prices on everything . The service was sub par as I waited for a cocktail , and had to call attention to our needs more than once . We told the staff we had a play to attend in...two hours . It made no difference as when it finally was time to ask for coffee there was no time left . We had to leave . I feel that when dinner for 4 costs $360 with a $39 bottle of wine you should be getting extemely attentive service. Sorry , not the case . We shall not return .More

My wife and I had a nice dinner last night at Stage Left, right before a show at the State Theater. The location is great. The service was impecible. The bread, great. The "Not Your Mom's Grilled Cheese" was extraordinary. The sunchoke soup was good...and unique. And the chocolate and peanut butter pie was incredible. But the measure of any steak house is the steak. My wife got the flat iron steak... I got a strip steak, and we shared. The steak was good. But, frankly, I've had better ... and I have made better myself. It was what I would consider a good $100 meal ... unfortunately, the bill came to $200 plus tip. It was very good, but not good enough to justify the high prices.More

The atmosphere, staff and steak were great. The cocktail sauce for the shrimp cocktail left little to the imagination. Guess we are used to having horseradish in our cocktail sauce and this literally tasted like ketchup. The gratin potatoes were so salty and the bottoms...were completely black. Otherwise very nice.More

The restaurant is close to a hotel we like to stay in when visiting the area. The atmosphere of the restaurant, with both inside and outside dining areas, is quite nice. The service is very good - the staff is attentive and helpful. We split...a tasty Caesar salad and decided to also share a steak. HOWEVER...the steak (we ordered a strip steak for two...was not very good at all. The outer coating was black and charcoal consistency. The steak was so chewy that we could chew it for flavor but had to spit out the meat itself. Whipped potatoes were exceptionally good and, in hindsight, we perhaps should have simply ordered potatoes!!! DEFINITELY NOT worth the money we paid for our meal.More
