I was excited to try their artichoke flour pizza but was a bit disappointed. 22.00 for a gluten free personal size pizza and I know I ordered prosciutto on it but it was really salty and tasted a bit strange. I didn't complain because I...hadn't eaten all day and was so hungry. My husband ordered the orecchiette pasta dish and said mine was so much better. So we paid a lot of money for mediocre food. Our server was attentive so that was nice.More

Horrible experience, terrible management, and the owner has no regard for true customer service or care. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! There are PLENTY of amazing restaurants in Montclair and this is absolutely NOT one of them.

I went to Salute on Saturday evening with a group of friends. To ensure a smooth evening, one of our group members contacted the restaurant in advance and pre-selected an assortment of appetizers for us. In spite of that, when members of our group arrived,...the hostess couldn't find our reservation and had to be convinced to seat us. Once seated, the food was VERY good! The service was a bit haphazard and not very attentive, but we didn't pay much attention to that because we were having so much fun together. The problem came when it was time to pay and leave. After waiting over 30 minutes for the bill to be given, it was completely wrong. Somehow, the management took our request for pre-selected appetizers as a commitment to do a prefixe three-course dinner and they charged us for that AND the entrees we ordered. NOTE: we never actually received the entrees or desserts that were supposed to come with the three-course meal. When we questioned them about the bill, instead of getting the manager or owner to come straighten things out, the service staff THREATENED TO CALL THE POLICE! We were told the owner was not available, but later discovered that he was sitting in the same room but would not engage! Thankfully, there was a police officer in our group who became our spokesperson from that point on. We actually had to find the original email sent by the person who organized our outing to convince them that we had never requested a three-course meal. Even then, we sat for another very tense 30 minutes waiting for them to produce the corrected bill. Then when we finally were able to pay our bill, they charged us $10 for each credit card charge. Although Salute had the best pasta fagiole soup I have ever had, I will never give this restaurant another dime of my money. There are too many good restaurants in Montclair and all around to deal with the kind of grief we went through that night.More

Long read, but worth it... Our church group decided to meet here as a culminating activity for our Bible study group. When I tell you this was a test of all I've learned about the love of the Lord please believe it. Let's start with...the hostess. She was not welcoming at all on definitely acted like we didn't belong there. She questioned us multiple times about our reservation as if there were that many parties of 12 at the same time. She didn't walk us to our table. Instead she POINTED towards the back tables that were set up and we walked ourselves to the table. This was just an absolute omen for what was to come. We had appetizers family style and they were definitely mediocre at best. I didn't have high expectations because this was a restaurant with 3.5 rating already and I think the apps were a perfect 3/5 so it was right on target. I saw a review just now of someone saying their steak was doused in balsamic vinaigrette, I definitely can cosign that. Even for a medium steak it was was too chewy and if it wasn't for the dousing, it wouldn't have any taste at all. Huge disappointment. Things just got worse.... We had a pre-fixe menu that was completely misrepresented when our reservation was made. So when we received the bill we had a huge problem with the total. The issue wasn't something that could not be resolved but it's how we had to arrive at the resolution that made us the most uncomfortable. I understand the manager was simply doing what he told, and we were a church group so we were absolutely mindful of our tone and approach. We asked for the owner's contact information because he lied and said the owner wasn't there. HE WAS SITTING AT THE TABKE NEXT TO US! Thank you Google! Too bad we didn't know until after we paid. Long story short, they misrepresented the menu, intentional or not, and we had to work it out. We met at a place that didn't necessarily make us happy as customers, but was better than where we started. The unfortunate part was when he threatened to call the police to resolve the bill, a weak negotiation technique that he saw didn't work. The next sad part was the way waitress (who I am sure is the one referenced in other reviews talking about the terrible disposition of a waitress) decided to add her two cents to a situation she knew nothing about. Not like she was even our waitress! She pulled down her mask, so we would hear her loud and clear, and said in her most judgmental tone "you should have known better when you come here". I can 100% guarantee you she would not have said that if I wasn't a Black man. I don't say that about people often, but IF YOU KNOW, you know. She didn't stop at that, she the started making childish gestures towards us, you know, the customers, without being told to stop by anyone. Deplorable behavior. You never know who you are treating a certain way so treat everyone with respect. I say that because our church group members include people with 100k followers on social media and we love to share our experiences with the world. We will let the Lord sort this one out but a review sharing our experience at this place is a must. Long story short....mediocre food, unconscionable prices, horrible customer service, and an unpublished credit card usage charge (who does that aside from gas stations??) is all you need to know about this restaurant. I can't help but wonder if this is what contributed to the demise of Gerry Cerrigone's other restaurants in the area. My advice is to stay away. Plenty delicious restaurant's serving the same cuisine in the area. Really makes us miss Nauna's and Marzullo's in Montclair.More

We came here with a group of friends for lunch on a Friday afternoon. There was only one other table besides ours so it was a nice quiet lunch. The restaurant is located just liaise the busiest part of Montclair so street parking isn’t hard....They start you off with some focaccia and oil which was nice. We ordered the burrata salad and the eggplant appetizer both of which were absolutely delicious! For the main course we had a Margherita pizza, scamorza pizza (not pictured), burrata ravioli, mushroom tagliatelle. All the entrees were delicious in their own rights! The chocolate dessert was a great way to round out the meal. We’ll be back when we want a good pasta/pizza meal. FYI- it’s there’s a surcharge for paying with credit. There’s an ATM located inside if neededMore

WARNING! DO NOT EAT AT “SALUTE” IN MONTCLAIR, NJ UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!! To begin with... The tables are spaced too close together and the owner, who was seating people refuses to wear a face mask. The owner does NOT wear a face mask. There is...a flagrant disregard for Covid precautions that starts with the owner in the front of house where anyone can see it. One can only shudder at the health code violations that are likely taking place in the back of house where customers can’t see it. Food: The tuna tartare appetizer was fishy smelling and tasting and served at room temp instead of chilled. It is likely pre batched instead of made to order using non sushi grade tuna and left out unrefrigerated for the entire dinner shift. It was awful. The salmon entree was over cooked, lukewarm, floating in a pool of vegetable oil, and tasteless. I requested a lemon wedge to try and zest it up with. Very, very disappointing. Atmosphere: The four top table behind us was very drunk, boisterous, and unruly. It is the responsibility of any good establishment to ck on the comfort of its guests. The owner and staff were very much aware of what was going on and did nothing about it. I looked for the owner to discuss this and our server, Adam, said he’d left for the evening. Adam, lied. A few minutes later I saw him and the owner in deep conversation. I thought perhaps they were discussing a way to remedy and correct our really terrible dining experience. Wrong! Not even an apology. Adam dropped the ck and was gone. We pd and left. And we’re never going to eat at Salute again. I suggest you never eat there either.More

Saturday evening early dinner for 3 at 530pm. Valet parking ($7) does make it easy in and out. Our server was very good, the restaurant does team service with all the courses delivered by runners from the kitchen and wait staff stays on the floor....The grilled octopus is plentiful and well prepared. Although the ceasur was a little heavy on the dressing, our entrees (pasta, risotto, chicken) were all excellent. The food is solid. Just note the dining room gets very loud as the restaurant fills up.More

We ate here on a Saturday night with a reservation. We arrived 10 minutes prior to our reservation time and were seated immediately. The restaurant was a little loud and the space was tight. Our waitress was friendly, the service was excellent, and the food...was good. The Marluzzo was a dish on the special menu for the day.More

This is not a comfortable restaurant from there not being any parking to the crowded tables, and the noise level is ridiculous. You literally have to shout to the waitress and read lips. The food is just Ok. This is not fine dining. There are...far better restaurants with parkingMore

Selected restaurant in part due to proximity of Wellmont Theatre, it's a byob. Made a reservation in advance but ran 20 minutes late due to traffic. Called restaurant to advise and they were very accomodating and held our table. They have inside and outside dining....The place is very well run, excellent service and good menu and a delicious meal. We had their special and it was delicious. The bread and oil served at the table is delicious (maybe too good) had to ask for seconds and thirds. Dessert menu looked good but we were tight on time for the show and had to pass. Overall, great experience though the place can be noisy and a bit warm., aMore

This is our go-to restaurant for Italian food, especially pasta. Interesting and delicious entrees, salads, and appetizers sometimes make choosing a pasta hard though. Very warm and welcoming staff and environment.

Unintentionally ended up here and had the best homemade ravioli. My friend ordered chicken penne vodka (not on the menu) when the food arrived we shared our dishes, both were very flavorful. We will be returning again soon.

We celebrated my sisters getting her masters in nursing and had dinner here for about 12 people. Besides the challenges of finding parking, it’s very accessible. The server was very sweet and attentive and the overall atmosphere is casual and comfortable. We had our 4...year old and it was way past her bedtime, so we quickly ordered a margarita pizza. It was perfect for her and for us. We also shared the aracini. The pasta fishers were very generous in size and flavorful. It’s BYOB which makes it more economical for large parties. Overall good good and great service for a crowd.More
