We have been there before and it was good but yesterday we had a marvelous dinner. From the appetizers to the coconut ice cream the food was wonderful. The appetizers were specials - crab cakes in a lobster bisk and the octopus were delicious. The steak was always great. You can't beat the meal we had yesterday.

We love this restaurant! It is one our favorite in Montclair. The ceviche is awesome. Also the fish fritters are great. My kids love the hotdog and French fries or the roast chicken.

All in all we had got time here and has a very decent meal. Service was good, steak was a solid 4, chicken - a bit on a dry side, but the other chicken dish: chicken thighs over corn was excellent. Bouillabaisse was unusual, in a creamy sauce. Salads were very good. Hit and miss a bit for my taste.... More

I'm happy that, overall, you had a great dining experience with us. Since we're a Peruvian style restaurant, many people in New Jersey are often unfamiliar with the way we prepare meals. I can, therefore, understand if some of your dishes seemed "unusual." That said, it's great that you thought the chicken thighs over corn and the salads were excellent.... More

Costanera is a small Peruvian restaurant on the main drag in Montclair. I went with a group, so I was able to try a variety of dishes. I began with Yuquitas a la Huancaina, which were like huge french fries, but made of yucca instead of potato. It was OK. However, my wife had the octopus salad appetizer, which was... More

I'm glad we could get you a taste of something different, and it's really wonderful to hear the meal was impressive to both you and your wife. However, I'm sorry the service wasn't as speedy as you would have liked to see, and I'll keep that in mind. I hope we'll get to see you back in for another bite... More

Greeted warmly, and seated promptly for our 930p reservation. Our server didn't come by, so we asked someone else for wine glasses who came and said the server would come to tell us about the specials. (Luckily our wine was twist off LOL, because it took about a month for the server to acknowledge us.) She finally arrived and simply... More

As you can imagine, it's pretty disappointing to hear the service was so frustrating. I can certainly see why this experience would be upsetting, and I'm glad you've brought it to my attention. I'll be sure to look into this as well as the issues with the food you mentioned, and I'm sorry it happened in the first place. This... More

Lomo saltado was good, the restaurant was empty but all the tables were reserved (I was told) The attention was good and the food was served on time and hot.

We called the restaurant for a reservation and the man who answered told us we could just come in. When we got there the same man told us we needed a reservation and he had availability at 8:00. Umm, it was 7:30 and the restaurant was empty and it was mid week. He had not a clue as to how... More

I completely understand why this was a frustrating situation for you. It seems to me like there was a miscommunication between you and our staff, and I apologize if this inconvenienced you. We do normally take reservations, but there shouldn't have been a problem seating you if there were multiple tables available. That said, it's hard for us to manage... More

I've gone back to eat here and will continue to go back. We enjoyed it the first time and went back the 2nd time with the kids. The kids enjoyed it and asked to go back. They liked their food. The appetizers and entrees were great, so was the dessert. I would recommend it. BYOB is a plus too!

This was a nice surprise, cozy intimate place, very nice and friendly staff. Food is fresh with a lot of attention to detail. A lot of the dishes are made with ingredients that were new to me or used in an unusual way. Very positive experience. The fish was exquisite and the meat amazing! Will come back.
